Another reason is Ethiopia has very rugged terrain. We in Kenya are to blame for this we virtually have not developed the roads in the North for so many years. The infrastructure is virtually non-existent. Secondly it shows how weak our foreign diplomacy muscle is if the Ethiopians beat us to the punch. This should be a major priority for Kenya's diplomatic machinery just by the sheer amount of jobs that will be created by this pipeline.
@drsugarcane WELCOME to the kibaki admin. with him incompetency of the highest degreez r what has overshadowed his presidency, the biggest foreign policy thing they've tried to do and ultimately failed is trying to safeguard the ocampo six. literally his govt has taken ths country to the dogs, uganda jst recently signed a 2billion dollar rail projectr btwn it and tanzania, and plans r underway to buil a pipeline thru to port of dar.
@drsugarcane kenol kobil has shifted its base of operations to tz thanks to corruption nd incompetence at the min. of energy, boy are we fucked.i wonder what the vision 2030 team is doing and businessez r literally flying out of the country, thngz dnt even look good frm a political level, the constitution that we passed guarantees the largest nd grandiose gvt ths country will ever have, means more taxes and less for infrastructure projects since admin. lazma ilipwe.WE ARE TRULY BLOODY FUCKED!
@madscientistify yeah most multinational oil companies have moved out of kenya because of our anti-competitive price regulations. They've been priced out of the market and facing hostile business environment. We are fucked because we are moving toward thinking more regulations and price controls and bigger government is the answer. We are adding more MP's and a behemoth of county gov we can't afford. Kenyans and investors will pay taxes through the nose and investors will move to Rwanda and TZ.
Actually its lame to run that pipeline though Ethiopia instead of Kenya for two reasons. One, Ethiopia is a landlocked country. Two, Ethiopia is not politically stable and has been under a dictator and has rebels in the south. Kenya is much more politically stable and is a democracy. They should think harder about this.
Shiet! They changed their mind about running the pipeline through Kenya? After we helped them secure the peace agreement and even smuggled them weapons?
