  • can prescription retin A be used on the areas around the eyes? like the upper and lower eyelids to fade the fine lines? if yes does it have to be mixed with something else like a moisturizer or an eye cream?

  • I really appreciate this video. I went to a dermatologist for retin-a and they kept selling me retinols from skinmedica. What is frustrating is the hard sale they give me and have told me numerous times that retinol is much better than retin-a. I've now switched doctors and am switching to one who will give me the products I need (I'm almost 50) and not try to push me towards products because they are making a commission. Thanks again!

  • hi, i have a question, i have hyperpigmentation (from acne) and i was wondering, would retin-a or glycolic acid be more effective at lightening them?

  • thank you for making these helpful videos!

  • Thanks for another informative video! I was wondering if the brand name Retin-A is any different from the generic Tretinoin. Thanks so much :)

  • can retin a be used under the eye?

  • Does retin a help reduce under eye wrinkles?

  • @WafaaAkmal

I've read it does, go and see what people say about retin-a on makeupalley.

  • Hello , can Retin A and glicolic acid 10% and also Vitamine C be use together or alternative nitghs??? thank you

  • there are however studies showing that a meaningful amount of retinoic acid reaches the skin when using strong retinaldehyde products. The research is not as extensive compared to that done on retin-a

  • Oh, got it... thanks!

  • Hello Doctor. I recently purchased a system which uses both Benzoyl Peroxide (they say to use this in the morning) and Retinol (to use at night) to treat my acne. I was just wondering if you could explain to me how and if this combination of products works, if you know? Thank you.

  • i know that retina should not be used under the eyes but i do mix a little bit in with my eye cream once a week because i know it can be harsh on that area. Am i causing more harm than good?

  • Great advice! thank you

  • Are there any OTC products with wrinkle improving/preventing ingredients that we should look for (other than sunscreen of course!)

  • Great thanks

  • what is the difference betwen Retinol and Retinal and Retinaldehyde. Can i use Retinaldehyde for scars?

  • Another thumbs up from me!!! Your honesty is amazing! Thanks for bringing light onto all of that commercial bla, bla!

  • hello I am using Retin A 0.05% under and around my eyes, for a rejuvenating effect. However, I have seen that it thinned my skin. My friends say that first it gets thinner then it gets thicker. Could you please tell me if it is okay to use it around the eye area? Thanks a lot

  • @mephistophelico Retin A can be safely used below and next to the eye. It thins the top, dead layer of skin, but thickens the healthy skin. In removing the dead layer, the skin can look more translucent.

  • thank you for these videos. I use 0.5% Retin A all over my body because I have keratosis pilaris. Is it risky to use it on large areas of the body? I am from a country where I don't need prescription. I literally use a TUBE of Retin A per day because I use it for keratosis and stretch marks. So, my skin is absorbing a lot of Retin A, and I was wondering what are the risks.

  • @josephineratzinger The most important risk of that much Retin A would be birth defects if you use Retin A while you are pregnant (if you are a woman), which one should never do. Otherwise, I am not aware of the absorption of Retin A being problematic. However, my recommendation for KP is glycolic exfoliants, not retinoids.

  • @josephineratzinger Hi! I would like to know where are you from? I would like to buy Retin A but I need prescription. Thanks

  • this is really helpful, all your videos are. thank you Dr. Schultz

  • is Isotretinoin a retin- A?? i've been taking it under the guidance of my dermatologist..?? does it really remove black heads and acne??

  • @NextSuperstar88 No. Tretinoin is Retin-A. Isotretinoin is actually Accutane. It is approved for the treatment of sever, cystic, scarring, inflammatory acne. Blackheads are non-inflammatory acne. While isotretinoin stops new blackheads from forming, it does not remove old ones which either come out by themselves or can be removed by a dermatologist.

  • hi doctor.. actually i have read that the Retin A can be used also in the dark areas in body like (Acanthosis nigricans), can you please tell me your opinion about this

  • @SAROOONA77 Retin-A is an effective exfoliant and thus can thin and lighten thickened, darkened skin in Acanthosis Nigricans. However, Acanthosis Nigricans tends to occur in areas where skin rubs against skin (e.g., under arms). When Retin-A is used in areas like that, it's penetration is increased and therefore so is it's ability to cause irritation. Under those circumstances, it should be used very sparingly and gradually increased from use one time a week.

  • Retin A must be a cure all. It got rid of my acne fairly quickly.

  • Hi Dr Neil, Thank you for letting me know about your channel. I am an RN and I am a skin care junkie. I look forward to learning more from your channel and will go back and view all your postings. Can you comment on lazer treatments such as fractional and photofacial treatments.? I just spent a nice some of money and am having them done this summer. Each a series of 3. I found the photofacial a must for my Roscea. Gosh, I am happy I found you. Thanks for this information.

  • @CalicoCatMissPeachs: Thank you for your kind words! Fraxel laser treatment helps improve the texture of your skin (i.e., if you have scars or fine lines) while photofacials help with brown discoloration and broken (enlarged) capillaries that cause redness on your skin, especially in Rosacea. I will continue to cover cosmetic lasers in upcoming episodes, as well as Rosacea.

  • Is it safe to buy retin-a online?

  • @LissaFrutilla: All online purchases are subject to varying quality control depending upon whom you purchase from. Make sure you use a reputable source and in the US, keep in mind that Retin-A requires a doctor's prescription.

  • Thanks Doctor Schultz

Could you talk a little bit more about

Retin A and any side effects if you choose to use it.I got a prescription for some but never used it because I saw some information on the web.

  • @2mariebl: First and most important, never use Retin-A if you are pregnant (it can cause birth defects). Common side effects that can occur include, irritation, burning sensation, broken capillaries, and increased sun sensitivity. Use only under a doctor's guidance.

  • @2mariebl

    Thanks Doctor Schultz

  • this was awesome information...thanx so much...

  • Thanks Doc!

  • Thank you so much for this video! It's incredible how many companies try to fool consumers with 'miraculous' ingredients like retinol

  • Thank you for this valuable information Dr. Schultz! @/(*.*)\@

  • BRAVO.. for you to set the record straight!!!

You would not believe the products that sell on QVC and HSN...that boast "Retinol" in their skin care regime ..and try to rip us ladies off. I love you for mentioning this and I hope that women and men watch this video!!!
