  • they tottally ripped you off

  • This is one "garrulous" video. =p

  • Pixar Presto? Nope, Chuck Testa

  • Nice animation there. For those who think Pixar copied this animation, if you think this way then I am logically not wrong to consider this animation copying MGM / Looney Tunes classics. There are very many animation about magicians and also many stories about sidekicks wanting to be a star at that time.

  • Nope!!!!

    Is Chuck Testa

  • @JOKERKYZAR AHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHA

  • all i can say is, this is a classic example of how roe v wade changed our lives

  • work for dreamworks man...

  • man, you are losing time doing this homemade videos you MUST be the next animator of pixar.

  • 0:58-1:01 look that smileeeeeeeeeeeeeee <3

  • I think it is kinda funny that the bunny has a belly button! lol

  • Min dotter skickade till mig som uppgivit!!!

  • They took your materials with them?? Wow, that is super lame. So they liked your stuff, but didn't hire you and then used it?

  • If the wand can do true magic then why does he use a elevator for his trick?

  • 57 dislikes from Pixar!

  • This rabbid is so cute!

  • A long time ago there was a famous magician named Balducci was that intended to be a play on the real man?

  • hahaha great storyline, look and animation

  • that is fantastic =D

  • Pixar pitched and produced Presto back in early 2007, and completed the short in May 2008. When did you begin working on Vince Balducci? Perhaps there's a good chance no one got plagiarized.

  • @AvantGardeGuy2 Yea, I do not make judgments. My short was finished spring 2006 and I was interviewed by some recruiters from Pixar before graduation. They do take our materials with them. The shorts were not close enough to be considered plagiarism, can't help but wonder if they were inspired by my short :)

  • @sabernat If they were inspired by your film, then that's good. Personally, I think the two films' similarities are a coincidence. Nice work, by the way.

  • @sabernat I liked yours better! Too bad they didn't give you credit. Haha, in this country you could probably sue! lol. Props none-the-less.

  • i dont get it why do you call it pixar:S aniway its really well done the quality of the video its a bit low but its a great job

  • @mihai96z3d There is a higher quality version in my account, this video was posted years ago when they did not have HD. I put Pixar with a (?) mark because everyone thought it was Presto once it came out in theaters. Obviously my old thesis is no where near the caliber of Pixar's work.

  • dang, nice job! I would give this 20 thumbs up if possible

  • Great job. Good luck with your further projects.

  • pretty sad

  • amazzing!!! XDDD

  • did you get a good grade for this because I loved it!

    It's an awesome video

  • did you get a good grade for this because I loved it!

    It's an awesome video

  • haha cute bunniiii

  • That was amazing!! Mind telling me what you used?? Just out of curiosity

  • omg that was soo good!

  • LOVE IT!!!!

  • love the bunny! nice one

  • ahahah

    well done!

  • wow i cant believe some people say this vid is "pretty stupid"! Its awesome! Gotta luv the little bunny!

  • Thank you!

  • excellent animation! i love how you brought the magician to life with his realistic facial animation. also the bunnie's gimmick of trying to show his card trick is pretty hilarious and a great basis for a plot. the music goes really well with the animation. congrats on having such a capable musician as a friend.

the ending was pretty clever. that's where most shorts fall apart. that being said, i loved your animation :) keep it up :)

  • i love magician type animations, it must just be my love of all things that couldnt possibly happen.

anyway, loved this, it was quite good. if you brought the color out a bit more, so the magician and rabbit didnt have their edges blend into the background, this would have been great. and the music choice was a little iffy.

it was an aswesome flash though

  • Very insightful, thanks

  • vERY GOOG. tHI SONE AND THE pIXAR´S ONE!

  • it's so cute! I want the bunnyies!

  • rabbit is too lowpoly

  • Actually pixars Presto was based on a very old cartoon but they changed it slightly and made it come to life.

now you work sabernat is extremly clever and artistic in every sense but so is pixars. however making this, that interniship that you wanted may turn to back fire on you as they are a big company and while the animations are extreemly different they have more power than one manned crews from schools at such times as this.

  • I can't believe people are actually saying that Pixar didn't take your idea. This was clearly used as the starting point for their video. They had a whole team of people working on it, of course the animation and story line will have changed. But you CANNOT deny the fact that they took your video, used your idea, and changed it into what it is today. They really should have credited you.

