@remotaurog define hand made? made by hand? or the instant you use tools? machines? or if it is made by a semi automatic machines? or fabricated by automatic machinery?
or when it can be mass produced?
now when does the line between hand made and not hand made begin?
you do your own negative mold. Its yours hand made right?
you pore the liquid metal into the hand made mold. how does that result in none hand made object?
even further nothing is hand made, everything is taken somewhere right?
@pe3er by that i mean YOU canot do anything YOURS due to the fact your taking something that you have not made into your desire shape. still it isnt yours, It is an illusion.
Some narration would be helpful, or at least show more details of what you're doing. For example, are you dropping the piece into water every time you anneal it? And like some other comments, the liquid you put on the scraps before you melted them isn't at all clear.
Nice video, very creative. I am curious why you don't use an alcohol/boric acid firecoat. Not so much just for this project but in general. Any advantage to just using water? Thanks
This is very exciting---you had the silver turn molten in minutes, something I've unsuccessfully to do time after time. My aim is casting a few silver dollhouse items.
@yoopermary no he is using an anti matter nuclear discombobulater with a refracting flux capacitator set on 10 to the power 10 to the power of 100 - i hope that helped !
When I tried to this a couple weeks ago, I ended up with a blob of silver :( too much heat I guess, gonna try it again today.
I've gotta question.. Sometimes my silver gives off different colors (sometimes blue, green etc..) should I be worried? Or is that excess ?? that is burning off?
An after thought to my first comment. I am aware fine silver and sterling silver have different melting temps. As soon as I would've added sterling silver to the fine silver I would realize the mixture right away obviously. But, what would happen if I continued heating to melt the sterling silver with the fine silver, or would my entire piece be botched?
First of all, your tutorials are great thank you for sharing. I notice you were using various left overs or remnants of silver. I'm assuming those were fine silver, my question is.. If I were to use that same process but maybe accidently mix in sterling silver, what would result in that?
What a fantastic idea!!!! I have a lot of "left overs" ! LOL!!
Please, please, please, make a video with instructions on polishing to mirror finish!!! Please!!
I managed to make a ring band (it's a miracle I made it!!) using the soldering techniques described in your videos. However, being a complete ignorant, I used red tripoli for polishing and the ring turned to dark grey!! :-(
Hello, can you melt gold with that kind of torch ?
Thank you.

q: why not melt it then pore it into a negative mold? it would give a far better look.

@pe3er Good idea I'm sure but that would make it a bit boring! I love the organic design of this piece, completely unique.

@wonderwend1 true its unique, and we all have different taste. (i like demonic and more chaotic look)

so please define to me what Hand made means.
pe3er 1 week ago
@pe3er Its difficult to tell both apart,as long as you cant use the same mould again to mass produce,we want something that is unique and a once off.

I enjoyed the video, would you advise sticking to the one type of silver per ring, ie. sterling or fine?
Were you adding flux with the addition of extra silver?

what does the borax do? help its viscosity?
Digadogup 10 months ago
@Digadogup Borax is mainly used to prevent firescale. It acts as an insulator and prevents the metal from cooling too quickly

newb question here... will a propane torch be hot enough to melt sterling silver?
Decoy8 1 year ago
Why do you flux before you heat when there is no solder involved. Is it to reduce oxidisation? Thanks. More vids please !

The silver would still be usable but you would have to use a low melting point silver solder.
Thanks for the interest in the videos. I will be uploading some more very soon.

Red tripoli is fine.
It sounds like you have 'fire scale' on the surface of the ring. just search for firescale on Google to fing out what it is.
You will need to use enery paper to sand it away as it is a layer on the surface of the ring.
Once you have got rid of it completely, then repolish the ring using tripoli first then wash the ring, then use rouge on a seperate swansdown mop.
Nice idea about a video....watch this sapce
