This video is a damn joke. Final Cut Pro is outdated now. Premiere is WAY faster and is much more compatible with many more camera formats and video workflows. It also has great integration with After Effects and Nuke. Adobe also cares about their customers and aren't controlling freaks like apple so they continue to update and change their software.
the reason why production premium is more expensive is that it comes with the after effects and photoshop. there is nothing like this in final cit studio. stop saying that if you like premiere pro you can't be a professional editor, when you obviously not a pro editor as you don't compare any of the features to do with editing. im am a mac user but i don't go around saying everything else on the market is crap.
Reaction: Final cut and Adobe Premier are both great piece of software. Just because you are a mac user doesn't mean that programs on windows are crappy. applman2 is right, don't criticize these programs since you're not even a pro video editor.

@mobilemig Hmm... as a dinosaur I remember that fcp was the first editor to use H.264 but for exporting only. H264 is not ever for editing, it is just that premiere uses a proxy system to edit Mpeg4 codecs while fcp doesn't, so it seems to not support editing it. Well, though trans-coding takes awhile, it gives far better i.q. retention, color correcting holds up better, and because it is not i dependent it is much more stable.
i think with the abundance of pirating the issue of price is null and the decision should be based more on workflow.. which is what i was looking for in the video 3/4 thru the thing and still talking about price

Loved FCP 7, but X is rubbish I'm afraid. I did try but there's no way i can work with "X", Apple has dropped the ball big time. I do agree that FCP 7 was much better than Premeire CS4, but things have changed.
Premiere now has V5.5 which is stunning - try it.
Colour was a good software, but Apple dropped it when X was forced on us.

I do this for a living, when I started working for a boss I had to use Premiere, whilst at home I'm using FCP! Now I really gave premiere a chance and tried to get the best results. I'll cut to the chase. My biggest problem is when using the the same workflow to get a HQ export as with FCP. Working with movs I just dont get the same quality export! I understand PC is not really compatible with Quicktime...And it really shows!!! The compressed export is not nearly as smooth as from FCP!
for the pricing, why dont you compare the price of getting a mac and a pc of the same hardware? Mac cost 30%-50% more! lol, if you buy premiere, it's not just premiere you're getting, you get Encore (powerful dvd software), Encoder (powerful queing & encoding softw) and onlocation (a tool which allows you to setup your camera and set color live on camera). and as far as i know, FCP doesnt have a good real-time rendering system as APP has
for me being able to edit and sync up to 16 clips using the multi clip feature in FCP7 is unmatched by anything else out there. Premiere Pro has some great features, mainly its integration with After Effects, but I do a decent amount of music videos with anywhere from 8 to 16 clips on average and you just cant do it as easily with anything other app out there. If you have a PC and not a Mac then Premiere is a no brainer, but with a Mac use can run both.. cant be mad at that!
I'm a Windows user and i have to say that the Final Cut Pro is a slightly better software. Also, no offence intended at the Adobe producta because they're amazing in my opinion. But in thes case the Final Cut Pro is better. And for all you guys out there who are obssesseb with money. Price doesn't matter that much in this case.

FCP is great but in reality all big NLEs do some things better than others. FCP pro res, Color are awesome. Motion is easier to learn than AE. Adobe SC5.5 has great aspects to it including Photoshop extended, AE, Premiere was created by those that created FCP, Avid is the real industry standard unfortunately it does not come in a suite.

Plus, he rambles about price, when it's pretty fair IMO. Sure Color is great, but AE blows motion out of the water. And everyone needs PS regardless, so the bundled prices seem very reasonable to me. I'm debating switching to CS5 due to the Mercury and Cuda hardware acceleration. Back to searching for useful reviews.

@animedaiskii that might be because your project settings don't match your source material. I started with Sony Vegas and it's a good editing software, so I don't want it to seem like I'm slating it - I switched to FCP around three years ago... seriously once you get proficient with Final Cut you won't look back. Plus there's the rest of the studio...If you get the chance to use FCS I'd say go for it.
Have you used CS5? FCP is lacking what CS5 is doing. Also CS5 is more of the leading software. Just because you own a MAC doesn't mean you can just jump on one side, your judgement isn't very good. Also CS5 can do REDnative unlike what FCP.
I am a Final Cut Pro user but also feel that Premiere is great as well. This video is such a joke. Improve your video editing skills before you comment on pro editing programs. Stick with your $99 screen flow. Also go watch "The Social Network" made completely on Adobe Video Suite. Also Avid is much more expensive that both of these and is also an industry standard standard. Should people not use it because of it's cost? Think before you speak.
@applman2 Actually, the "Social Network" was made on Apple's Final Cut Studio, edited on Final Cut Pro 7. Premiere is very rarely used in Hollywood Productions, Avid holds that title. Final Cut is used for some Hollywood movies as well as many television shows.
Funny, you should have done this "analysis" when shopping for a computer, I saved over two grand building a PC vs. buying a mac, and the components are so good that apple doesn't even offer a computer that matches it's speed or quality. Add that to the fact that I got CS5 for $350 because I am a student and the student discounts offered at apple are laughable I would say that you're a hick that hasn't done his homework.

