  • All you toasters slating her and get your arses up there and try and do it.

  • All you tosses

  • Top C was perfect

  • Great performance by the girl. This song is terrible though, "Taps" is a very special song to many people and should not be butchered in this fashion.

  • She does an excellent job of this version of taps. I like Il Silenzio also.

  • BRAVO!SUPERB!

  • I am ex Royal Marines. An old soldier. This rendition was lovely and well played. No, it is not Taps....nonetheless, it was kind of nice that a youngster can play this well. Per Mare, Per Terra to all you Royal Marines out there and Semper Fi to my American Cousins/US Marines. We shall never die...merely fade away. I will see you...all of you, one day on that big Parade Ground in the Sky. May God Bless you...each and every one of you as you listen to this........

  • @EggFarmerChris May God bless you also my friend. I served in the US Marines from '75 thru'79. My dad was in the USMC during Korea, my son Joshua was a Special Forces medic [ Green Beret ] with two

  • @EggFarmerChris tours in Iraq. My father in law, who passed away yesterday 06 Feb, at the age of 96, fought in the European Theatre during WWII. He was not a perfect man, but he was a GOOD man...I will see you also on the Great Parade Ground in the Sky one day and this former US Marine will buy you a pint and we can swap stories about how tough boot camp was..This young ladie's performance stirred my heart

  • There's not many that will be able to compare to this young lady she is talented but this is not taps

  • listen to all the experts ,lol, did you know what a trumpet was till you heard her.get a life.

  • shes excellent,as for the moron 988robbie what do you do play with your self.

  • this is fake. look at how shes holding the trumpet it looks like one arm is shorter than the other

  • vibrato sounds awkward. if she put her horn up, then maybe it wouldnt sound weird. i KNOW vibrato cuz i play trumpet, and violin.

  • Do all "experts" tend to sit, watch and wish they could do the same as their target?

  • ONE SONG YOU WILL NEVER STYLIZE IS TAPS. YOU CAN TRY IT WITH THE NATIONAL ANTHEM BUT THIS IS TOO MUCH.

  • @yanktheirsoxoff Very much so

  • this is so not fucking taps

  • @tdogusa99 @MultiDragonshark I know it's not, there's been many comments, most people that watch this (like veterans and soldiers) know it by Taps, I have Il Silenzio in the title o,o Cmd135 3 months ago

  • @Cmd135 No.. Us soldiers and veterans DO NOT know this by "Taps" just because the notes are similar.. So please do not call it "Taps" This is not what I want played over my final resting place..

  • @tdogusa99 Why do you have to use the f word you moron.

  • you fucking morons should just listen and stop the idiot remarks,do better or fuck off.

  • she needs to play with the teumpet up so you can here more of the sound she play s into the ground to much trumpets are directional instruments

  • is she playing on the side of her mouth

  • There is a You Tube named, "Taps The Bugler's Cry-The Origin of Sounding Taps", that is a very good historic account of where "Taps" comes from. Seems Il Silenzio may have come from Taps...

  • good job ps she's kinda hot!!

  • wtf guys top cutting unions... I FUCKING SERIOUS STOP IT!

  • Thanks for the vid, this is amazing.

  • thanks for this video

  • This is"Il Silenzio"an extended version of an ancient Italian military theme, played every evening, in short form, in Italian barracks as signal to turn off the lights in the dormitory . It's played in the extended version in commemoration ceremonies and is named "Il Silenzio fuori ordinanza"and is part of a strong military traditional Italian theme. The version played by Nini Rosso is the extended version that is "Il Silenzio fuori ordinanza" simply titled "Il Silenzio" for commercial reasons

  • @exnemocpt Thank you for posting this. I am an active Marine for 11 years. Anyone who has served in the U.S Military knows or should know this is where we get the "TAPS" we use here in the American Military. I hope you dont mind that I used your comment to reply to some misguided ones who have posted on here. Thank you once again. :-)

  • @NAVMAR16

Oh .. that's all right, I am honored if a valorous marine pays attention to my comment.

However it must be said that many things are moved from one culture to another and maybe go back yet developed, so sometimes it becomes very difficult to establish a provenance. But precisely for this reason, our cultures meet, merge and evolve together to give us more and more shared heritage.

For this reason we call it Western culture and for this reason the EU and U.S. are the West.

  • Fantastico! Bravo!

  • not real and sorry this is not TAPS! Just watch as she takes the horn away from her mouth. Nuf said

  • @jdmusic24 It most certainly is TAPS....and it is also...quite real....have seen this.......

