Do be so harsh on the mother. You don't know at what point losing the leg became the #1 fear. She was most likely talking about after the injury, perhaps in the hospital. The doctor may have said something like, she's stable, but we don't know if we can save the leg.

We used to own a beach house in Topsoil Island then bought one in Destin, Florida where there are also shark attacks. The local publications & media keep it a secret because they don't want to scare the tourists away. Locals know and respect the waters though.

Glad she is alright. There was a 14 year old visiting with friends on their boogie boardsin Destin Florida (looks like turtles or seals from below to a shark) and she was killed! The following weekend another attack on a man in Panama City attacked after shark specialist said this wasnt' a trend. Meanwhile, many large bull sharks are spotted regularly near the shore while oblivious tourists swim at dusk and dawn !