Did you give them your portfolio to consider you for a job, and have to sign some kind of release?

  • Yea I submitted to them for an internship while I was finishing my senior year and again a couple years later. Everyone applying has to sign a release that protects them if they are in current production of a particular project and you send work that is similar at the same time.

  • I happen to really enjoy your cartoon. While I adore Presto I as an artist can appreciate the differences and understand the the magician and rabbit theme. As a magician I love seeing the use of the different illusions. Nice work!

  • I like Pixars...

i like the way the bunny actually liked the migcian. he only hurt him cuz he wasn't fed on time. this bunny just flat out whiped out his compatition

  • He never said Pixar stole it or was inspired by this, their just similar but different stories about a magician and a rabbit, both pretty good, but DIFFERENT.

  • Whaw c'est trop mignon !!! Hihi j'adore ! Le petit lapin est trop chou , c'est excellent :D

  • Amazing!

  • yeah dude nice work

  • cool

  • they should of credited you then.. great animation

  • u should join pixar :D that would be sweet then it wouldint even be considered stealing xD

  • To be completely frank , my friend, your story does have more substance than the new Pixar remake, and although i enjoy them both thouroughly, it is through different veins. As they should. I think both you and i see that the reason Pixar changed it up was to simplify it for Disney's main audience; the children, and not to please people like Dragonwing22 or Vargaendre.

  • Do you honestly think that? That it is simplified? I don't think Pixar thinks like Disney. Take f.ex. The Incredibles; they make jokes about suicide, fer cryin' out loud. They don't make simple movies for kids. As for Presto; the guy almost dies. The rabbit faces a moral dilemma: save the guy or be free. It's all rapped in a silly package, sure, but it's not "simple".

Anyway: great work! Dunno if they stole it from you or if it's just coincidence, but it's still funny and well animated.

  • the ending is fantastic. good job.

  • You're assuming that the same people who scout/hire at Pixar also write and draw the movies. I'm sorry you feel they screwed you, but it's more likely a coincidence. I've experienced weird coincidences where I would have sworn someone stole my idea--except I had never mentioned it to them. It does happen.

  • very good! shame they did not credit you in a thanks

  • They just should mention you in the end of the short!

  • thats pretty neat that pixar was inspired by your work. Its a nice short film. Where do you study? I've only ever seen this kind of college talent at places like Sarah Lawerence or SCAD.

  • The point is not the difference in the story but similarity in the "Look and Feel" of the whole world.

    At least its somehow remarkable.

  • There are no other intersections than a magician and a rabbit. Pixar's Presto has a fully different story, different message, different plot. I enjoyed their Presto more than your video but you are talented.

  • Yes agreed, I stated that in the video info.

  • The rabbit's cute. Good work.

  • I really enjoyed your movie. You've got talent! Wish I was as good at movies, but I make models and jewelry.

  • WTF? Pixar....

  • dude...

  • I don't think Pixar has "stolen" your idea, maybe it was just their inspiration. And this is not a bad thing.

  • this is great, watched your demo reel, good stuff!

  • i like it yay rabbit i love the rabbit but i hate vince hes mean to the rabbit

  • real shame :/ have u contacted pixar? what do they think of the whole 'stolen project'.

I guess u signed up for it as u were 'scouted'... still a shame maybe they will hire u in the near furture... checked your site. well done

  • yea...there was a day that I would've loved to work for them. Now I don't know anymore :(

  • I liked it a bunch. Too bad Pixar stole your idea...

Keep working, man. You've got a career ahead of you!

  • I like it.

  • ur work's awesome, i like the expression of the magician

  • Two magical hats is not a new idea, watch old black and white movies.., or Tex Avery for instance wich is more close to it.

They do that, steal ideas, or synopsis, or the beginning of a scenario, or a character you've created, it happens sometimes.

Anyway, for what it's worth I prefer your movie. The Pixar one is full of jokes I already know, others you can see them from afar, not as bright as the "Snowman", or "For the birds" (wich is also an old cartoon joke revisited)

  • the animation is great, the song sucks.. anyway.. i salute you. a great work.

however, although maybe the pure idea is stolen by PIXAR, but PIXAR also came with the new idea of the "two magical hats - you put your hand into the one, your hand appears on another" (which doesn't occur at all in your work) and most of the plot of Presto is born from the idea of that "two magical hats" idea. that idea itself which is creative & eventually creates a lot of jokes, plot & astonishing ending of Presto.

