Woops, mistyped. Your not jumping octaves. You just have you cut off set really really stupidly. Why don't u let the sound carry instead of doing that dumb shit were it sounds like your mike/keyboard is broken?
Very nice cover. I love the chords. One question, at 1:31 when you put emphasis on "...get it..." , I've heard that effect several times in vocoder songs. How do you do that? So as you go down that chord are you also bending the pitch down as you do it?
DARKHURD I can't stop watching ... you are the funkiest person alive. I wish I was you xD ... you're amazing and I mean it. Apparently that axis1 in red is pretty rare, isn't it a midi controller? Cause they cost more than the keyboard xD ... btw what keyboard is it, in info it just says 'korg' which one xD ? Sorry if it does say it somewhere, I'm not too good at locating info, cheers x Keep it funky! (I'm going to save up for a se-70 though, they are awsome! :o ... I just want a vocoder BAD! x
The most important question is about what the sound source is for the synth..Its the Korg 707 thats pictured and played in this video. The axis is midi'e to control that keyboards sound.the keyboard is set to also play the same sound..I love this cheesy Korg 707 because I can quickly edit the sounds in it.faster than any keyboard from the 80's.:)
Cool cool, don't worry mate, I watch this video everyday so I was bound to see it at some point =] ... thanks for the reply Dr Slam. I wish I was alive in the 80's =[ ... born 1992, not helpful when I love the fashion, sounds and synths xD ... but great job and thanks for letting me know x
That's a great question..It's possible to sing the wrong notes but play the right notes and therefore sound cool..But on this song i sang the right notes so I had a mix of my real voice with the vocoder. I'd say its 85% vocoder sound. The real voice is needed for the transients that are involved with vocals.
On this device i can pick what frequency I want for the mic. I picked 2 hertz..that setting sounded the best that day.
I'm singing but...okay the mic is processed by the vocoder..both the Mic and the korg are plugged into the Boss Se-70..I used the vocoder program..Please look up Vocoder on google for a better explanation.:)
I used the brass preset on the Korg 707..but I used the real time sliders to adjust it for the vocoder. The sliders make the korg 707 the best used keyboard for things like the talkbox and the vocoder. it also has aftertouch.
Yesss...this is usually the favorite part for most musicians that hear it. It's not vibrato or the mod wheel. It's just making the sound like blowing wind and having the tongue vibrate off the front of my mouth..it's the same thing my girlfriend does in my ear when she wants something in a hurry..If you have ever rolled a Rrrr sound then you know how to do it.:) I always check this sound before I record anything with my vocoder..
I was wondering for the vocoder, do you just talk into it and it produces the pitch that you need, or do you have to sing the same pitches that you are playing?
I would think that you would sing them to help you play the notes, but you dont have to sing the right pitches.
Thanks..yes i sang it..you need to look up vocoder to get how it is done..on my unit the Se-70 by Boss...it has a paramater that allows tou to mix in the dry mic with the vocoder sound. i set mine real voice at about 15% or less. I first did this song about 10 years ago in my studio..I noticed then that it sounded very cool..its been something I alway try when i hook up the vocoder.:)
yeah Benfirst doessn't understand that vintage gear rocks..yes its a 1987 Red Roland Axis in Mint condition..:) People at the concerts I play don't say, "oh no not that keytar"...lol...hahaha..
They just say man you burn that red thing up like nobody's business!! As long as people pay money to come to clubs and see and hear it..there will be haters...but for the rest of us there's me.:)
I know I've spoken with you a few times now, and you've helped me out a great deal. Thanx 4 that, but it has to be said again I really like your videos but this one particularly inspires me. P.S. You were right, Mike Philly is damn good at what he does.
Mike uses his monophonic vocoder to the max! My vocoder is both monophonic and polyphonic..Thats the biggest and best differences..when i play chords these tight harmonies come thru..I can stutter/crescendo/breathe and play bass with my left hand while playing the lead with my right..all live! I know i promised to explaing this..I will..today.:) thx!
This is cool

mariomariobrosluigi 3 years ago
You can buy a Boss Se-70 for $100 to $150...the keyboard is about $150 on ebay..
darkhurd 3 years ago
but i already have a keyboard together with a microphone.so what do i have to buy to make it like techno(robot voice)?
mariomariobrosluigi 3 years ago
All you need is the Boss Se-70. plug your mic in it and your keyboard on its other input..then you will hear robot or techno sounds.:)
darkhurd 3 years ago
ok,thanks a lot!!

one question...I know the vocoder does a lot of work, but how much in tune do you as the singer have to be to make it sound halfway descent even?
armanth13 3 years ago
