I hate how every post punk revival band like Interpol and Editors are called "rip-offs" of Joy Division. Hello people! Thats why it's called "Post Punk REVIVAL". They aren't stealing, they're keeping the spirit alive!!!
Ever since I heard "Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors" I've been mesmerized by this band, and everytime I hear a song from them, regardless of how many times I've heard it, they never cease to amaze me.
apparantly tom has to wear one of those transformer voice convertor helmets from argos or something because heaven forbid he should have a good voice similar to that of joy division
there not the same their both individual bands and no they also dont sound like coldplay
JD fans just like to say everything and anything is a ripoff of ian curtis and joy division, and be all on fire about the whole thing. I love Ian Curtis and JD, and i don't mind at all hearing things that sound like them, it shows that they made an influence on people, that they actually were heard and not under-appreciated.. they were achingly, heartbreakingly beautiful. I adore bands who are influenced or at least touched by what JD was, I love that the flame isn't dead..i'd be sad for music.
Editors, Interpol, Joy Division etc are all different. None are the same. They are all in their own league. Just because of the vocals being a little similar, doesn't make them copies of each other. That's the stupidest criteria to judge a band.
Individuality is what these bands are going for & they definitely achieved this. Like visual art, music is all about individuality and unique styles. If you cant' see Editors for what they are, rather than what they sound LIKE, then u have a problem.
@olhonmusic A little hint for you.Millions of people around the world listen to Editors. If you dont like them just stop listening them. And go troll somewhere else.
@32bom "Millions of people around the world listen to Editors". sure, you're right. But it's also true that they are a clone! :-) music biz is full of clones, that's normal. When there's a lack of ideas, people steal them from others, hoping in a commercial success. And luckily (for Editors) Joy Division are unknown for most of today's young boys..they did a good job in this sense. But...what about the aestethic value of this operation? IMHO it's near zero. But I'm a troll, I could be wrong...
@olhonmusic I just wanted to say that I don t like when someone criticizes their work in that kind of way.You are wright i am 32 and I don t know Joy Division well. But they are something different and they are unique in these times.Maybe there is a small similarity, but still Editors are separate band.No offense Cheers from Poland
Favourite live song of all time, and for those who say editors are copying joy division, interpol or depech mode, sure the're all good bands and sound similar but for fuck sake unless the songs are exactly the same lyrics, title and music its their own music and their not gonna stop because you say 'its sounds too much like another band' so stop complaining and get a life
I remember my band tried to cover this song, and we thought we weren't bad.
When we tried to play it with the album version, however, we couldn't help but fall behind. This song is remarkably fast on the album.Playing it at its original speed is, in my mind, an amazing feat.If you listen, you can hear they play it slower.
Because this band owes royalties to Ian Curtis's estate. Joy Division was doing this stuff thirty years ago, when it was interesting. Now, it's just a rehashed, derivative band with no individuality.
Just because I can write a tragic five-act play in blank verse doesn't mean I should be compared to Shakespeare.
I went to a movie rental place and on the new releases section, I saw a Joy Division DVD. I laughed. On the box, it said how inspirational they were. I think Editors takes indie to a whole new level rather than Joy Division.
Nah. The way they make songs is a bit different from Interpol. The bass lines and the guitar riffs don't sound alike. It's just that the genre is the same. I agree that both bands make great music.
Snow Patrol influences are blatant. Joy Division... Face it, as hard as it is to say, it's almost impossible to be original, because with today's speed, as soon as you come up with something good, it's been sampled by an R&B artist or ripped off by the indie crowd.
unless you were born in isolation and never heard any music it is impossible to be original. little pieces of everything you listen to work their way into your music.
hmm toms voice sounds a bit less deep than usual, anyway still great proformance, AND IN MY OPINION EDITORS ARE BETTER THAN INTERPOL ( im not interested if that makes me a whatever youre gonna say )
In the comments section on every Editors video there is at least one person who says that they're just a Joy Division rip-off (which is bollocks as they sound nothing alike) and another who says they're not as good as Interpol (also bollocks).
Oh dear, two bands in the world who sound vaguely similair. How will we cope.
It's amazing how much better Tom has gotten in concert since they first came on the scene. I he was still great during the Back Room days, but nothing like he is now.

