I grew up watching Creature Double Feature (so I'd thought I'd seen it all) and this movie was on another channel at 1 am after Night Stalker, another scary show. Thank goodness I had a brother and didn't have to watch it alone. Everyone was talking about it at school.

The 70's produced some the most memorable films in history and "Phantasm" is one of them. When it came out I had never seen a film like it. It ranks right up there with "Halloween" "Motel Hell" and "Black Christmas" for sheer horror. Excellent flick.

I never heard of PHANTASM before--I get nightmares from horror films. I decided to look up the word 'phantasm' on Google and I read the Wikipedia page about the original film: 'someone drove an ice cream truck in the film'. I hear an ice cream truck in the back of my mind. I go to YouTube and watch the trailer and I am still hearing an ice cream truck jingle. The Phantasm trailer ends and I realize that AN ICE CREAM TRUCK IS NOW ROLLING DOWN MY STREET! I hate horror...creepy creepy creepy! :/

Oh dear the Tall Man is body snatching the neighborhood who works at the morge with the gate of hell in the keep. The "your having a bad dream ending" really sucked. But for teens this movie is scary even though it hardly makes sense just like Burnt Offerings where all kinds of scary stuff keeps happening and no real plot

This was by no means the best horror flick at that time -1980 -but it WAS the best drive in movie of all time.

A Phantasm/Warriors double billing, a twelve pack of the cheapest skunk beer a high school senior can afford; a carload of friends; girls walking around; fights outside the refreshment building....hotter than hell outside.

Phantasm may not be for everyone (then again,what horror movie is?) but it's different than anything else that has ever came before or after it. Sure it's flawed (every movie is to some point) but it's tops in my book for being original,weird and creepy. Not to mention,it came out when horror and slasher flicks were actually good. The late 70's and very early 80's will never be matched or topped...ever.

I was born in 1969 ( no jokes please ) this was the first film that really had an affect on me . Watched all the sequels . And to be honest wished he hadn`t made them . My cousin and I watched this when I was younger. After the movie she had me go outside and get something for her but before I could come back in she locked me outside laughing and said Tall Man's gonna getcha!! I shrieked coz me being a little kid "saw" him walking towards me. lol nice cousin huh?
