  • I've never seen a shunting engines work in space, it's beautiful

  • venting my ass , this is control position for proper alignment at re entry and control descent ,,,they know where is going to be pick up....

  • Google

    shiutle HOAX MattMarriott

  • me want to see the EXPLOSIon !!

  • Same

  • Put Nucks in them and land them on China, that outa do the job.. Not more sat problems..

  • I think most of the external tanks burn and explode in the atmosphere by re-entrying. The others leave Earth's gravitation field and goes to the far reaches of space.

    Am I right?

  • Almost right..they all burn up in the Earth's atmosphere and impact in the Indian Ocean or the Pacific Ocean, depending on the launch trajectories.

  • great vid

I NEED SOMEONE TO TALK TO X4

  • you can see it break the sound barrier at around 1:09

  • There's no soundbarrier in space, only in Earth's atmosphere.

  • @tnort222 No way it can be a sound barrier (yet I have no idea what it is). First this is open space, and second the speed there is immense (at least 20 times the speed of sound)

  • what is the stuff sprayed out of the tank?

  • i think it's the surplus liquid fuels (Oxygen and Hydrogen) that want to get out as gas to even out with the much lower pressure outer atmosphere, sucking it all out

  • does anyone know where can i find the video of the tank burning up in the atmosphere?

  • I don't think any video of that exists.

  • oh,i saw some other video said he saw a video of the tank burning up in the atmosphere.thanks for the info though.

  • this is my cousin's account,i know his pw and he knows mine...so i replied using his acc :-/

  • great video, saw this on NASA TV couldn't believe it!!!

  • WTF! a triangular ufo @3:45!!!pause it.

  • Check out my video: STS-115 Atlantis UFO for a triangular UFO with the external tank!

  • i thought they fall back to earth and are recovered. or do they just burn up in the atmosphere? in anycase it doesn't take millions to build or launch a rocket or space craft its only nasa and other greedy i line my pockets with other peoples money type people who would argue that nasa is doing a great job and is spending money wisely and is the authority on everything, yet they delete, get rid of anything that could be helpful. btw see they are wasteful with fuel too..dumped in space.

  • the white booster are recovered and used again for 50 time. the red external tank is recovered but it can't be re-used.

  • I thought the external tank is been destroyed in the athmosphere?

  • @scienziatapazza No, external tank is not. It is burned upon re-entry. It would be too heavy and expensive if it had heat protection allowing it to survive re-entry. It's not a problem, however, as tanks are cheap to produce. The most expensive part of the mission is orbiter maintenance (and it is the main problem of shuttle use at all)

  • @scienziatapazza The boosters are recovered and its segments are reused up to ~20 times, but the External Tank burns up over the Indian Ocean. Like aleksandarrudic said, thermal protection system to allow the ET to survive reentry would make the system too heavy to launch. Also, that "sound barrier" effect is just the same venting that the tank is doing throughout the video. The "triangular UFO" is flakes of ice ejected from the shuttle orbiter.

  • @scienziatapazza The External tank is not recovered, it is burnt up on reentry of the atmosphere

  • @TarrVlogs hey dumbo its not burn't up on reentry have you seen them recover it before your such a freaking moron!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @tomtwins29 And let me correct you on that. The Solid Rocket Boosters are recovered, NOT the external tank. Look it up if you don't believe me.

  • @TarrVlogs also how do you think it makes it through the atmosphere with the shuttle

  • @tomtwins29 Not as much friction.

  • Why are these not brought into orbit and reused, as habitat space or something?

  • That would make too much sense. One external tank has as much interior volume as the ISS and Mir put together, and can hold more than one atmosphere of pressure. The only technical problem is that the spray-on foam insulation tends to outgas. Other than that, it's too good of an idea for NASA. Check out spaceislandgroup dot com

  • Because they are burnt badly from the SRB's, look at how black it is right after ET sep.
