Well I could have used without the background BS. I'm most impressed that you can sit Indian fashion that long. But you are by far the best the clay pot player I seen.
This is incredible, but can you please put out a version without those weird slurping and dripping noises? Like seriously, what are those even doing there? They dont match the mood and it makes me embarrassed to show this to my friends. Let me know when a clean version comes out!
Who would've thought a bunch of weird looking clay pots and vases could make such amazing sounds? Marco''s got quite a sense of rhythm, it's interesting how the tempo shifts so smoothly and yet the music still sounds very fluid.
sr marcos no es hipnotic es subliminal ,su performance val la pena grabarlo con guturales, konga, djembe y flauta,de seguro crea dimensiones de belleza.
Ive been playing congos, bongs and now djembe since a long time. Just love precurssion and drumming world. These are very ancient drums from africa (nigeria) later used by latin music as well great artistry and great drumming i salute such artists all must watch
@numanuma20: I like udu drums (which you mistakingly call "pots") but this particular video is really boring. To me, anyway. I had to stop watching it because it was making me fall asleep. He is a good percussionist, though.
Great playing! The stereo mix seems a little strange though, since the panning is from the drummer's perspective, and most of the shots are opposite that.
@Mewsinghan There really isn't a difference technically between Ibo and Udu. The Udu originates from Nigeria where the word "Udu" translates to "pot." Traditionally, the Udu was used as a means for transporting water before it was discovered as a musical instrument.
In regards as to where Ibo comes from (as Meinl calls it), the Igbo people of Nigeria are most likely responsible discovering water pots as instruments, and that could be where Meinl draws that name from.
Hi @GatoreIsNotJuice, just for information the sounds you listen in background are all acoustic, recorded by me years ago for a different project. However I'm agree with you, the Udu sound is fantastic without any addiction!! Thanks for your comment, ciao Marco Fadda
@justinc18 Seems to me, although from very little experience, that many udu players use the tablas "phrasing" and techniques. I guess, because india has great rythm and if you're in to percussion it will interest you sooner or later.
I think these are far more complex than they look and sound.. the ancient time signatures that classical composers only dream of are what are played on these... they are brilliant, indigenous and anyone who masters them are probably musically and maybe mathematically brilliant in a sense.
His technique and rhythm are down but his ear for melody and tones needs work. The tones are flat. This is a bass instrument, though a drum it's use and theory is the same as a double bass, bass guitar and conga drums.
I like his technique though, just the notes need work.
fuck that man, are you joking? this is nothing like a double bass. congas, sort of. totally different originating cullture, and completely different intended sound. it's only the same in that different drums have different pitches. out of double bass, bass guitar, and congas, none of those ever carry the melody. bass guitar comes the closest just by not being a solely rhythmic instrument. saying his ear for tones was bad is fine, but you should have stopped there. you sound like a dumbass.
The dumb ass is the one who makes up words that were never used like you, BITCH. I said the theory is the same not the instrument, why don't you pay atention to what you read befor you say anything.
Congas are melodic istruments that's why they are ether played individually by mustiple drummers or in a set fo 2 or more by a single drummer. The same gos for the bougarabou, doon doon, and kpanlogo. Thees drums are not western tom toms. Thay are for rythm but also for the bass melody. Dumb ass.
@TriangleWitch My Udu's bass not is a natural A, and the closed hole not seems to be a D. I like to use these melodically. Agreed! However, out of all the Udus I have played, I also have to say i like the LP the least. They are overpriced clay pots with an LP stamp. While the Udongo is a neat idea, it falls over and won't stay in place and is very difficult to hold in ones lap.
I also am a conguero, so I know what congas sounds like. And they are tuned to a note. Which one depends on the size of the drum and the key of the song you are playing to.
Wow TriangleWitch looks like unclewedgie200 certainly hit the right tone with you...you went off big time, congratulations. Liked your content but your phrasing needs some work..
those are some great techniques. thanks for the influence. i wish i had ur udu set up though! i am still waiting on my Udu to make it through the Kiln! i cant wait