  • @jdmusic24 @1wyotech Do your RESEARCH!!! This is where we get Taps from!! This is"Il Silenzio"an extended version of an ancient Italian military theme, played every evening, in short form, in Italian barracks as signal to turn off the lights in the dormitory . The first few notes is what your use to hearing. I know. Im a Marine.

  • @NAVMAR16 How could we get Taps from this song when Taps predates Il selenzio?

Il Selenzio was written in 1964 by Nini Rossi.

  • Found this whilst searching for solo trumpeters is is truly beautifully played and with such felling-I was in tears. Thanks from your latest UK fan.-airforce 1384

  • Yes it is not the true TAPS but wow Beautiful it is. And from such a young performer.... WOW

  • @Bailey564 Do your RESEARCH!!! This is where we get Taps from!! • @NAVMAR16 The American TAPS is much older than the Italian IL SILENZIO! It was infact taken from a tune played during the American Civil War during the 1860's!

  • magnifico

  • The piece is "Il Silenzio", a form of "Taps", but it is NOT the "Taps" of the American military. It sounds like taps because of the limited range available to a bugler. Most militaries have a bugle call used at lights out or at funerals. In the USA it is "Taps." 'Il Silenzio" is an Italian piece, I believe. It may come in part from pieces written before.

Melissa's embouchure, like most players, is an individual thing and probably the best thing for herself.

  • brilliant playing we used this when we buried my little brother K.I.A afganistan. there was not a dry eye in the cathedral even s a s thankyou for the sweet memory and dont stop playing your gift is for the world

    the sarge

  • @sarge225938 The world owes your Brother a debt of gratitude for his ultimate sacrifice. May God bless him and your family.

  • Great Job!! My 9 year old daughter just started playing the trumpet. She says she wants to play like you.

  • from an old navy man/ thanks

  • this is not taps

  • @MultiDragonshark I know it's not, there's been many comments, most people that watch this (like veterans and soldiers) know it by Taps, I have Il Silenzio in the title o,o

  • @Cmd135 vets and soldier s know the real taps not this

  • @MultiDragonshark no it's not.it's shit.

  • @MultiDragonshark this is taps you idiot...now show some respect for those who lost their lives!

  • @MultiDragonshark Would you rather he didn't call it Taps and no one sees it?

Without offering any additional information your post makes you seem like an ignorant, whiny loser. Have a nice day.

  • And while this is not TAPS it is IL SILENZIO it uses the 24 notes of TAPS as its base and builds from their. It still brings a chill to my spine

  • Grazie Ninì Rosso....questa musica ci permette di utilizzare quello che nessuno ci puó togliere...I Nostri Ricordi...

Comunque Melissa Venema é a dir poco Superlativa

  • awesome... ooohrah!

  • I was until just a month ago in the Swedish Air Force as light infantry... Every day, I'm grateful to all the american soldier, pilots, sailors and marines who have fought for the freedom and democracy inte the world.

Americans, even though you feel criticizes, you have us who believe in your cause! We owe you! ;)

  • @cooliosius - thank you. Your words are appreciated.

  • I can do much better

  • @snyperfan4live .... You aren't even a good troll.

  • @BIGMUDDYDOG Im the best :D

  • This is the best, I was in the military....this is by far...one of the best.....

  • Tears dropped from my eyes and I didn't even know they were there...Powerful...Fine performance

  • dont like the vibrato...not natural in any way!

  • @trumpetboy17

Well if ya want to be picky..... trumpets aren't natural in anyway either (unless your an elephant).

  • The conductor of the orchestra is Andre Rieu from Holland . The young lady, her trumpet and her rendition of TAPS makes your hair stand on end. Most of you may never have heard taps played in its entirety, for all of the men & women who have died for you so you would have the freedom you have in America . Melissa Venema, age 13, is the trumpet soloist. Here is Taps played in its entirety. Melissa Venema is playing it on a trumpet, whereby the original was played on a bugle.

  • @1776flag Taps is a bugle call consisting of 24 notes. What this wonderful artist is playing is il silencio or Fouri Ordinanza (out of service) played in Italian Camps at the end of the day. See Nino Rossi on youtube. LtC USA ret'd

  • @bigbob07087

Nice catch bigbob, this is a beautiful song, performed very well by this young lady. But it is NOT Taps..... I can hear why some might think so who are not acquainted with the sounding of Taps.

Semper Fi and thank you cooliosius for your kind words and your service to your country and the greater good.

  • Fabulous, absolutely fabulous, Every note hit mark,

How can I download this to present to my team>

  • absolutely amazing!!!!!!

  • What a set of lungs!

  • It is beautifully played, but it sounds like a composite of both "Taps" and the British "Last Post".

