Wow, I wish I had seen this video earlier. That is exactly what happened to my jeep but I had no idea what it was. Kept driving on it and now I need a new driveshaft
An addendum to my other comment - I noticed that, on my Liberty, the front drive shaft does not have exposed U-joints coming out of the transfer case. Instead, it looks like there is some sort of cylindrical casing where a joint would be located.....does anybody know what type of joint would be located in that casing? Please note that I only ever use the 4wd on dirt/muddy roads or when the road is snow-covered - or during occasional rain when the highway has a lot of standing water.
@cdawg4391 Hey thanks and good video. My liberty (NP 231) makes this sound when in 4wd Lo with the wheels are sharply turned or some type of load is put on it (i.e. using engine compression/4Lo gearing to descend a hill). It's also done it, albeit very rarely, in 4wd hi when the wheels are in a sharp turn. I can drive at highway speeds in 4Hi with no problem. Note that there is very slight play in the front shaft coming directly from the transfer case.
your video is great, i have the exact sound comin from my f150 especially when i slow or glide with no gas. thought it was my u joint on my front driver side but that ones tight and solid, im almost certain i have the same problem cant wait till the mornin to check it out lol thank you
Rigth on the money!!! My liberty Jeep started to make noise but not problem when driving . It only lasted 3 weeks, after that I was gettting vibrations when going on high speed on the parkway. Anything above 50MPH would shake so baldly that I had to pull over to the curve. Not knowing what that hell is going on. Thanks for the video it helped a lot.
DUDE, holy fucking shit THANK YOU!!! This is EXACTLY what is wrong with my truck. Going through parking lot... same exact sound EVERYTHING and I was just about to take my truck into mechanic for a $100 diagnostic. Not any more! I have trying to figure this out for so long, and thanks to you, I'm going to save a lot of money and worry. THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dude i just came in the house from praying all the way home that my truck didn't disintegrate on the way home. It has been making that clicking noise for a couple weeks and I couldn';t figure it out and today started a much louder KNOCK randomly in the front end. Going out to check them now. Thanks for the video and description for those of use that have enough tools to be dangerous...lol
good video...i'm having similar problem same clicking with vibration...the sound was so bad i had to pulled off the highway...i parked my liberty over night...i came back to pull off the road..but there was no more noise...it has happened like this several times...mechanical saids transfer case...but i hear the noise on the front drive shaft bearings...i put the jeep in 4wd and 2wd now and no noise...after 15miles...it comes back...any suggestions 19175435401 danny
@dblkack30 Yeah 2 Things i wish some1 would have told me1 Just get under ur car and grab ur driveshaft if there's to much play then lift up 1 tier and spin it and see if u hear the clicking as u slowly turn the wheel u can see the front driveshaft move but thats only if it moves even if its in 2wd like mine but if all eles fails just need some basic tools and 15 min to take out ur front driveshaft. Then u will really know bcz the sec i took out my front Driveshaft All fixed that was the prob
@pimaporscha Yeah i meant to put a annotation but it was the front drive shaft the u joint went bad but i kept driving with it and messed up the whole drive shaft so i got a new one now no vibration or sound
it also depends on what size lift kit you have on your xj... with some lift kits you have to buy new driveshafts because of the angle of the driveshaft from the tranny to the transfer case or the diff to the transfercase
@bmxer14 Yeah bcz for me it was the u joints and the drivehsaft rod it self was screwed up bcz i didnt change the u joints soon enough so i just took out the front driveshaft all together but a new one to be insalled all together roughly 300 bucks if i buy online
put your hand around my shaft
