It's actually about the 'Preppie Murder' by Robert Chambers. Chambers walked home from a local bar with Jennifer Levin after being dumped by his girlfriend, and raped/strangled her in Central Park. That's my theory, anyway.

@steave707 Dave worte Mr Brightside as early as 2001, then he gave a demo to Brandon on their first meeting, then Brandon added synth and worte the lyrics for the corus as Dave hadn't written any lyrics for the corus up until that point, Brandon tells that story before the performance of Mr Brightside on their "Live at Royal Albert Hall DVD" its on YT.

You hear the music (which comes with lyrics) and you feel the rush. Unfortunately, that means you're feeling a rush while you're listening to these lyrics- and there are people out here who may be on the edge already, who allow themselves to associate that rush with the LYRICS, which, remember, are the firsthand account of a guy committing murder.