  • Ok..I have seen this posted as TAPS a few times here on You Tube.A brief history lesson for ya.TAPS was first adapted by Union General Daniel Butterfield for the 3rd bgde 1st dvn 5th U.S. Army corps. Army of the Potomac. It was written by brigade bugler Oliver Willcox Norton during the Peninsular campaign of 1862. TAPS was then quickly adapted by other union and confederate units. TAPS was made an official U.S. Military bugle call after the war. Il siliencio was written by Nino Rosso in 1965

  • WOW how old is she?

  • @ObamaKennedy2060 14-years old at the time of this performance. YouTube search "Melissa Venema" She is a world renowned trumpet player.

  • O.M.G.!!!

That High-C at the end is MAGNIFICENT!!!

  • Its a great sound but Honestly A little to much Vibrato. Of course this is taps but sometimes the Vibrato just gets a little to annoying

  • this is not Taps, nice sound but shes needs to center the horn properly on her lips

  • @dghdave This is Melissa Venema, a world renown trumpet player. She plays for audiences in many countries. She is considered one of the best for her age and even older more experienced players consider her better. And yet you want to tell her how to hold the instrument? Embouchure is personal to the artist and may be based on mouth shape or teeth shape or any number of things. I am sure that she is quite able to figure out what is best for herself.

  • Comment removed

  • @fryque how old is melissa, cause this is a beautiful piece

  • @dghdave ....she may not be able to center the horn on her lips.....I have partial bells palsy and can only blow out of one side of my mouth.....maybe, just maybe this is the only way she can make such beautiful music. I don't think it matters what side of her mouth the horn is on......her music is a blessing to all who hear it.

  • Her name is Melisa Venema.

There are several videos on YouTube if you search her name.

A truly magnificent young trumpet player.

  • does anyone know the girls name?

  • @radergarryfranz Milisa Venema, from Holland

  • With talent like this, why do we have to listen to losers such as Christina Aguliera sing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl?

  • No it is " Il Silenzio" I played it as a Solo in the solo and ensemble competition in 1970 in ElPaso and received a 1st Division it IS a nice recognized version of Taps while it was written as such this young lady did this very well

  • WHEN I HEAR THIS TAPS I WANT TO CRY....

  • I don't want to quarrel with anybody over this piece, or any other piece.

The history of music is chock full of songs made famous by artist #2 or #3 who played them, while the original arrangement went largely unnoticed.

Madonna and some of her hits are a prime example.

While I do acknowledge that TAPS as the US know it is a US military theme, US posters are kindly asked to acknowledge there is a Continent "Europe" where the military have been playing bugles & brass for the last 2500 years.

  • Very touching great job little lady

  • Who ever disliked this doesn't know what she went threw or anyone else. My grandpa died when I was 5 or 6. I didn't know him.

  • This gal does a great job on Taps.

  • Quite possibly the worst version of taps I've ever heard - even as a band member and former trumpet player . Taps is a reverent, solemn piece which is designed to be performed with dignity and honor - not a piece that you can add "literary license" to. While she a talented musician - she needs to leave taps to the professionals

  • This isnt taps. Civilians have no idea what is played on a bugle.

  • A lot of pedantic comentry about the origins, seem to have missed hw beautifully this was performed.

  • @Splynncrithe: you tell me "Please provide proof of the origins of Il Silenzio, i.e. Nini Rosso and Co's own words when asked. Otherwise it is just opinion."

You insist on Nini Rosso. He simply commercialized what was already a well known piece among the Italian military for decades.

You want proof? Are my own 31 years in the military, my father's 42 years, and another 3 generations before him, sufficient proof?

If you served in a European Army you would know every Nation has their own TAPS.

  • Bradleyerad, I think you're sadly mistaken. I find it hard that a military call which has been played since 1862 which originated from another bugle call written in 1835, actually came from some song written in 1965... Mayhaps you should bone up on your musical history before deciding to make a blatant statement as you did. Although you are correct that General Butterfield did have his bugler play it, the song it originated from was called "Scott Tattoo" not Il Silenzio...

  • Voices that we thought had fled well be replaced by the voices of the young who will arise and their shout will be heard world wide Yes we can !, Yes we will!.Take care ADonovan43

  • This is the British version of Taps, old as Britain itself.

R.I.P. to the soldiers, wherever they fell.

    Item IWSlZgTHNCY

  • As evidence of my previous post from a few minutes ago, please compare clips

    4qw6uHqWMjM or pMIFkwOGqq8 as opposed to Vsnuk4OUTtE.

    Best regards,

  • I can play it just like that. Me and my friend do a duet on this song. We made up the duet. Its pretty tight.

