No disrepect to Rick Davis but what about Cragi Fielke - 29 for Sturt. I could never understand why he was never picked up by a VFL club and played 300 games. Super skills with pace and knew where the goals were! -
@1crozza Fielke's brother wasn't such a bad player either. Grantley won the premiership with Westies in 83, the 1985 Magarey Medal, Played 16 games for Collingwood in 87, 24 for Adelaide between 91-92 and a club record of 364 for West Adelaide between 79-96.
But Craig was also a very good player also and was unlucky not to make Sturt's losing GF side in 83.
Strange that this thrashing occurred on precisely the same day (June 18) that Fitzroy beat North in a top-of-the-table VFL clash by 150 points.
I am curious as to whether and when Rick Davies will be inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame. As an all-Australian skipper, he certainly has the credentials.
@Sturt16 it looks like the oval was all completly open back then. they have the bowls club now and playground etc. u can pretty much just get around only one half of the oval
@KaigenSausage Yeah I know man. To be honest I'm not a huge fan of the eastern side with the playground and stuff. It's too much like a local park not a football ground I wish we had a home ground like Richmond oval where it is open all around the ground
Superb footage here. I love Motley's casual pass to Davies when the Blues are kicking to the right of screen. Purchville you are an Unley legend for posting this!
i was there that day!!!..behind the northern goals!...

Thank you so much for the memories. Great to share with my child and show him how popular the SANFL was before the AFL.
