Brings back great memories. An awesome concert made into the best ever by the songs, the weather, the supporting acts, and above all the brilliant crowd. I have vivid memories: The small plastic bottles being thrown, so many that they looked like insects. The Alarm - 68 guns! The bone shaking bass testing before U2 came on. The people pyramids. The mega rush when they finally arrived and then the constant enthusiastic singing and noise from the crowd.
I was front right of stage and was blown away by them , hairs on the back of my neck when they played, , ....remember it was a sunny day and me and my mate had a few points in a packed pub before the gig with U2 playing on the duke box and everyone singing,, the whole day was amazing.......this was one of my first big gigs I was 17yrs old and since have been to all the big festivals and have watched any band worth watching, you name it I have probally seen it But this gig is still the best
Streets was the opener at NEC birmingham a month before this gig, it was my 1st U2 experience and i've been hooked ever since. 6 years since my last now and definetely not missing next tour,
I went to this gig too. I seem to remember the lineup being The Silencers, Alarm, Pretenders and then U2. The thing I remember most was all the plastic bottles being thrown around by the crowd, the human towers and a sore neck as a result of having my girlfriend sat on my shoulders. A superb day out.
Bono said that Edge's old man always wanted him to play Cardiff Arms Park, but in Rugby Football, not in a rock band.. and Edge proceeded to slice that ball dreadfully! fantastic day.. came from Bedford.. remember Alarm's Bells of Rhmyny as a stand out moment.. U2 were awesome.. bought that T-Shirt with Cardiff Arms Park on the back and wore it out stupidly quick..
I remember the pyramids. I remember the fact the lights were left on the car and we had to wait in the car while the lads went off to get a battery! It was a great day. Weather hot and the audience were awesome!
I remember it well. Went down with 3 friends. Came out from the concert and we had left the lights on the car and it wouldnt start. Totally freaky but we stood by the side of the road outside Cardiff Arms and one of the group saw an old friend from college driving by! Stopped the traffic and went and got a new battery! My friend and I were left with the car and took in a lovely chap who shared cigs while we waited!
Remember the pyramids and the great day we had. My mum boiled by t-shirt!
saw them the week before in leeds drove down from manc no ticket met a tout 20$ pass walked straight in just caught the last of the alarm .the 1 thing that hit me was the singing of the crowed every1 in the gaff was up full power ,the people towers 6-6 high i remember every 1 cheering as 1 more got to the top and this little guy climed up 5high just managed to punch the air when it all fell.i'm sure they opened with streets and the came out 1 by 1 ive never seen 80,000 welcome a band since .boom
really winder if perhaps they would perform this again?? or possibly it was just a era song from the 80's only done during the Joshua days!!!!!!!! excellent play u2 does of it of course
too true Stone0602. They have not come near this perfect album since. An absolutely awesome gig. Ref post on other video- i have returened a few times to Ninian Park for "other activities" if you know what i mean but have also been back to "the arms" or millenium as it is officially on play off final day 2003- another great day out!
July 25th 1987. What a day! Silencers, The Alarm, The pretenders as support. Remember all the "people towers" before U2 came on to stand by me by Ben E King! Also remember Bono giving The Edge a rugby ball and Edge cmpletely slicing it into the speaker tower! Probably their best tour and album musically. Purchased a tour t shirt and went to spain on the following Monday wearing it and promptly sold it to a local Spaniard for £50! Any one else out their have any memories to share?
Yes what memories ... Remember the towers, Dexy's midnight runners 'come on eileen' being played and everyone joining in, the alarm singin 'going out in a blaze of glory' and of course U2 and the joshua tree album; wish i still had the t-shirt! no doubt it wouldnt fit
finally a live filmed Spring hill actually appears!!! outstanding!!!!! only if now the filmed show from croke park 87 would turn up Springhill was also done! footage from that show was in the "World in action documentry"