  • Einfach Wahnsinn , für mich Enspannung pur, danke dafür

  • Thanks. Il Silenzio - I always wanted to know the name of this.

  • einfach nur schön und für mich eben passend.... habe meine freundin verloren, vor genau einem jahr1

  • WHO EVER SAISD THE LAST COMMENT ON THIS PAGE

THAT IS THE WAY THE TAPS R PLAYED AND IF YOU DON'T LIKE

HOW IT SOUNDS THEN DO NOT POST ANYMORE COMMENTS PERIOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @ actually thats is not how the origional taps is played, just that version

  • The song is beautiful, the girl plays wonderfully (although her arms look skeletal thin. As for the taps bit. Not one piece of this song is taps although it sounds similar to it. Actually find and listen to Taps before trying to state that this has anything to do with it. Do not disrespect Taps as it is a time honored song played for the men and women in uniform for rest. Not only nightly rest, but to honor those being laid to rest.

  • Remembering 9-11

  • tres bien joue beau morçeeau

  • I think this little girl is a perfect demonstration of a princess. She is beautiful, humble throughout the applause, and clearly touches the hearts of listeners.

  • vraiment super

  • can't even play it right, screw you cmd because this isnt the REAL taps >: (

  • Folks, IL silenzio, is where taps came from, Taps was born from a few bars of it, Gen. Buterfield found it and decided that the slower part would make a good "Sleep well men for the area is safe." Kind of tune.

  • wtf dis aint no fuckin taps u ass whole u just direspected england america and soilders who died

  • callin this taps is disrespectful

  • she's amazing. Truly amazing

  • Yeah, this is not taps.

  • This beautifully played! What a talented young woman! I love that TAPS is a beautiful beginning to a beautiful song! Thank you for sharing it with us!

  • great performance..... beautiful.....

  • This is totally awesome!!!!!!!!! What a talented young lady. My dad served in the Marines during Korea,I missed Vietnam by a whisker [USMC]and my son was a Special Forces medic [ 3rdBn5th SFG] with two tours in Iraq. I am not ashamed to admit that I wept openly after enjoying this superb performance.A well deserved salute to all the guys [and gals]who gave up their tomorrows for our todays...Semper Fidelis !!

  • Kudos to you! You're an amazing player who must have started playing at an extremely young age. Truly amazing playing of II Silenzio!

  • Taps and Il Silenzio are not the same. Some people even confuse Taps with the Last Post. They are three different (although similar) pieces of music. Anyway, girl, your rendition is incredible, fantastic, keep playing, I love it

  • Taps ? This is "Il Silenzio" (the silence) composed by Nini Rosso inspired by "Silenzio fuori ordinanza" an Italian military theme.

  • I can't really say why,but I don't think she's playing it herself. Maybe because of her mouthpiece position or because it's Andre Rieu she's performing with...only playback in my opinion, but a very beautiful one.^^

  • Il Silenzio is an extension of Taps. From wikipedia:

Taps is a variation of an earlier bugle, the Scott Tattoo, used in the U.S. from 1835 until 1860, and was arranged in its present form in 1862 by the Union Army Brigadier General Daniel Butterfield, an American Civil War general.

Il Silenzio is an Italian pop music instrumental piece written in 1965 by trumpet player Nini Rosso and Guglielmo Brezza, its thematic melody being an extension of Taps.

  • She is amazing.I applaug you young miss.Even though you are not playing "Taps", you are still a young artist who plays beautifully.

  • I am very confused by this, and I see that others are. I am led to think that what we call, TAPS, must come from a larger piece of music, and must have been modified.

She does not repeat the first two bars, so that in the third repeat, the note ends high! She ends it low, and then it veers off completely. It is extremely lovely, though, and she is extraordinarily talented--all that air in those thin lungs!

  • that young man was his son, his son died while his father, heither of them knew it was each other, and his father found the piece of paper in his dead sons pocket. after being denied a full military honors burial he was granted one musician, that musician was the trumpet. That is how TAPS came to be born

  • first and foremost, this isnt taps, im on the honor guard, i would damn well know taps. secondly, taps never was more than a minute or so long, bcuz the young man who created taps died in the civil war. that young man was a confederate soldier who was majoring in music in a southern college, his father was a yankee colonel and god forbid, he discovered a young man moaning in pain in the dead of night during a firefight, crawled out to help him, drug him bak to his camp just to find out it was

  • I'm a retired Army MSG/E-8 and do not mind if the call it TAPS though it is properly named in the ( ). I would like to get it on a CD or flash drive so it can be shown at my Funeral when I die. I would be honored to know my kind of TAPS was to be played. No mater how she plays it comes out sounding wonderful. "OLD SARG"

  • She's...OK. 9th Grade level. And I've been playing 40 years.

