  • Hungry. Eager. Threatening. Accurate. Punchy.

  • 7 minutes long feels like 3. Classic.

  • bloody good !!!

  • thanks a lot, good to put on here

  • I bet Hugh watches this version himself and thinks 'yes, this was us at our best'.

  • Best video of the stranglers bets ever song.

  • OMG what a classic!!!!!! in the era of suz & banshees & Martha &muffins god I miss good music not the teeny bopper crap now !!!!

  • I fail to believe that people could dislike this.

  • AWESOME!

  • Magnificent

  • This was what the stanglers were all about !!!!! and there's not a band out there today who can ever fucking be compared to 'em !!!!

@ teshka 1 ....you've never fucking lived until you've seen the stranglers as they were , i've seen them live ever since 1979 and been a fan since 1976/7 up until hugh cornwell left ! ..... and since then they paled into insignificance !!! Sorry but I think you must be talking out the back of your ass !!!

  • This was what the stanglers were all about !!!!! and there's not a band out there today who can ever fucking be compared to 'em !!!!

  • ...coz they're gonna survive...

  • Raw fuzzy wonderful. The bunch of them high as kites, fu**in brilliant.

Thankyou for posting it Miss Giro.

  • long live the rats

  • this is the best footage of this song' well done giohiro' sometimes music comes together and when all the band are on top form they produce a classic performance' and this was one of those nights' brilliant' stranglers at their best' s1v

  • One of the best Keyboard solos of all time. A song I can never get bored of. There was no band like The Stranglers before and has definitely not been since. They were so ahead of there time. In fact, I think time still hasn't caught up, even after 30 years.

  • Wow this brings great memories when I lived in Germany and owned this album; Only punk that I ever liked as it was not primitive at all. Thanks for posting!

  • @greeneyesmexico I have seen this band so very many times! what a tune and what an era gone by!

  • class' stranglers at their rawest and best' cant think of a better song' complete sound' longl ive the stranglers'

  • i share daves birthday

  • Great track. Specially if you listen at night to it with the lights out and the bath-taps on to simulate the sewer. Thanks poster.

  • Sounds identical to the record.

  • I love this song to bits , but i,m not sure about this performance , lololol

  • Only two words "Dogs" and "Bollocks"

    Greatest song ever made

Now there is a big statement.

  • did you no on the album cover of ratus it has a clue of every album theres a raven people in black

    check it out

  • These guys are classic.

  • I mean for God's sake, Dave maintains his stance while that wind's ruining his hairstyle! Emerson would have stormed off!

  • These guys were the missing link between prog and punk. They were playing in pubs in London. Jet used to give Paul Cook drum tips. Joe Strummer said to Hugh he wanted a group like them. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE IS THESE GUYS COULD INSTRUMENTALLY LAYER A SONG AND KEEP IT TONGUE IN CHEEK LIKE NOBODY ELSE

  • Dave greenfield is self taught. And I put this out there; I play myself and live, Greenfield displays greater and more diverse playing abilities than Jon Lord. Wakeman's a fan of the Stranglers. 'I ask you do you know why' Well' its because so many pseudo-experts were dismissive of this era! Did you know that the Madness pianist was classically trained? Jon Lord wasn't.

  • best band of the past 40 yrs!

  • yea good shit alright, same as black sabbath, led zep, pink floyd, metallica, head like a hole[nz band]ect ect,and fuck all that sell out bullshit.people change over time and also who wouldnt want to make it big, make money ect.

  • HLAH , yeah.

  • This is the Song that stiuck to me," live."..

    (Being 12,, 1981, Amsterdam Squats, ...

    Great!

  • AWESOME

  • fucking brilliant keyboard sound, these guys rocked

  • yeah they did

  • brilliant

  • Takes me back..saw 'em in 1979 Meninblack tour..Manchester Apollo..great!!my first 'proper' gig!!

  • so f* good, but why had they become so f* commercial later?

  • heroine is expensive

  • The best by THE BEST

  • Epic

  • the surfing stranglers

    great !

