Some of you are looking at it wrong still. We evolved and changed to live on this planet, not the other way around. Imagine how other beings might look, conditioned from planets made of other types of particles.
@humanoideric Dont know how you came to write this, but I want you to understand that it is a Point of View: Organisms started to live on earth and evolve aswell as Organisms evolved and started to live on earth (in this concept i take intelligence and a retrospective view as a basis for this believe) You can see it upright and averse; My own intelligence has boundaries and here is mine, since i dont know which is the right one, I take both as basic truths;
I overheard someone say that he thought we were seeded and are now at the seventh stage in our development as humans. Like the seventh and final design change in the type of a car. To progress the car needs a whole new reworking from the chasis up, and thats whats in store for us too. We all have to die. The latest Ford Fiesta is radically different than the first...and the first cannot be made into the latest...interesting idea!
People always say that the Earth contains life because of its perfect conditions for life. (Oxygen supply, temperature, amount of liquid water) When I read Cosmos, it made me think of something I never thought of before. Carl said that this planet is perfect for us because we've adapted to it so well. There could be life on another totally different planet, and whoever lives there is probably saying how their planet is perfect for life, too.
yea thats how I see it too. oxygen level is actually very balanced, because a fewer percent than 21% would result in beings would not have enough energy to move around. However we would have adapted to this. If you add more percents, even moist tree would be flammable and there would be huge forrestfires. So its understandable that people might think that its finetined :)
That can really be possible: why do we search for life like us... maybe there is life that can live (im not english) without oxygen and things we need
BECAUSE YOUR A MOTHERFUCKING IDIOT JUST LIKE US YOU COCKSUCKING FAGGOT. OWWWWWWWWWW, HURTS DOESN'T MOTHERFUCKER. YOU KNOW YOU ARE AS DUMB AS US AND YOU ASSOCIATE YOURSELF WITH SAGAN EVEN THOUGH YOUR INTELLECT IS WAY BELOW THE AVERAGE HOMOS INCLUDING MINE. aAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAAHAHHA. NOW LISTEN TO KERMIT THE FROG AND SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU COCKSUCKER.
@BlueSpirals everybody has to know and to accept that the life is like that .we are born and we die is a law of the nature. and can't do nothing to stop this process . but he'll always come back over and over again and that befalls with everyone of us and what happens is that we don't really realize about it -believe it or not is like this
The Drake equation seems to me mostly speculation, but neccesary to ponder nontheless. Life as we know it may spawn just as it has on Earth, as well as in many other environments we cannot predict. There could be life crawling in the cavernous recesses of a black hole for Christ's sake (hehe)... Were that the case, then life very may well flourish abundantly across the known universe.
ye ye we also know that philosophicallly it can not be proven that we both see the same red color as the same red color... even your existence can not be proven like your intelligence...
With all due respect, that's ridiculous. You can't objectively prove there aren't, say, smurfs on Mars. That most certainly doesn't prove that there ARE. See what I mean?
if god exists FUCK HIM!!!! he killed sagan that motherfucker!!!!!! rarrr fuck god, jesus, alahh, muhashit, and vergin mary fuck them all those fucking mother fucking fuckers!!! why the fuck did they kill sagan???? carl sagan RIP
Hey, the accumulated evolution implanted in every nucleotid of his DNA killed him. Will you be so upset against evolution or his DNA as well? just curiostiy..
Well I would like God because God created the universe Carl can talk about -with every beauty and ugliness he can talk about and the Carl itself. You seem to have an odd approach to events...
The is no symmetrical interpretation of correctness in science. Scinece eliminated theories which are 100% false. But it continues using the ones which are not 100% correct. Science does not rely on proof science relies on disproof. There is no disproof for God's existence though it is not proved. I am not talking about Christian God when I say God.
Did you mean: Sagan pointed out we are part of the cosmic whole, made of the elements formed by stars and supernovae. Our place is one of humility on the large scale, infintessimally small compared to the vastness of the universe. And yet we are the part of the universe that gives it consciousness, that looks out and wonders at itself. This picture seems more spiritual than the one of being flawed creatures made by a disappointed and angry God.
Wow I so agree with your assessment. I look at us in the same fashion, even when you consider the primordial days of man grasping with abstract thought and contemplating death on a whole new level (i.e. the birth of religion). I think its an incredible thing to have come as far as we have. Too bad religious folk don't see it that way.
una de las mejores series, hecho en esa epoca imaginativa en la que sagan nos CONTABA cosas con pocos medios y no se nos BOMBARDEABA con efectos digitales de ultima generacion.... hoy dia seguramente alguien imitandola la cagaria....
And you are a mockery to common sense. Evolution theory was never made to mock religion, it was made because we as humans wanted real answers, using scientific principals and math. Evolution is based on millions of peices of factual evidence, and has never disproven in over 100 years. Religion, however relies on myth and not facts. Sagan was too smart to believe in some made up story about God.
Mr.Sagan "The heavens declare the glory of God;and the firmament sheweth His handywork" Psalm 19:1.This wonderful universe was created by an omnipotent God who shows us His power by creation and most importantly at the cross when He sent His SON the LORD JESUS CHRIST to die for all of our sins, past, present and future so that we would not go to hell.Evolution makes a mockery of God.
If the simple scientific truths of genetic mutation and natural selection makes a mockery of your god, then what does that say about your god? Put another way, are you brave enough to embrace the promise and wonder of science and math to broaden your understanding of the world in which you live? Or are you content to share a point of view held by people 4000 years ago?
Sagan pointed out we are part of the cosmic whole, formed from the elements formed in stars and supernovae. Our place one of humility on the large scale, infintessimally small compared to the vastness. And yet we are the part of the universe that gives it conscience, that looks out and wonders at itself. This picture seems more spiritual than the one of being flawed creatures of a disappointed and angry God.
"I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, [that] I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;" Deut. 30:19 - As Sagan quoted in "Cosmos" - this quotation goes way beyond "God" and "Religion" to me! There are two forces going on all the time - love and intelligence and chaos and insanity... I see Sagan as a force of love and sanity!
yes, he was a rare one. he brought astronomy to the common person and instilled a sense of wonder about life. there is no one i know of currently like him.
We now return to Carl Sagan's Cosmos [Edited for Rednecks]:
