We did this experiment but we made are arms wet held the bubbles and put them over the fire... way cooler then what you guys do.

Our teacher used to do similar one, but instead of making small methane bubbles, he would make a v big one which he would light as it floated up. He stopped doing it when in year 11 coz he claimed it was 'baby science'

hahaha we did this today but our class got to put water on our hands and hold the bubbles when our teacher lit it with the candle. Our hands were on fire for a couple seconds but it didn't hurt, it was only a little warm. that didn't stop any one in our class from flinching and screaming!

We did this exact experiment in our chem classes (regular, honors, I think we also do it in the AP again just for kicks), but we have a heavier gas coming into our labs from the spigots. I forget exactly what it was. Needless to say the bubbles fell :) blew up across our feet. My teacher is bringing in a huge tank of methane next year so we can scorch the ceilings of the new science wing.

Here's how you can get methane for free. Eat some beans, get a coffee can, fart into it everytime you have to, immediately close the can after it. Let it sit in there for awhile, then you should have methane. But the second you release the lid, the methane will disperse rapidly because of its lighter weight, as the instructor said in this video.

this one is a weak version of what he did last year. he did it for 30 straight mins on wednesday (i had him 4th period) and then another 30 mins on thursday. one of the times we got him to ignite one that was about 4 ft high.
