  • are that the real movie or your voices?

  • The electronic orchestrations at Tony's entrance is very interesting, I kinda love it actually.

  • Wow, the actors are thinking about their roles as they sing. Pretty amazing accomplishment. By the way, they are on key, which is a nice touch. Truly one of the most impressive versions of the Quintet I've ever seen.

  • Dreaming through a construction zone with out a hard hat? Ballsy

  • Well first of all that was amazing! But secondly, you Maria looks just like Andy from the Goonies :P

  • This is FANTASTIC! :D

  • There are some minor timing problems, but wow, this is really well done!

  • You all have amazing voices :)

  • I think I am the only biggest West Side Story fan on earth, and that was GREAT!!!!!!I loved that and it was well sang and played,God Bless and pls do more West Side Story

  • I'm saying minimum 50% of cast is gay LOL Great performance!

  • theeyy beeeeegaaaaannn itttttt....

    goosebumps.

  • wow. this is awesome. i particularly love that Tony is played by an asian. gives extra irony to the whole gang/racial warfare thing. also, i saw the pro production in australia recently and i would say that your tony is probably better than the one i saw! well done!

  • incredible!

  • I LOVE Anita's voice! Awesome!

  • I'm so confused! WHO began it? they can't all have begun it? (can they?)

are they going to "jazz it up" at the Gap or further down that tough looking street at the Banana Republic?

who put Anita in that corner? was it Patrick Swayze?

any why, oh why, is Maria singing in a whisper? does she think Tony-san will here her better that way?

important questions that need answers before somebody gets hurt!

  • @BernardProfitendieu Tony's a Filipino. Only a gay Filipino would sign up to do such a video. LOL

  • @gabsylv Pink Pinoy Power - cool!

  • And what are you doing, for the rest of your life? This is perfect, I would like to see a whole film of it... WSS for the 21st century:-) Really wonderful!

    Charlie from Hungary

  • At first I didn't realize you guys were singing yourselves, I thought it was just a vid with the musical track as a backing - but you were actually singing! and filming! and acting! great job :)

  • Congratulations guys, is a wonderful version

  • BIG APPLAUSE!!!!

How did u get all those voices together >?

  • Great job..worth all your effort..our thanks!!

  • i loved the tony...but the jet on the right is way overacting

  • lol even jets look both ways before crossing the street

  • really nice -- seeing familiar boston landscapes was a bonus!

  • Really good, really good, you'll go.

  • I got chills watching this. thumbs up from me

  • This is a very impressive performance, even by professional standards. As a director, I'm curious, where did you get the music to make the background track/accompaniment music?

  • @mielkewaypictures We made it ourselves.

  • @HeyMrMusic So it's not the same as the original score?

  • I wish I had enough friends cool enough to do this when they got bored. I would, but nobody else would.

  • Wasn't the best. But nice. Tony sounded really good tho. Anita was off.

  • wahahaha.. this is amazing...

  • Wow that was good. But maria was a little to high

  • Amazing

    I should do one myself!

  • Wow, I'm shaking! That was great, especially for a ramshackle attempt. It was definitely one of the hardest scenes to pull off and it was done quite well.

Though I guess you must have gotten strange looks from passerbys.

  • cool video, but the voices were not always in tune.

  • Awesome! All great voices, especially the guy who plays Tony. The background music was a bit strange though. But other than that, great! :D

  • man this is excellent...

    greets from Germany

  • Your cues are a bit off sometimes, and the BGM sounds like Mario Paint, but there's some legitimate musical skill here.

  • wow i got chills!

  • me to!

  • Excellent!

  • That was amazing!

  • As a musician who was the rehearsal accompanist/pianist for my school's performance, I of course listened to the musical aspect of this. Timings could have been better, such as Anita's entrance, but as a video done from complete boredom, I applaud your talent greatly. Keep up the good work.

  • Thanks for your comment. Yes, there are things that were off here and there. We tried to edit it together as best as we could. Everything was recorded in pieces (including each part of the orchestration, which, I know, isn't the best), so we did our best with the rough cuts that we had and layered them all on top of each other.

  • ok so seriously that was VERY enjoyable :) Thanks for doing this...i love seeing our generation into stuff that matters...having a great time involving music, friends and inspiration :)

  • What happened to the good ol' days when Gangs would just snap their fingers at you and dance around?

  • I love how the pure hard Jets wait for the car to pass then cross the road. Brilliant vid :D

  • Hilarious.

  • niiiiiice!! this is pretty awesome

  • That was great !!