  • mala la wea

  • Bad the "?", que es "wea"?

  • wea = work, thing, etc.

In Chile, "weá" replace a lot of words...

You can find chilean words definitions in the site tubabel (dot) com

  • I love Pixar, but shame on them!

keep on doing this nice job, man!

  • congratulations :D

  • cool

did they say they'd like you to work for them or something

  • Nope...

  • Bonjour

(i'm a shit in english language)

the subject of this video inspired pixar

it's obvious, more over: the graphic idea is stolen too

    your work is good

    continu

    au revoir

  • very nice

  • I don't think that it has a link with the pixar's video.

You can't do videos with unlimited subjetcs so you have sometimes to use a subject already used.

But what pixar did is awesome !

  • good job!

  • Sue them, they stole your idea and work... happens all the time

  • did pixar tell you that they would use the idea of your film to make their own or did they just do it?

where you mentioned in the credits?

are you sure that your's is the idea that they used cos maybe it's an old idea that they used

  • Yea, they never said anything directly. Pixar came down to our school a couple times and the animators interviewed about 5 of us. The took our portfolios with them to review and such, thats pretty common. It could've have been something anyone saw online or an old idea. I really can't say for sure.

  • great job!! i saw PRESTO as well, and the similarities are obvious in your work and theirs. I also advise you to ask PIXAR for credit, because it really seems like they took your idea.

  • You should demand royalties from pixar. If they took your work with them then legally you may have a shot at it. Trust me don't let it go. something this go shouldn't go uncredited they should have at least gave you that or said where their inspiration came from.

  • Pixar didn't steal your idea, "presto" was orignally the product of old warner brothers. critter capers..nice try though.

  • Have you actually seen Critter Capers or are you going by what Pixar said in their blog about Presto?

  • OK This is rediculous! I saw WALL E yesterday and LOVED LOVED LOVED Presto so much that I came right home to see if I could find it online and what do I find? Pixar COMPLETELY stole your concept!!!! I would be outraged!!! I am OUTRAGED for you! It doesn't matter if their rabbit and Presto look different. The CONCEPT is the same! You deserve credit for this! Especially after hearing they took some of your work with you! Again I am totally OUTRAGED by this! Great job on your ORIGINAL piece of art!

  • Wo-hO! Fantastic! Really loved it!

  • I liked your magician, he looks like Edward Norton. The Illusionist, too? Lol. Good animation.

  • uhh lol

  • AWESOME WORK!! =D

im going to college to do the same thing =) lol

  • MUY BUENO!!...de verdad un gran trabajo...Es una Lastima si Pixar te robo la idea...hay que seguir adelante.

  • Cute too!!!

  • haha

  • Woah. How long did it take you to make that?

    Great Animation, and pretty funny.

All I have is Paint and Mytheme's animator to do any animation.

  • The soundtrack could be improved, but this was great. It is similar to Presto, but has a different story.

  • Great.

  • this is so cute! the bunny in Presto was a bit cuter but the animation is awesome! Great job!

  • Fantastic job! I was worried this would be one of those spamming attempts, where people just put tags to match the ones for the actual Presto short - but I'm impressed! You have just earned yourself a place on my favorites list! :D

  • this was awesome nd funnii 2 great job!!!

  • This is really quality stuff, definitely up to par with the professional animation. You definitely have a shot at a job at Pixar!

  • amazing for collidge kids

  • aww... that was cute =] very adorable

  • wonderfull

  • The animation was great, but the sound sucked. Especially the song. You could have had almost no music, and more audience sounds, which would have been a lot more effective. In short great animation, horrible soundtrack.

  • Actually I believe I explained in an earlier comment that since I saw it the story was vastly different besides similar characters, and time period. I only suspected because Pixar came to our school to scout for talent and interviewed a few of us, in the end they took my work with them. Now 2 years later Presto comes out, its a valid feeling. This stuff happens all the time.

  • really cool man!!

  • haha.

    that was really good.

  • This is great! If Pixar "took" this from you without your consent, that completely sucks. It's amazing how ideas can be stolen and recourse is impossible or will make you go bankrupt.

  • Who's playing the piano?

