  • Actually very different cars. The Audi S1 excelled in Group B Rally, it was up to 1200BHP.

  • The rally-raid version seen on this video isn't one of the fastest cars in the world. Its circuit version is. Different kinds of sports require different capabilities. Circuit racing car can't drive on gravel. Rally car wont be fast in Monza. Neither a rally car nor a circuit racing car will be able do drive in Dakar. This Porsche is better than Audi when you go offroad, but Audi (the same about Peugeot 205 t16 and Lancia Delta S4 :D) is much faster on rally stage.

  • nt one onrecord they made 300 or 310 or less but there is 1 that crashed at the clipsal adelaide 500 in australia but he only dent and rubed a gard but imagine having to repair a car that porsche made like 300 of yeah i need some spare parts

    Charley boorman took a BMW motorbike to the 2006 Dakar, given to him brand new from BMW. He then had to pay another 25000 pounds to get it Dakar prepared.

  • a normal diesel SUV factory prep. for this race is around hundred K, ticket to get in the show 15 K, support car, electronics, five crew members at least, spare parts, co-pilot, trip out of africa with car and all, you are looking at a cool half mil..I have been researching the last five years, every year goes up about 50 k

  • The road version was a beautiful car but this rally version, although desert conquering, does look odd. I think this car holds the record for the shortest amount of time spent as the fastest road car in the world. shortly after its release Ferrari made the F40 which was a bit quicker.

And that thing is probably more competent in the sand than any suburban or explorer or escalade. do some research before calling the designers at porsche bastards.   • intelsilver,what world are you living in,sorry?Don`t believe what you see in movies like "Fast and stupid".There is nothing that Japan produces today that can even chase a Cayman for example.And the cayman is among the slowest Porsches.80% of Porsches produced are still running so you cannot say they are unreliable.Japanese cars are either for teenagers on a low budget or for old ladies(i`m mean,i know).Seriously now,Porsche is in a different league.

  • the skyline GTR and the honda NSX could both give a 911 a run for its money, not to mention the evo and the sti could compete with a boxter any day on tarmac, not to mention off road, where the boxter would be useless.   • the 959 is a demonstration of automotive engineering years ahead of it's time. while other automobile manufacturers are still in the "pursuit of perfection," porsche is defining it.