  • This is similar to TAPS, but it is not TAPS. It is, however, very beautiful.

  • Afriend sent this to me in an email, i tried so hard to breathe as lightly as I could so as not to miss a note how wonderful to be so gifted.

  • This one hit home... The Department of Defense announced today the deaths of two airmen who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom. They died April 9 near Kandahar, Afghanistan, in a crash of a CV-22 Osprey. They were assigned to the 8th Special Operations Squadron, Hurlburt Field, Fla.

    Killed were:

Maj. Randell D. Voas, 43, of Lakeville, Minn.

Senior Master Sgt. James B. Lackey, 45, of Green Clove Springs, Fla.

  • @ubuibiok tis Easter tommorow, sad they will be in Green Cove Springs.

  • Beautiful and moving! This young lady needs to play something with Yo Yo Ma!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • wonder why she plays on the side of her mouth

  • she called Melissa Venema and is from the netherlands

  • Comment removed

  • wow.

  • she may not be playing taps and she may play out of the side of her mouth but that was god damn beautiful

  • I have watched this over and over again, she is truly magnificent, she had to have worked really hard to be able to perform such perfection. I rise and applaud you little lady. Excellent!

  • Beautifully done. Bravo, bravo! Nice to see the brilliant lights amongst the darkness.

  • pure talent young lady!!!!

  • wow i.. i.. i.. i don't have anything to say but wow

  • absolutely amazing!!!

i had to play the normal like 4 second version at m school on remembrance day and it seemed like a bi tof a challenge but she makes me realize how much i suck hahaha

  • i play trumpet but not so beautifull like this!

  • Wonderful, just superb!

  • While she plays beautifully, she isn't playing Taps. She's playing Il Silenzio, composed in 1965 by Nini Rosso and Guglielmo Brezza.

Taps was composed in 1862 by Gen. Butterfield during the American Civil War.

There is absolutely no connection between the two pieces.

  • Absolutly correct.

  • @biljopal There is a connection when they have similar sounds. Maybe not exact, but if so many people recognize the tune as taps, then there must be a connection. I think both songs are beautiful. I enjoy listening to both.

  • @biljopal & splinncrithe

Whereas you are both correct frmo a US Military point of view, you are also wrong from a musical point of view.

"Il Silenzio" is the Italian Military's equivalent to Taps, and is inspired from it.

What Nini Rosso &C. composed is a variant, known as "Il Silenzio Fuori Ordinanza" which is NEVER played at funerals, but is highly popular when a Company of enlisted celebrates the end of their military service.

Who am I to know? An Italian, to start with.

  • @lambdavi

Nini Rosso and Gugliemo Brezza may have found inspiration in the chilling piece which is known as TAPS. I have found proof that Il Silenzio is used in Italian Military functions, but it is not the Italians version of TAPS as it is not used the same. Taps is to the US as Last Post is to the Common Wealth. Please provide proof of the origins of Il Silenzio, i.e. Nini Rosso and Co's own words when asked. Otherwise it is just opinion.

  • @lambdavi While you may be right, every version of "Il Silenzio" that I've heard sounds exactly like ""Il Silenzio Fuori Ordinanza".

May I call your attention to MasterMessy here on YouTube: "Silenzio fuori ordinanza - Fanfara

    Il silenzio, in lutto.

Dedicato a tutti i caduti italiani, militari e non, civili compresi.

Tutti figli di un'unica bandiera La stessa che li piange con onore ed orgoglio.

In loro memoria, un saluto. Per non dimenticare."

Lots of military images in the video.

  • @biljopal the only connection i can hear is that rozzo and brezza stretched Taps... Same thing if you were to stretch a 30 minute episode to a two hour movie

  • @MendotaTech If you go to the "USA Military March Taps on Trumpet" on the right side of this page, you'll hear the U.S. Taps. Although there are similarities, what she's playing isn't a stretch of Taps.

  • @MendotaTech If you go to the "USA Military March Taps on Trumpet " on the right side of this page, you'll hear the U.S. Taps. While what she's playing has similarities, It's not a stretch of Taps.

  • @biljopal I stand corrected. Thank You! :)

  • @MendotaTech You're welcome. Have a great 2011!

  • @biljopal Except Taps is written in Il Silenzio.

  • man i wana learnit\

  • she needs to fix her ambochure ( i know i spelled that wrong)

  • true patriotic girl. you haters should be ashamed of ur selves!