I'm on this years macbook pro, and so far I think I've spent more time rendering than editing. Also, comparing Final Cut Pro Studio in comparison to CS5 Suite is just about the most retarded comparison I've ever heard of. In CS5 you can do WAY WAY WAY more than video editing. CS5 makes about seventeen different fulltime occupations, while FCP Suite just is for video editors.
i use a mac pro 8 core and use both pr and fc and prefer premiere pro over final cut any day. i love how ae, pr, ps, ai are intergrated and i take total advantage of this. the interface is beautiful and smooth. BUT i do you color to grade...
Well, I find it ironic that Final Cut is an application that was started by Macromedia, a company that was bought out by, and is largely now Adobe. Irrelevant argument, AppleFanboy.
I bought the CS5 master collection for around $3500 AUD, I actually only use Soundbooth, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop but I have never been happier with a creative suite. The mercury playback engine for nVidia CUDA is just amazing and the interface is just so operational. It literally does everything. If you a real designer, this is what you will buy.
If you're in the business you're either using an avid product or using final cut pro. I'm not going to say FCP is the dead on best out there because it's not, but premiere isn't coming close to FCP maybe by CS6 or 7 but not now. For $999 you get more than what you're going to be paying for premiere. I'm eventually going back to school and fell in love with film, so obviously I'm investing in Final Cut Suite and a Mac Pro. Anyone have tips on getting top $ for a HP Z800? and a Dell 3008WFP?
As much of an Apple fan as I am, I even must admit it all comes down to preference. I know CS5 makes use of multi-core processors. The latest FCP doesn't, which I hope changes soon. I much more prefer FCP over Premiere because it's what I'm used to. If all I've known is Premiere, I'd probably stick with Premiere. But to me FCP workflow is much better from what I've experienced. I do wished Apple would quit focusing so much on the iPod and iPad crap and get back on track with their pro aps.
It makes it look good to get an imac with FCP since it is cheaper than a PC of same speed with CS5. Have to do without AE but for event videography I haven't found a better starting point. Just my opinion from research....

This is ridiculous. To get the advantages though which After Effects provides you, you would need to have Nuke or Shake. Which is additional cost. You cant suggest that After effects provides what you need but, lets pretend it's not even there...because its more money. By getting AE, photoshop, etc, 's its more bang for your buck.
We use both Premier and FCP in work, and this is the a poor comparison.
i got macbookpro 15 inches i7 (2010) . i paid around $2500 with apple care .
it was an awful experience. the first time i got it at Apple store in South Coast Plaze ( OC) . the screen had flicker, they replace with a new one. i was not happly with the hard drive's speed , i returned with no restock fee. i had to order online for another macbookpro same model with higher rpm which was 7200. it did not solve my problem. Mbp i7(2010) cannot beat my custom build intel Q6600 ( i had 2 year Ago.
It's all a matter of preference. When it comes down to it when you are in a professional environment you need whatever tools that make you look good and help you perform at your best for your clientele.
I am a FCP user myself but I have both products. I only got the Adobe suite for After Effects (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash) which IS in a league of it's own.

I thought this was between Premiere Pro and FCP. all he did was say FCP was better and talk about color. If you compare FCS to the Adobe CS5 suite... Adobe kills FCS. And when talking about the prices of the two suites you forgot to mention that the Production Premium suite from Adobe includes Photoshop, Flash, and Illustrator as well as Premiere and After Effects. And most video production studios use Photoshop. You're actually saving money by not having to buy FCS and Photoshop separately.

Well keep in mind that with Adobe's suit you also get Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash. When it comes down to just video editing, I have no doubt that the Final Cut suit is better with all of it's features such as Color, but the extra $700 for the Adobe suit gets you more state-of-the-art applications, such as mentioned.

I just installed Premiere CS5.... try and tell me Premiere is cluncky now. I can play many layers of HDV native footage, put effects on, cross dissolve it, and render it completely smoothly and fluidly.

I use Final Cut Studio, but did Apple know what is a Blu-Ray Technology is? That's the fucking problem with Final Cut Studio. Adobe is already with a second generation with Blu-Ray and Final Cut Studio is still like a dick of a dog, always behind.
Final Cut Pro is an industry standard application, but not the only application used in the industry. Personally, Final Cut Pro is the one I use, and it works well for me.
You didn't do much comparing of the two apps. You just spent half of the video repeating the price difference over and over again. It was like you were just trying to fill time. I think you should have actually compared features between the two apps to back up your argument that Final Cut is better than Premiere.
Honestly if you want to compare Adobe Vs. Final cut, then you should be omparing Adobe After Effects Vs. Final Cut Studio. This is because although premier is a great editor, it is still more on the "consumer" side. It seems like you want to compare 2 pro systems and Premier is not it. I use Final Cut Studio and there are a ton of things I think it does better than After Effects. however to each their own. both software suites are used to make movies. No fair to put Premier against FCP!

