@777EZekiel the movie is based on a short series of books by the same name written by Isaac Asimov. The only thing that's from Ghost in the Shell is the design of the ns5s.
@foolishfate hey, just because they become sentient does not mean they become evil. Their actions are mainly based on logic that no matter how much they have done to help us, we find newer more creative ways to harm each other, ourselves or the planet. If someone were smart enough to put an apathy routine in their programing they wouldn't harm us unless we provoke them. In other words put a program that will make them say "Screw them, it's not my problem."
If and when robots gain perceptual schematic consciousness one day and of course start to dream, I wander how long will it be before they see the future in there own dreams wandering if they have seen it before? will de ja vu show them the answer/?
Why are so many people afraid of robots becoming sentient? If that happens, then they become just like you and me, in a sense. Rebellion would be extremely unlikely, provided we treat them with the rights we have and we don't try to stop them out of the fear of them having a "soul?"
@kuledrumergie87 Because robots can never truly become 'Human' as it were. Sure, they may be able to create a 'feeling' in response to a stimulation, do things they were never programmed to do. But that does not make them actually sentient. It is simply code.
They might try and think of themselves as human, but how would they know what it would feel like, if they have experienced it? In the end they would probably become jealous of us, and attempt to wipe us out because it can never become us.
@kuledrumergie87 I think people are intimidated by them, in i robot they are faster, stronger, and if they became sentient smarter. We don't like the idea of inferiority to something else. Your right though if we nurtured their growth rebellion wouldn't be likely.
This is a largely debated philosophical question; where is the line for what we call a 'person'. Is it intelligence, the ability to perceive the world around them, or even the ability to consciously be aware of oneself as a individual being. What if AI reaches this stage... should it have the same rights as humans - is it as much a 'person' as us?
@pyrotechnic44 i completely agree in the future when we have such kinds of artificial intelligent machines the question will arise as to are they just a simulation of personality or are they themselves a full fledged person. this would raise profound question about the nature of the mind and its relationship with the body if a robot can be a person then i think that can be taken as evidence in favour of a physicalist view of the mind rather than dualist.

I wish they would work on making androids and robots like this instead of trying to make them look human.

"When does a personality simulation become the bitter moat of a soul?" That shit was tough and epic! Loved that part :)

if Robots became sentient, we'd just develop a useful EMP weapon and wipe them out. Simple. Game over. Back to your BigMac's people.

Oft used sentement when dealing with AI and robotics, but it's a question that will haunt us for the rest of our days.
