Lattice screens? interesting i am from El Salvador and i remember seeing them in armored trucks and other vehicles back in the 80's. Now i know what they were for.
That's most pathetic example of "whataboutism" I've ever came across. A.Hitler, N.Chamberlain, B.Mussolini and É.Daladier signed the "Munich betrayal". Poland took advantage of situation and reclaimed Zaolzie - taken by Czech druing Poland's struggle for survival in 1919-1920. I encourage people to type: "Munich pact, Zaolzie,Polish-Czechoslovak War" and see themselves how utterly retarded is to say something like: "Nazi German - Poland (allience)" In comparison with Nazi-soviet collaboration.
@permyak59 LOL! Learn history, dude. In Munich Czechoslovakia was sold out to the III Reich. In Oct 1938 Poland took a very small strip of Czechoslovakian territory inhabited mostly by Poles. Type "Zaolzie" in Wikipedia.
...inhabited mostly by Poles. Type "Zaolzie" in Wikipedia. - Well, type it. "From 1920 to 1938... Poles became a minority, which they are to this day".
...Poland took a very small strip of Czechoslovakian territory - with strongest industry on Polish-Czechoslovakian border.
@strnadek01 After Czech aggression in 1920 Poles became a minority because Czechs made their own statistics. Compare number of Poles in 1910 (census made by Austrian authorities) and in 1921 (Czech data). Of course a significant number of Poles had do flee to Poland but in spite of that the Czech data is doubtful: reduction of the number of Poles from 124 000 to 68 000. Industrial importance of the area is clear. This is not the issue that we are talking about.
@1DonCarlos1 So, your claim "Zaolzie in 1938 was inhabited mostly by Poles" is false. National migration in region during ages "is not the issue that we are talking about".
@strnadek01 Nope. The truly number of Czechs & Poles in '38 is unknown because Czechs: 1. made false statistics; 2. imposed czechization of the area. If you'd like I can rewrite my statement: "it was an area inhabited by a very significant number of Poles, taken almost two decades earlier violently by Czechoslovakia in spite of an agreement concluded by local Polish and Czech authorities after the collapse of Austria-Hungary. Czech policy changed numbers of Poles and Czechs in favour of Czechs."
@strnadek01 Yep, but I think that the land was inhabited mostly by Poles, however I can't prove it because Czechs made the own statistics after the aggression against Polish Zaolzie in January 1919, so I changed my claim. It is unlikely that the number of Czechs and Poles changed so dramatically between 1910 and 1921 and even later. The Austrian authorities had no interest to make false statistics, the Czech had. I would like also notice that October '38 can't be compare with September '39.
@strnadek01 "Military action" is better as "invasion". Czechs in 1938 agreed to give Zaolzie to Poland. Indeed it's off-topical but important. I think that's not proper to compare October '38 and September '39 as it was made by permyak59 who claims that Germany and Poland made an alliance to divide Czechoslovakia. It is of course a lie. Czechoslovakia was sold to Hitler by the Western Powers. Poles reacted by entering to Zaolzie. It wasn't wise but it's not the same as Ribbetropp - Molotov Pact.
@1DonCarlos1 Your position is clear although strangely dual. You looks like your "cooleagues" from other side who says absolutely the same: that Latvian, Estonian and Lithuanian Governments "agreed" to Soviet "military action" in 1940... "I don't subscribe to this point of view".
@1DonCarlos1 Who says We Czechs "agreed?" It was polish agresion, just to make use of Munich agreement. And as for the agression in 1919. Sorry but so called 7days War in 1919 was started by Poles. The border was temporary set up in Paris, but Poles didn't respect that and set up votes to sejm in there and also sent military units to the region. That was violation of temporary agreement, so Czechoslowak army reacted to that.
Thanks 38602 for this important historical documentary that explains how so many people shed their blood and fought to death so us, young generations can enjoy freedom, peace and prosperity and live in fantastically privileged times.
@brocalfur this is one of the few big mistakes of this interesting serie. eisenhower already promised stalin against the advice of churchill NOT to take berlin and even retreated from the area.. the west was in fact not against leaving the hard fighting to the red army and both sides were completely happy for their own reasons. but the soviet conquest of berlin was so unnecessarily wasteful in soviet lives due to the idiotic directives of stalin that this story is still being warmed up.
You know Britain kept on fighting even when cut off from the mainland and being bombed right? It wasnt soviet level casualties but they could've had a ceasefire, but they didnt because they were fighting to help Poland as an ally
