Really nice pedal love the sound, mine looks just like this and im guessing it must be from the same era. Written inside on the curcuit board it says "hand built by guitar players" how cool is that?
Awesome sound. Man I love the 70s' guitar sound. My favorite sound from the 70s' was the old Blue Oyster Cult albums. I often wonder if buck used any type of pedals back in the day.
I would be glad to compare our amps, I have mine for about 9 years now and its the best marshall I've heard. Since I'm such a marshall freak.. I've heard alot of them over the years. I guess I just got lucky with this one sounding so sweet.
I've had one of those sitting in a box for half my life. I used to use it in the 70's. I remember it was good, not ratty sounding, but not really square wave muff distortion either.
It doesn't matter what year it is, as long as you get a script model. My 77 and 74 sounds 99% identical, the block model sounds a bit different and is also a great pedal.
I got it from Ebay. The company started making their line of pedals in 1974, the first script models with the bud box are from 74/75 and then they made their own boxes.
that's where I was looking, and also found them on ebay, but I notice they only have 1976 script models. :( I'll keep looking though, I really want that pedal. Thanks for your reply! :)
gosh that distortion sounds sweet! where did you get it? I didn't even know there was a 1974 distortion...just a 1974 phase 90. I think that rocks too.
I have only heard the distortion 3 on demos, no stores where I live have it. I do have the distortion+ from 74, 77 and 82, they all sound different, the 82 is more fuzzy and strong while the older script models are more creamy and soft. The difference is not very big between them. If you can find a script model then I think you should go for it, they are one of the best distortion pedals in my opinion. I also have never heard in RL the GT-OD pedal, probably worth a try.
I have just tried that, both channels linked and at volume 10. There are many settings with the MXR that will not give any feedback at all and work great and quiet, no extra noise when the pedal is on, unless you put too much volume, or too much distortion from the pedal. Either way after playing like this you will lose your hearing.
one thing thou man, is that, have u ever tried the mxr as a preamp booster to bosst the front end of a cranked marshall on 10 both linked channels before? is it quiet?see im looking for a boost to do that to my 1987x and all i get is uncontrolled feedback even though im plying. the uncotrolled FB overpowers my playing,.
That fx sounds better than any Boss distortion. And, better than any highgain solid state amp distortion I ever heard.

Essential on the Heavy Metal History

And Glenn/KK of Judas Priest used those pedals in the seventies. Even more essential and even better sound.