  • What a riff - what a band modern bands cant begin to touch The talent and creativity of this band, its all so fucking " Twee" these days..WHERE IS THE BOLLOCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @wildenfree wer beeein feeed it now man all this crap stranglers made music in the 70s ok via the doors

  • what a song. deffas me favourite off rattus

  • all i want to know is this simple question.???where is this bands CRED ????? lost in the catergory of ballsy bastards. well that fuckin suits me. strangs dont give one. they r still gigin. golden .

  • theyve got sharp teeth, deep breath, you can see the whites in there eyesssssss, i see you down in the SEWER, STRANGLERS IV

  • The men in black rules !...in Paris ! (Raven tour 1979)...nice gig !

  • Great song and players and style-From Rattus

    Norvegicus,the first album and I agree,its a

    Prog punk number,jm.

  • The Stranglers were awesome. Saw them around 4-5 times in NYC in the late 70's. Hope they reform for a reunion tour.

Saw Cornwell at the Bender Theatre a couple of weeks ago in NYC. He was great but could use a keyboard for Strangler sounds.

  • what a tune! the under rated anthem of the seventies. and still sounds so fresh compared to all the other shite of today.

  • This band never got the recognition they deserved. I mean, has there ever been a band like them? Their style is impossible to pin down, from sleazy and menacing German-detective-series- themes to beautiful baroque pop and dreamy jams.

  • I think there is a bit of "the Doors" in there too

  • Fantastic! One of the coolest songs ever by a bloody great band! Saw them recently; they still rock, but not as much as they did with Hugh!

  • dude who ever put this on youtube god bles ya

  • It seemed apt. In fact, it still does.

  • could anyone tell me the notes for the keyboard to this

  • Yes, one of them is definitely 'A'

  • the black ones and the white ones but i don't know what order... sorry

  • jj bass solo is great what a song

  • I really hope so.. but it sounds difficult,he didn't get the recognition then when they were famous.. still he deserves to be considered one of the greatest keyboard players of all times.

  • Dave is one of my all-time favourite keyboard players !

  • Ha,the real stranglers very tuching.

  • Brilliant, my fav song by the best band ever. Hugh was oiriginal, but anyone who has not seen them with Baz Warne will not be disappointed.

  • Sounds prity fuckin specktacular when on amly nitrate!!!!

  • they really should have split up once hugh left, the singer they got in to replace him was awful but i must i like suite 16

  • Hugh, JJ, Jet and Dave have very much skills as musicians. One of my favourite bands ever.

Love them and their works until 1990 (when Hugh left the band).

Simply wonderful! Thanks for posting :X

  • They were at their best back then sharp and still punkyish I still prefer the swagger.

  • Punky-ish? attitude maybe, but this song is pure prog-rock most of the time - especially the solo-ing towards the end. Still love it though :-)

  • Great stuff. Although this is off an earlier LP (Rattus), The Raven is a masterpiece !!!

  • Hugh Cornwell class and WAS the Stranglers, and Baz, Daz whoever??? lol

  • Hugh Cornwell is a traitor for jumping ship. I thank Baz Warne for doing a decent job. See you all at the Roundhouse 4/11/2007

  • Hugh's a traitor? Bloody hell, it's not as though he defected to the Nazis is it?

Although to be fair I wish he'd get back with the Stranglers because they're nowhere near as good without him in my opinion.

  • @Baronvon Hugh was a great Strangler but in my opinion they are better today than they have ever been. Not a fashionable point of view but true methinks.

  • nassierkhan: Hugh felt the band for his divergences with JJ (and The Stranglers died IMO).

  • excellent ! I don't think it has gotten any better than that ever since...

  • Love the way that hugh never bothered to tidy his guitar strings

  • Dave must be God.. the organ is glorious in this.

  • Great clip, but why does Hugh's guitar sound so strange?

  • Amazing ! Truly awesome band and never seen them so animated and in the crowd !

  • Brilliant vid - shame the ending's cut off

  • wish someone would put the full version out on a bittorrent site

  • Someone turn the organ up at the end. There is real thunder in this. A very polite audience - I saw them many times and can't ever remeber them going into the audience.

  • this one really kicks ass. it captures their totally unique menacing beauty. fucking amazing version.

  • excellent!
