  • @awaken77 since I get use to play in pianofeel keyaction I could never really go back to synth plastic toy keys.

  • clavia is really the best. but the the key action would be like Yamaha avantgrand N1 or Kawai MP 10. hope clavia buy the Kawai company and ad real piano keyaction to nordlead 4. i have made a channel anout digitalpiano and linked to everything you nned to know. like a video of Steinway hammer action how its works.

  • @casioPX500L To be perfectly honest I would hate anything but synth action on any synthesizer. While both synths and pianos have keys, they are played differently, and synths should never feel like pianos, semi-weighted is about as far as I'll go.

  • Nordlead 2 or 3 are fine to do everything !!!

  • was the ending song created just by nord 2x?

  • Sounds just like every other VA-synth. Like a simple waveform player with FM abilities. Is there some other synth which has more modulation abilities?

Something like waveform through 2 mods + comb and phasemod? Subosc would be great too.

  • i hear what you guys are saying about software vs hardware and digital vs analog

but I still dont know how to get a recording from a synth like this (especially one w/out a sequencer on board) onto a cd.

  • Hmmm.. nice synt with many knobbs for direct access.

But the sounds are not that "spectacular" as the PRIZE suggests..

    :-)

But not sure if the sound is "better" (in sense of fatter, brighter, cripser) then to use a midi controller for da knobbs and control with it some VST synth!

I never understood what the DIFFERNCE is.

Software is software. And modern PCs have big CPU power...

  • i hate you. (im jealous)

  • its a good synth but limited next to the virus ti

  • can you play classic piano with this?

  • @frankieutd no, it has only electro sounds. if you re searching 4 live sounds like piano, or strings or brasses the best choice is Yamaha motif xs series, but there are also other synths like roland juno and so on.

  • good

  • 3.26 Patch with bass and lead on the right.

On the lead I can hear a Delay... do you use any external effect?

  • Good song!

  • Dude these people act like they've never seen a synth.. It just a synth!! want some good pro music look for some orchesta on youtube..

    Nothing has happened to music

    so shut up

  • how much is this?

  • It's a demo of the synth, not of my skills! I'm not a show off.. you know one of those dudes who plays up and down the keyboard running through scales! Lame.. and sad! Who plays like that anymore? No one except concert pianists and your Mom because YouSuckBigTime . com! Eat it :)

  • haha. Awesome yout ell him. stupid patrick master BATEMAN can eat my D!ck.. better yet not mine someone elses from jail. covered in poo..

  • @theveg99 --- Okay, I have to say, listening to your song demo-ing the keyboard at the end, you Have some serious skills. Absolutely Fantastic composition and structuring!

  • @theveg99 lol u said it

  • Whatever happened to good mainstream music?

  • WHAT?!

  • @666patrickbateman666 Virgin. . .

  • I think there are some valuable mastering plugs available via VST that are worthwhile.

  • if think you didn't get my point...i love hardware and if i had the money, my whole house would be full of synths etc.

but, for getting started it's better to get a midi-keyboard and some free vstis to get started and to figure out how everything works...

i was actually only answering to the question if he would need a keyboard for using ableton live...and for ableton live you won't need a nord, an oberheim or a prophet.

  • @brietzmann I think if you're getting started, you should get a second hand DX7. With this thing you can learn something about sound synthesis and MIDI. I mean, all those guys who start out on a PC send me basic questions about SysEx and how do I do this and that, I mean, this just annoys me. Get a hardware synth and learn some basic and some playing. Maybe then you can go to softsynths or plugins, whatever they call it.

  • @dvamateur well but if you want to work with hardware a dx7 might not be a that great way to do so. i mean its a digital synthesizer working with fm-synthesis. if you really want to start with hardware a real analog synth would be best. maybe the novation bass station which is not that expensive. on the bassstation you got a knob for everything (osc, filter,...). it's much more "hands-on" than the dx

  • @brietzmann Well, I just don't want to recommend spending too much on gear to learn. My personal "academic" set of synths includes about five instruments: Voyager OS, DX7, CZ-1, D-50, and Nord Lead. Something on the additive side would be also good such as Kawai K5 or Casio FZ-1, but I haven't had a chance to get an additive synth in a good shape yet... Nonetheless, my point is, don't get yourself limited to subtractive synthesis, open your eyes on FM, or something without a filter.

  • Nearly forgotten...

If you don't want to make serious music for customers, try this with a girl-friend:

Hey baby - you wanna see my latest DSP VST 7 wonders laptop....