Now, I'm using Avid Media Composer. It's not better than Final Cut Pro but it's so good.
I think that Premiere Pro is not the first choice for professional editing. No, sorry, Ppro isn't too stable, and haven't too options for trim or multicam.

up to 2000 on a mac then spend 999 on final cut making 3000
a pc with more power than any mac under 600 with premier being 1700 (tho after effect is a better way to go about it ) makes 2300 saving of 700 pluse a adobe has a better gui (my oppinion )

Premiere Pro has some great features, mainly its integration with After Effects, but I do a decent amount of music videos with anywhere from 8 to 16 clips on average and you just cant do it as easily with anything other app out there. If you have a PC and not a Mac then Premiere is a no brainer, but with a Mac use can run both.. cant be mad at that!

With Windows you don't have choice but to go with Premiere.
Yes, if you are a Mac user, you can chose either FCP or Premiere.
Mac is usually more expensive than Windows. Cheaper FCP price offsets there.
For professionals, price difference of a few hundred dollars doesn't really matter
coz you make money with your software, do tax offsets, claim in expenses.
it all comes down to what software you are comfortable with.

But in thes case the Final Cut Pro is better. And for all you guys out there who are obssesseb with money. Price doesn't matter that much in this case.

FCP is great but in reality all big NLEs do some things better than others. FCP pro res, Color are awesome. Motion is easier to learn than AE. Adobe SC5.5 has great aspects to it including Photoshop extended, AE, Premiere was created by those that created FCP, Avid is the real industry standard unfortunately it does not come in a suite.

I was searching for a useful review on CS5 and FCP. This was a redneck reading pamphlets.
Plus, he rambles about price, when it's pretty fair IMO. Sure Color is great, but AE blows motion out of the water. And everyone needs PS regardless, so the bundled prices seem very reasonable to me. I'm debating switching to CS5 due to the Mercury and Cuda hardware acceleration. Back to searching for useful reviews.

If your serious editor, buy Autodesk smoke. That can do it all, and it cost 17000 dollars.
I think you need a wall ram to run it, you must have 12 gb ram or more.

I started with Sony Vegas and it's a good editing software, so I don't want it to seem like I'm slating it - I switched to FCP around three years ago... seriously once you get proficient with Final Cut you won't look back. Plus there's the rest of the studio...If you get the chance to use FCS I'd say go for it.

Have you used CS5? FCP is lacking what CS5 is doing. Also CS5 is more of the leading software. Just because you own a MAC doesn't mean you can just jump on one side, your judgement isn't very good. Also CS5 can do REDnative unlike what FCP.

I am a Final Cut Pro user but also feel that Premiere is great as well. This video is such a joke. Improve your video editing skills before you comment on pro editing programs. Stick with your $99 screen flow. Also go watch "The Social Network" made completely on Adobe Video Suite. Also Avid is much more expensive that both of these and is also an industry standard standard. Should people not use it because of it's cost? Think before you speak.

@applman2 Actually, the "Social Network" was made on Apple's Final Cut Studio, edited on Final Cut Pro 7. Premiere is very rarely used in Hollywood Productions, Avid holds that title. Final Cut is used for some Hollywood movies as well as many television shows.

Funny, you should have done this "analysis" when shopping for a computer, I saved over two grand building a PC vs. buying a mac, and the components are so good that apple doesn't even offer a computer that matches it's speed or quality. Add that to the fact that I got CS5 for $350 because I am a student and the student discounts offered at apple are laughable I would say that you're a hick that hasn't done his homework.

I'm on this years macbook pro, and so far I think I've spent more time rendering than editing. Also, comparing Final Cut Pro Studio in comparison to CS5 Suite is just about the most retarded comparison I've ever heard of. In CS5 you can do WAY WAY WAY more than video editing. CS5 makes about seventeen different fulltime occupations, while FCP Suite just is for video editors.

I bought the CS5 master collection for around $3500 AUD, I actually only use Soundbooth, After Effects, Premiere Pro, and Photoshop but I have never been happier with a creative suite. The mercury playback engine for nVidia CUDA is just amazing and the interface is just so operational. It literally does everything. If you a real designer, this is what you will buy.

If you're in the business you're either using an avid product or using final cut pro. I'm not going to say FCP is the dead on best out there because it's not, but premiere isn't coming close to FCP maybe by CS6 or 7 but not now. For $999 you get more than what you're going to be paying for premiere. I'm eventually going back to school and fell in love with film, so obviously I'm investing in Final Cut Suite and a Mac Pro. Anyone have tips on getting top $ for a HP Z800? and a Dell 3008WFP?