  • Cool! BTW, isn't Anita's part lush? The 'Anita gonna have her day, Anita's gonna have her day, Barnardo's gonna have his way...' bit and also the 'This very night ...' bit. I'm a soprano so have to sing Maria's lines but fell in love with Anita's part recently in rehearsals!! :-)

  • wow! You did this out of boredom? Get bored more b/c this is FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been hunting on here for a good version, and this is GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you!

  • Truly outstanding! Great vocals, great perfrormances. Photography and cutting clearly inspired by the film version but updated, and guided by a fresh take on the material.

  • The movie's better.This sounds chessy.

  • wow! this was FANTASTIC! WELL DONE!

  • This is so, so cool! I love that you guys just did this for fun :) Also, the part with Maria coming up the stairs towards the camera is a gorgeous shot.

  • lol asian guy

  • It was pretty good

  • Well! No bad by a long shot, in fact,it was excellant! I should know,I did it at Lincoln Center so tell your buddies THAT! BRAVO all!

  • This is so great! Really enjoyed it.

  • Holy crap. THIS WAS AMAZING.

The fact you all sang yourselves, I actually thought when it began it was from the film.

Please do more! :D Bravo to you all!

  • The background music is so obviously synthesized it's painful. Your actors have quite a bit of talent, though! Not bad at all!

  • its good....But you needed a real PR in the group..Just saying...

  • Can you guys make West Side Story Maria? I love that piece.

  • I actually like this better than the original 1961 film, I mean the music part. But the main character Tony in this film looks kinda dorky.

  • EP.IC.

  • the shark on the far left looks like a Jonas brother

  • i am going to be in WSS and rehersals start tomorrow so this was SO helpful!

  • What role are you playing?

  • What city did you guys film this in?

  • Thank you for posting this...I am getting ready to direct a production of WSS and found the inspiration to begin this daunting process. Thanks!

  • Very good. Well done!

  • AAAAHHHH!!!!! That was fantastic-ly good!

  • Video Description: "Basically, we were bored and did this for fun."

Guys... know this... you dont go remaking classic musical moments such as the Quintet from West Side Story cause of boredom. You were obviously inspired to make this and tried so hard to make it good. It is exceptionally incredible and you should be proud of your... "boredom" :)

  • Troublemaker is absolutely right. This is incredibly well done and something you should be very proud of.

  • i mean 3:07

  • its epic @ 3:10

  • good job guys awesome

  • Amazing. You guys should do the whole production in video form. That would be great. 5 stars and fav'd.

  • Has there ever been a better piece of complicated-and-lovely American musical? Wow. These kids are great. Nice piece of work, you guys. Dennis

  • I'd like to see you do better!

  • Very well done, going into my faves for sure!!!

  • Great work, guys !!

  • this was really impressive. but if its the emmerson in boston i want to say at least SOME of you are theater/musical theatre students so its not all that surprising.

    thumbs up.

  • I still like coming back to this video. Very nicely done guys

  • Woah....that was great. Really good cast, especially Maria and Tony.

  • That was STUNNING!!!!!

It's that's what you did when you were "bored", then I would love to see more boredom.

  • Wow, really impressive

  • Excellent! I would love to see a whole show, if this is a sample. =D

  • Wow!! I'm....speechless! 5 stars!

  • GREAT VERSION!!!! its fantastic

but ilike more maria that anita or tony...

i don't finish to like how she sings anita

  • 2:25 Who's the hottie against the stairwell?

  • haha BRILLIANT guys, well done (:

  • That's great, wow! All these people sang?

  • no other word to use, but FANTASTIC!!!

  • i love your tony's voice =D

  • I'm surprised this hasn't been featured. Nice job :)

  • WOW!! you were bored??? This is so much better than what other people make when they're bored!!! Where did you get the backround track? This was amazing!!

  • I made the background track.

    Thanks for your comment. :)

    ~Steven

  • @HeyMrMusic steven soderbergh aren't you?

  • You're right, it is nice to hear the original Bernstein/ Sondheim version of this song!

I'm rehearsing for a performance of West Side Story at the moment, and trying to rehearse this song when you're by yourself is hard when there's a million parts ... and the film version is almost completely different!

Credit where credit's due... Good work guys :)

  • you totally nailed it! and nicely filmed as well.

  • I'm a West Side Story FREAK. Your production is a TOTAL 10!!!!

  • Amazing!

  • LOVE IT!

  • Nice.

  • that is so much fun. You guys have great voices!!

  • Wow that was BRILLIANT!!! As a lifelong WSS fan I am really critical of anyone doing a bad version. THAT WAS GREAT! Wish I could have been in it!

  • Oh my god that looked like such fun. My school is doing west side story at christmas so doing that ensemble would be a good promotional idea. Great piece! I enjoyed every bit of it :)

  • I had such a blast watching this! YOu guys did a WONDERFUL job! ^_^

  • cool!!