  • My friend, which he had to keep trying to time the music with my ever changing animation production. I give him props for helping me out with this.

  • cute. nicely done.

  • i saw presto too, i like both really (a little bit more pixar hehe) but i congratulate at your work! i hope you see that besides having your idea "taken" is that you have the brains for making great projects! good job...

  • OMG poor you dude..

I will be looking more into this

as I am completly revolted that pixar would do something like this...

and by the way when did u start makin this demo?

  • I started pre-production for this piece spring of 2005, production began summer of 2005 and completed spring of 2006. Though I've been interested in this idea for quite awhile if you look at my old stop motion, theres an old piece called the magician I did in High School (not as developed as this one).

  • kinda feel like you could have rendered it better? and some of the mouth animation definitely is not up to par with pixar but.. for it being a one man job in a few months, i dont think anyone could do any better than this. good job.

  • Yea, I drew them with angular features which didn't really translate very well to 3D and allow very good mouth shapes. Its funny you mention the rendering because we had to use the first version of Pixar Renderman software, which they threw it on us 2nd semester of senior year and none of us had used it before. But its the best rendering I have compared to my Maya rendered projects :)

  • hey very nice animation! I saw presto yesterday and it's true that the designs and the idea have something in common. I hope they didn'T really stole your idea :(

  • I was gonna scold you for trying to piggyback search but that was actually pretty good.

    I'm ashamed now

  • hey there, just curious where your reel got you? did you get employed? where are you at now etcetc

    thanks! :D

  • Yea it got me several jobs and projects the past few years, not at any large film studio where I would like to be. Now I am Co-founder of a new web startup involving animation. My website has info about my history if you are interested.

  • Very nice! Is this school near where Pixar is? I bet if John Lasseter or Andrew Stanton saw this, they'd do anything to have you. What was your reaction when you first heard about "Presto"?

  • The school is in Sarasota, FL. My friend actually sent me the link to the first images of Presto. Pixar came to our school to scout for talent and interviewed a few of us, in the end they took my work with them. I was never offered a position/internship. Now 2 years later Presto comes out, not sure how I should feel.

  • OUCH... company so big and mighty,

    stole a brilliant idea

a very sad thing they did.

  • I saw Presto tonight, other then the similar designs or characters the story actually ended up being different. The goal of their rabbit was to get fed, mine aspired to be the star of the show and was tired of being a useless prop. I am pleased they didn't use my story.

  • did they take just your work or other people's work as well

  • A couple animators came down and interviewed about 5 of us and took our portfolios with them, which is pretty common. I'm sure they get dozens of reels all the time...who knows.

  • cool

did they say they'd like you to work for them or something

  • Huh...nope, that would've been nice =)

  • yeah

    pity

you should demand an apology for them stealing your idea

  • Pixar stole idea? From you? You are gifted!

  • very good

  • Nice work.Great animations.

  • you animated this?? Cool!! What did you go to school for? I want to do this type of thing! Please answer. Very interesting. ~Jess, 13 years old

  • I got a BFA with a major in Computer Animation from Ringling College of Art and Design. Probably one of the best schools to go to for 3D animation! Goodluck...

  • I know a couple of people who go to/went to Ringling, one of whom is majoring in Computer Animation as well. No chance that you know a Patrick Haskew or a Jared Brient by any chance?

  • Yeah, Jared is a buddy of mine that graduated with me. He is now working at Hydraulx. I don't know Patrick, I believe he is still attending Ringling.

  • Yeah, Patrick still has a year left (I think); I went to the same high school and church as both of them in Texas.

  • holly mother, u r great!!

  • genial!! brabisimo!!!

  • brilliant absolutly brilliant

  • really great stuff!

  • You could go to Pixar, I seen the docemumentries about it, its look fun

  • You think the Pixar guys don't have deadlines??

Read Doug Sweetland's interview at awn, Presto almost didn't got made.

Still, your short is very funny! :D

  • Oh, of course they have deadlines. I never said they didn't. I read the interview with Doug, pretty interesting.

  • nevermind...credits. ;) ;)

  • Couple of my friends worked to create the music for my film. It was difficult for them as I kept revising the animation ;) Glad you like it!

  • did you score the music?? :) this is wonderful.

  • haha that was really good

  • Well made, and under the circumstances you spoke of, I think its amazing! Nice work with the music!
