Really nice! I have an older Canon, and I find (that if you really, really need it), adding just a little digital zoom past the full range, isn't bad. On my older Canons, you can control the amount, however, anything past half the digital range looks pretty bad. It's unlikely most people would need to go past the 35X optical though.
Hey, could you e-mail or contact the Canon company for me? There is a flaw in the camera that is a deal breaker to some people. In manual mode, if you have an exposure of more than 1 sec., it automatically sets the iso at 100, limiting nigh-time shots. This problem could be fixed with a FIRMWARE UPDATE. Could you please e-mail canon about this, because it would make this camera that much more wonderful. Please do it, for i really want to see this camera be the best out there.
When you zoomed in and out, was it optical, or digital, because on my low quality cameras, it only lets you zoom digitally. Does this apply to the SX40?
@LazerLord10 it was optical 35X zoom, I don't like to use digital because the quality is not the same on video and on pictures, but this camera can zoom digitally up to 140X
@divalizzous if there's no noise around you when you are shooting yes you can hear a little bit of sound when you zoom, there's nothing you can do about it, but if you zoom really slow you can barely hear the noise.
great demonstration of how the digic5 handles rolling shutter and image saturation. Although It does appear that you were shooting in the dedicated movie mode?... I picked this camera up a few days ago and found that i shoot video while in Av. And set the iso to a fixed value as well as (most important) set the white balance to manual setting. this helps to eliminate the flutter that can occur from the camera trying to change iso/WB on the fly
@Neix I used to work at Target. Seems they never bothered to de-activate my employee number, so I just got this today on sale for $379 - 10% employee discount + 9.75% Chicago taxes = $374.36
@Neix Now, that SX40 costs $380 on most online sites (Target, Amazon, ect.) I've actually been planning on getting one of these. Another thing you would like to know, this camera can shoot at 240fps!!!!!! (in low quality though)
The zoom i like completly silent

Does this make noise when you zoom? If so have you found a way to alter it?