Sorry for that... VST is good for FX and nothing else.

  • I think VST's are good to get familiar with how synth's work if you dont have the funds to buy into them right away.. I learnt a ton just by using VST synth's before I started getting into buying vintage synths myself.. if I had'nt, than I woulda been quite clueless as to what to do when I bought them.

  • Please apologize, my question is not linked to the video but to your comment:

I'd like to know why a software wouldn't be able to create a strictly clone wave from what an hardware synth could produce?

Furthermore, it "may" produce a 96khz 24bits, 5channels signal if you want, without any wire/amplifier issues (if you don't want some, but could add some if needed).

It seems to me that computers got such power you may imagine far more crazy minded sounds than hardware ever may produce.

  • Hardware these days is just a dedicated computer attached to knobs and a keyboard. The key advantage is that you have all the parameters right there in from of you which makes things FAR more intuitive. Also there is no chance of other crap being on the computer to slow things down.

In theory, yes, if you have a very powerful, dedicated computer with quality MIDI controllers, it is pretty much the same as hardware (and that's what many producers actually do these days)

  • @ArcaneInquisitor and if you have a a supercomputer and midi controllers what? the sounds are important not the power of proccesing...a digital sound will never compare to an analog, and that computer can't do what a dedicated synth can do...even with the best samples on the market.

  • I may be wrong but I don't think very many (if any) of the hardware synths these days are true analog. They are as digital as any soft-synth. Often the difference (other than processing power) is patented synthesis algorithms.

These days, since everything is recorded digital, analog ends up being almost superfluous. Recording an analog signal to a digital medium gives you digital quality. But these days even the digital quality is good competition.

  • @ArcaneInquisitor I don't think you've really heard enough comparisons to make this statement. If you were familiar with the sound of modular analog synthesizers recorded on modern digital equipment, you'd realise that the virtual analog DSP based synths, and the software synths, have still not managed to emulate the full character of analog synths.

  • @toranamunter Perhaps not. I know I've certainly listened to enough vinyl of Keith Emerson playing his old moog to have heard some true analog. Now what if you were to sample a single cycle of a moog wave output and us it in a VST? just wondering your opinion on that kind of thing.

I have tried direct digital/analog comparison (with recordings). Most people including myself were hard pressed to tell which was analog, in fact most guessed wrong.

  • @toranamunter In my opinion, digital is so good these days that saying you must have analog (which is of course "truly" better) it just splitting hairs. So few people will be able to tell the difference between analog and any quality digital synth.

  • thanks

  • The song "Simon says" is amazing! Can you please send an mp3 file of it so I can listen to it outside youtube. :)

  • has it piano samples too? is the keyboard semi-weighted? thank you

  • i think the electro does... but BOY is it pricey

  • if i have ableton live and i want to produce music i need a keyboard????

  • a midi controller at least is nice

  • if you have vst-instruments to use, you won't need a 1000€-keyboard

  • lol thanks now i think ill need to use vsti's only

  • A Nord-ish VST setup....

    DiscoDSP Discovery Pro (€149,-)

    M-Audio Delta 44 (€159,-)

    Emu XBoard 49 (€145,-)

A PC or MAC (at least €500,-)

Will set you back about €1000,- also

  • almost everybody got a pc or a mac...and there are lots of nice vsti#s out there that cost nothing.

  • Absolutely.

My point is however, that a Nord has quality components (dac's, keyboard, knobs etc.)

You will need to invest €'s to get your VST (mac or pc) setup to the same spec.

  • Unless you, you know, play keyboards and want a sweet synth for performance.

  • i also prefer real hardware...but if you you vstis a cheap midikeyboard is enough

  • Funny man,

first you should pay 1000,00 EUR for some good audio monitors to hear the difference you wanna talk about.

If you want to make music just for fun or your grandmom it's ok with VSTs only. But if you want to sell music....

1000 EUR for a kb-synth is very small money.

There is still no synth on vst out there which comes close to a Nord, Oberheim, Prophet etc.

The Waldorf Largo f.e. sounds pretty nice but if you can hear the original synth next to it you will laugh about yourself.

  • so, which one is better? the nordwave...or the nord lead?!

  • They are different so it matters what you need. Nord Wave have sample playback Oscillators as well as classic oscillators, and in combo they can modulate eachother. Wave has 2 part multitimbrality and effects. The Nord Lead has Unison, Arpeggiator, 4 part multitimbrality.