As much of an Apple fan as I am, I even must admit it all comes down to preference. I know CS5 makes use of multi-core processors. The latest FCP doesn't, which I hope changes soon. I much more prefer FCP over Premiere because it's what I'm used to. If all I've known is Premiere, I'd probably stick with Premiere. But to me FCP workflow is much better from what I've experienced. I do wished Apple would quit focusing so much on the iPod and iPad crap and get back on track with their pro aps.

It makes it look good to get an imac with FCP since it is cheaper than a PC of same speed with CS5. Have to do without AE but for event videography I haven't found a better starting point. Just my opinion from research....

This is ridiculous. To get the advantages though which After Effects provides you, you would need to have Nuke or Shake. Which is additional cost. You cant suggest that After effects provides what you need but, lets pretend it's not even there...because its more money. By getting AE, photoshop, etc, 's its more bang for your buck.
We use both Premier and FCP in work, and this is the a poor comparison.

another point I want to make . It would take me around 59 min to export a 10 min native Hdv on this macbookpro i7 2.66 4G of ram.
I can export a video a lot faster with my custom build pc ( intel Q6600 . i had it for 2 years)

i got macbookpro 15 inches i7 (2010) . i paid around $2500 with apple care .
it was an awful experience. the first time i got it at Apple store in South Coast Plaze ( OC) . the screen had flicker, they replace with a new one. i was not happly with the hard drive's speed , i returned with no restock fee. i had to order online for another macbookpro same model with higher rpm which was 7200. it did not solve my problem. Mbp i7(2010) cannot beat my custom build intel Q6600 ( i had 2 year Ago.

It's all a matter of preference. When it comes down to it when you are in a professional environment you need whatever tools that make you look good and help you perform at your best for your clientele.
I am a FCP user myself but I have both products. I only got the Adobe suite for After Effects (Photoshop, Illustrator, Dreamweaver and Flash) which IS in a league of it's own.
I may do my own comparison video and I will try to remain unbiased.

I thought this was between Premiere Pro and FCP. all he did was say FCP was better and talk about color. If you compare FCS to the Adobe CS5 suite... Adobe kills FCS. And when talking about the prices of the two suites you forgot to mention that the Production Premium suite from Adobe includes Photoshop, Flash, and Illustrator as well as Premiere and After Effects. And most video production studios use Photoshop. You're actually saving money by not having to buy FCS and Photoshop separately.

both are very good programs. i use both on my mac pro. and in all honesty it depends on the person. you did a half decent comparison but you compared pp to final cut studio. if you compared suit to suit adobe wins no questions asked. final cut studio is video only, adobe production premium has phototshop, illustrator, flash, premiere, encore, aftereffects, and onlocation. you mean well with your opinion. but back it up with evidence why you think final cut is better then premiere.

Well keep in mind that with Adobe's suit you also get Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash. When it comes down to just video editing, I have no doubt that the Final Cut suit is better with all of it's features such as Color, but the extra $700 for the Adobe suit gets you more state-of-the-art applications, such as mentioned.

I just installed Premiere CS5.... try and tell me Premiere is cluncky now. I can play many layers of HDV native footage, put effects on, cross dissolve it, and render it completely smoothly and fluidly.
I'm sure FCP is awesome, but now with premiere being able to edit such hefty footage like no other NLE can, there's certainly a reason to get Adobe.

Final Cut Pro is an industry standard application, but not the only application used in the industry. Personally, Final Cut Pro is the one I use, and it works well for me.
You didn't do much comparing of the two apps. You just spent half of the video repeating the price difference over and over again. It was like you were just trying to fill time. I think you should have actually compared features between the two apps to back up your argument that Final Cut is better than Premiere.

Honestly if you want to compare Adobe Vs. Final cut, then you should be omparing Adobe After Effects Vs. Final Cut Studio. This is because although premier is a great editor, it is still more on the "consumer" side. It seems like you want to compare 2 pro systems and Premier is not it. I use Final Cut Studio and there are a ton of things I think it does better than After Effects. however to each their own. both software suites are used to make movies. No fair to put Premier against FCP!

Now, I'm using Avid Media Composer. It's not better than Final Cut Pro but it's so good.
I think that Premiere Pro is not the first choice for professional editing. No, sorry, Ppro isn't too stable, and haven't too options for trim or multicam.
My favorite stay FCP. But Avid is so good !

up to 2000 on a mac then spend 999 on final cut making 3000
a pc with more power than any mac under 600 with premier being 1700 (tho after effect is a better way to go about it ) makes 2300 saving of 700 pluse a adobe has a better gui (my oppinion )
