reminiscing! This song and David Ruffin's Honey Brown play in my mind every now and again. Orange soda and juicy fruit gum and these songs. Ya'll don't know!
8th Day & 100 Proof Aged in Soul were the SAME group with a different line-up. Members were: * Steve Mancha (born Clyde Wilson) * Eddie Holiday (born Eddie Anderson) * Joe Stubbs (formerly of The Contours, The Originals and The Falcons; brother of Levi Stubbs). Under THIS name, Other mild hits included:
Thank you so much for posting this original 45 of them. My mother took me to Woolworths in Southland Terrace in Louisville in 1971 to buy this. I just loved the song. I didn't know that 40 years later it would still be with me.Bear in mind I was just 5 years old. I STILL have the copy of it. The CD version has a touch more horn and brass section than the raspy muddy 45 does. But I like the 45 for it's raw AM version I was used to hearing. Are any of thier members still around? I would liketono
I still have this 45! I bought a turntable to convert lp to mp3 but I have yet to get started. Soon though, I need to hear music like this more often.
I remember this song when I was 7 yrs old, my mom bought the single. This song has a great beat, good dance song. Why don't they make songs like this anymore?
This sounds like the 100 Proof version for some reason. I remember heavier hand clapping and more funky drumming on my old 8th Day single. I knew later on there was no real 8th Day until a second single hit. The HDH style was to "create" studio bands using existing group songs, then if the song hit, get humans to make it an act. It is kind of weird now knowing we were hearing 100 Proof vs. 8th Day at the time. I remember thinking how much the 8th Day lead sounded like 100 Proof's back then.
You are right about the heavier hand clapping; nonetheless this IS the 8th Day hit version, just like Casey Kasem played it. The original 100 Proof (which got several plays on a local Saturday night oldies show 1985-1994) is quite scarce--only on their debut album, and a simple drum beat without overdubbed heavy hand clapping--yet the same vocal track.
I'm loving on you right now for helping Me take a trip down memory lane. This is My favorite song by 8th Day. Um nostalgia setting in. Thank you *mwah*
This is actually the group "100 Proof Aged With Soul". H-D-H did not want to ruin the sales of "Somebody's Been Sleeping In My Bed", so they released this under the name the 8th Day! Clyde Wilson (Steve Mancha) on the lead.
I was 11, just about to start 7th grade. We had just moved to the Philly neighborhood of Mt. Airy. This song, Want Ads, Band of Gold...H-D-H was putting their thing down without Motown's help.
While you all are ignoring this classic, I've got to tell you I learned about "the bridge" and "change" from songs like this. Check out what's happening at 1:30 - 1:46!
correction, it was Chuck Boyd, this track was recorded at Terra Shirma by the Politicians

I may be wrong but I believe Holland-Dozier-Holland wrote this. The Invictus Label is what they started after leaving Motown.

Zero in on that bass lick. If I was at a club I'd tip him.

@rievans57 I would to, there weren't many guys around playing this funky...save for maybe James Jaimerson of Motown.

@mikeeiland1 Steve Mancha is the lead singer for both groups. I like you did not realize 100 Proof and 8th Day is like Parliament/Funkadelic

I love this song! Got the cd. Biz Markie & MC Peaches sampled this song in each of thier songs back in the early 90's.