  • a good way to safe some money is to just buy the rack version. You'd probably be able to get a completely new unit for the same price as a second-hand keyboard-model....

  • All these cool vid's make me doubt about getting a nord lead 2(x) or a virus b :)

  • is good for trance production ??

  • In my opinion, its almost as good as my virus. if you're not wanting to drop some serious bucks, then you could try one of these out.

  • you sound like you are very tierd XD

  • I just bought a Nord Lead 2X (and you seem like a Nord expert) but the volume only works with my headphones is that normal?

  • is it a Nord wave below the Lead 2x?

  • "smoke free studio" a.k.a. in the garage next to the paint thinner... lol

    i'm just kidding

  • I love my Nord 2x as well. Good song at the end!

  • guys the voyager old school is fine if you cant get your hands on a roland system 100 or true modular due to cost or whatever, but otherwise its a bit of an oddity. if you can get one for abotu 1000 pounds though, then go for it...not worth the 1500 they want to flog them to us brits at.

ive got a roland system 100, 100m, DSI evolver AND a nord lead 2x...the nord is the dog's dangly bits...dont underestimate them!

  • Yeah, sell that 2X to me!

  • Moog synths are dope! Don't have a Voyager but I do have a Little Phatty!

  • How does the LP compare to the Voyager, besides being cheaper?

  • Do you like the LP better than the Nord Lead 2X? I just bought a 2X (my first VA), so, I'm still pretty new to it...not sure if it's the best fit for me yet (and the rock band i'm in). A lot of the presets sound kinda techno-ish, but there's some cool stuff in there too.

  • this is almost comedic in value, cause its so eloquently AND SUPERBLY delivered etc. Being a brit, i half expect some wild comedic shock somewhere, but alas.. ;-D

  • what ? he talks very normaly... " one cool thing is " " Thats pretty cool !" " Sooo... you know..." " so thats kinda cool cuz.. you know, its a really nice keyboard" so eloquent and superbly delivered its stupendous !

  • lol what can I say, I was very excited!

  • its nice to see the nords ARP in this vid, most other videos are just showing some FM pads, this was insightful as to see what sort of ARPs it had.

  • that song is AMAZING please leave this vid up!!! -E-

  • I own a nord lead 2x and i was just wondering for your song are you using a sequencer or something and what do you use for your bass drum

  • gosh how much does the nord 2x cost?

i heard they dont make um amymore

    :(

  • They go for about $1000.00.. as far as I know they do still make the Lead 2x.. the Lead 3 is no longer made.

  • I really need to get myself a Nord. Either a Lead 2X or a Wave. They sound amazing

  • Jesus CHRIST! IM SOLD!

  • also, the song kicks ass (just listened to it)

  • just out of curiosity... i read an article in keyboard magazine once that said something about how the nord lead is always in at least 2 polyphony even when polyphony and unison are set to one... don't suppose you know if that's right?

  • how many preset sounds does this have on it?

    does it have drum beats??

  • you go into this in good detail, thats cool

How much can you buy one of these new for?

  • I got the one in this vid new for 999.99.

  • you sound really lame, loser.

  • wow man.. you told me :)

  • the synth rules u dont man the song sux

  • Thats cool.. I know that Mexico sux so you must suck too.

  • Your voice puts me into a state of trance. Every once in a while someone's voice will do that to me, one time it just so happened to be this old guy who told long, rambling stories.

Anyway... I have the 2X and it rules!

  • Ive seen both of your videos on the nords, and it seems like you know what your doing, I dont want to sound like an idiot asking this quesiton, but i just recently bought my 2x, and only 2 out of the four program banks are actually outputting sound. the other two are dead? now i see there's activity still going on when i play for example the percusion presets but there no sound comming out. If you could please tell me what is going on that would be greatly appreciated.

  • You may need to configure the output mode. press and hold shift then press the OUT MODE key which is the second function of the B slot button.

now the screen should say 'ab' press the button again till it says 'cd' and make sure there is a dot in front of the 'cd' if you only have outputs A and B connected to your mixer than slots C and D need to be routed outputs A and B. Try paning output A hard left and out B hard right and play a 3 octave arp the notes will ping pong left and right! :)

  • Good demo. Why'd you sell? I'm considering switching my 2R for a 2X. Good idea or bad idea?

  • I loved my NL2x! But I got the new Nord Wave, so I needed to off set my cost. The Nord Wave was 2800.00! I guess if I ever need a NL2x I can just go buy one again :)