Editors yes they are good and talented but something is missing off the album its not all there not like a turn on the bright lights by interpol which is complete. sorry to those who don't like interpol..{i think anyone who can read these comments Knows who im talking bout} i think the lyrics and the meaning the editors offer aren't as interesting as interpol's lyrics and writing ability. just as bob dylan horrible singer great lyricist and guitar player but theres more than singing in a band.
That's what you think, in my opinion these are kinda good. If you wanna go off on a hissy fit 'cause someone doesn't agree with your tastes, take it somewhere else.
For Cool T-Shirts, Vests & Hoodies this summer click on my name and you can find an address on my page, alternatively click on any of my vids and you'll find it there too.
Bloc Party better than Editors. Best laugh I've had in a long time. Editors have nailed the Alternative aesthetic, with anger and beauty in abundance. Magical.
I like Interpol a little more but both bands better pray to Ian Curtis every night because if it wasn't for Joy Division these bands wouldn't be here.
All the haters need to shut up. There are worse things in the world than hearing bands on the radio that sort of sound like Joy Division. Other generations should be so lucky.
I agree. He's so much better at singing than the lead singer for Interpol. Editors' singer sounds smoother and fits the emotion of singing vs. shouting.
wow thats a lie, its not about range interpol gives the music character. joy divisions off ness you can say gave them character plus interpol smoked editors on reviews check pitchfork media
You say I lie about Editors' singing vs. Interpol's, but support my statement by saying "it's not about range, it's about character."
I never said anything about character. My comment was directed strictly toward the ability to sing. And as for reviews... that's great. Opinions from opinion sources... nothing like the "truth". I don't like Interpol... got a problem? Face it, b/c not many people do when you look at what is popular today, son.
you were going so well until you appended the "son" bit.
i think you are right about tom smith being a better singer than paul banks but there's no need to patronise people into the bargain. i'm afraid by that post you just come off looking like a complete fucking twat.
When a person throws together a barrage of opinions and concludes his case by contradicting himself... how am I s'pose to view him? He just appears to be a reputable Interpol fan that holds fast his mindset.
As for the latter part of your comment... I don't know what to say. Maybe I just know how to stress an objective opinion in a light-winded sense, instead of beating him/her over the head with frankness; not to mention the many flavors of vulgarity/rudeness.
This kind of thing anoys me, you need to realise that nothing nowdays is a original... I've seen Editors suporting Franz Ferdinand at NEC in Brum in Nov. 2005, they were awesome... I love Bloc Party, Editors and Interpol and they sound nothing a like, only their influence's are virtually the same. There's something different in all three bands, may it be the guitar riffs, bass lines, lyrics and popularity, and their's somthing simular in all three bands.
errrrrrmmmm bolc party and editors r totaly different although i think bloc party have amazing drum patterns and great guitar riffs editor r so much better they realy r its just a shame they aint as big
Interpol is the cream of the crop with melancholic vocals, pixie-esque basslines, dreamlike dual guitars, and dense drumming.
Bloc Party have a wailing singer unique to the post-punk sound. They also have a much tighter and more original rhythm section than Editors, and an excellent lead guitarist that is great with dissonance.]
Editors? Meh. They are okay. Generic post-punk revival riding on the tales of Bloc And Interpol. They will be forgotten within 2 years.
Long Life To The Editors.

Whoah, chill. It's just music.
thisthingisgood 4 years ago
shit music being compared to good music makes me angry. and i think the idea of "just" music is pretty relative.
Spooksie 4 years ago
That's what you think, in my opinion these are kinda good. If you wanna go off on a hissy fit 'cause someone doesn't agree with your tastes, take it somewhere else.

Amen to that. im sick of seeing youtube arguments

Bloc Party better than Editors. Best laugh I've had in a long time. Editors have nailed the Alternative aesthetic, with anger and beauty in abundance. Magical.
rupepupkin 4 years ago
I like Interpol a little more but both bands better pray to Ian Curtis every night because if it wasn't for Joy Division these bands wouldn't be here.
logan31188 4 years ago
All the haters need to shut up. There are worse things in the world than hearing bands on the radio that sort of sound like Joy Division. Other generations should be so lucky.

editors are great even if they are from... shhh ...birmingham

wow, love his voice!

I agree. He's so much better at singing than the lead singer for Interpol. Editors' singer sounds smoother and fits the emotion of singing vs. shouting.
Cxxx2 4 years ago
wow thats a lie, its not about range interpol gives the music character. joy divisions off ness you can say gave them character plus interpol smoked editors on reviews check pitchfork media
interpolhands2 4 years ago
You say I lie about Editors' singing vs. Interpol's, but support my statement by saying "it's not about range, it's about character."
I never said anything about character. My comment was directed strictly toward the ability to sing. And as for reviews... that's great. Opinions from opinion sources... nothing like the "truth". I don't like Interpol... got a problem? Face it, b/c not many people do when you look at what is popular today, son.
Cxxx2 4 years ago
you were going so well until you appended the "son" bit.
i think you are right about tom smith being a better singer than paul banks but there's no need to patronise people into the bargain. i'm afraid by that post you just come off looking like a complete fucking twat.

When a person throws together a barrage of opinions and concludes his case by contradicting himself... how am I s'pose to view him? He just appears to be a reputable Interpol fan that holds fast his mindset.
As for the latter part of your comment... I don't know what to say. Maybe I just know how to stress an objective opinion in a light-winded sense, instead of beating him/her over the head with frankness; not to mention the many flavors of vulgarity/rudeness.

i cant think of anything that sounds less like bloc party lol

This kind of thing anoys me, you need to realise that nothing nowdays is a original... I've seen Editors suporting Franz Ferdinand at NEC in Brum in Nov. 2005, they were awesome... I love Bloc Party, Editors and Interpol and they sound nothing a like, only their influence's are virtually the same. There's something different in all three bands, may it be the guitar riffs, bass lines, lyrics and popularity, and their's somthing simular in all three bands.

it's too LAZY!!! bullets is manic and exciting on the album..it's so boring live.
it's like "here comes the chorus..." there's supposed to be a "...BOOM!!!" but there's not...it just never takes off.
Spooksie 5 years ago
it doesn't sound like bloc party, but just like interpol.
they have soon the same voice ^^
it's faster than interpol however
JackWhiiite 5 years ago
The singer really takes aping Ian Curtis to a new level.
The rest of the cues are from Interpol.
I guess this is the sort of thing we'll have to get used to more often than not now that Indie has gone Pop.
istultus 5 years ago
Interpol is the cream of the crop with melancholic vocals, pixie-esque basslines, dreamlike dual guitars, and dense drumming.
Bloc Party have a wailing singer unique to the post-punk sound. They also have a much tighter and more original rhythm section than Editors, and an excellent lead guitarist that is great with dissonance.]
Editors? Meh. They are okay. Generic post-punk revival riding on the tales of Bloc And Interpol. They will be forgotten within 2 years.

Cross, my man......after An End Has A Start went platinum, do you wanna revise your comments?
Interpol - Fucking brilliant band - in their own right
Bloc Party - Fucking brilliant band - in their own right
Editors - Fucking brilliant band - in their own right.
You see wha I'm getting at here?
Peace be upon you