  • that wasssss aweeesommmmeee!!

  • are you serious an asian tony. doesnt that mess up the whole thing lol.

  • I saw West Side story in the Philippines where I live and everyone was Asian and I thought it was pretty good.

  • AAAHHH That was amazing! I had chills! I loooooooved that. =D

  • Delighted to see the original version rather than the film version! Brilliant work!

  • OK. good vid i guess... but... wrong anita sorry!! and tony is not puerto rican. and the part where its first like "today the minutes seen like hours the hours go so slowly" MARIA sings that not tony!!

  • Actually, Tony sings the entire verse in the musical. They made Maria sing that section in the movie only.

Thanks for your comments. This was the one time I could ever play Tony since it was just made within a group of friends. I know that I will never get cast as him! :)

  • That's so unfortunate too. I wish there were more parts in musical theatre for Asians.

  • You make an excellent Tony!

  • well done! are you guys theatre majors? if not, you should be!

  • This is really good. You guys should be proud of yourselves.

  • That was amazing! Tony was fantastic and everyone was great!

  • more more, wonderful. Maria's voice was perfect for this

  • oh! oh! my ears!

  • Must say well done! Make another.

  • That was realy cool makes me want to do that with some friends. Very good voices

  • oh my gosh, this was really funny.

  • Excellent performance!!I have watch this scene more than forty times, but this video is one of the best performance I have ever seen.

  • steven....as tony has a very good voice!

  • This is awesome.

  • Wow, I am so impressed. Beautifully done, BRAVO!

  • oh man..that was so amazing.i enjoy that more than the one i did in school this past February.

    great job!

  • fantastic, superb job

  • this is so delightfully strange and wonderful! Well done!

  • Maria looks more American than Tony, LOL. But kidding aside, I think it was great ;)

  • You guys ROCK!! It's so good to see a new generation embrace this MASTERPIECE Lenny would be proud. Next try make our garden grow from Candide.

  • One of the best videos on YouTube, without doubt.

  • Have directed WWS many times and you all did a great job...little worried about Anita at first ( little out of tempo) but her voice is great. Nice ncie Maria!!!!

    Los Angeles C.B. DeMille

  • This is really awesome. You're all incredibly talented!

  • This is great! You're very good! Congratulations.

  • isnt tony white?

  • I have no idea why, but I guess that they liked him.

  • think this is just a group of friends who did this for fun, nothing professional. Which makes this even more amazing.

  • yeah

  • the guy who was tony was really good

  • This is fantastic. Truly inspirational. On the final note that everyone holds, and the camera cycled through all the characters in smash cuts, I got the biggest chills. Amazing. Kudos.

  • TERRIFIC! Simply terrific guys (SMILE) Lenny, Steven, and Jerome would be so proud!

  • woah! amazing!

  • Wow. That was really good.

  • Bless you for your inspired project. The audio mix in the passage sung between Maria and the Jets ("I'll see you there around eight...")was better than the original: the Jets were more prominent when Maria's restatement of the melody didn't need to be as strong.

  • wow guys. they did this for fun. I don't think it has to be PERFECT or completely ORIGINAL. The fact that they could do that is amazing. Just saying.

  • very good but u didnt use the right instements or the right ppl at times but u had the toon nd everything else was great 5/5

  • wow good singing :)

tho you could have gone a little more origional with the style.. seemed a lot like the musical.. but other then that.. was realy good :)

  • Nice.

Tony is dark and Maria is white.

    Haha.

  • Very impressive!

  • Wow! That was so cool! Maria and Tony did very good! And so did everyone else! Especially the editor! It looks amazing!

  • Took the words right out of my mouth.

  • Wow. I want to know more about the people who did this!!! You are so fabulous. Thank you so much for this bored person at home thanksgiving evening alone with the Youtube. I went from Audra McDonald to this and am not disappointed.

  • Really good ! Amazing !

  • After 50 years, West Side Story remains one of the finest of standard-bearers of Broadway musicals.

  • That's really good. Whoever played Tony has an amazing voice, but Maria has little to no strength in hers.

  • AMAZING.

  • wow! you'll should continue with the whole thing :DDDD

  • A for effort...but very pitchy...and that cute Maria ain't hangin' with THAT Tony.

  • THAT Tony is who posted this.

  • this is cool.

  • wow! saucool!

  • tony is china man? WTF

  • Sweet!

  • can you make a continuation for this... please...

  • good job

  • this is so much..... AMAZING! Ordinary people making this kind of films.... this is a great copy of WEST SIDE STORY... A very modern one. And I love it!

  • Yeah I love that preformance! Great!

  • dude...thas awesome!

  • Cool boy! Real Cool!

  • I love that you guys were "bored" and came up with that! That was truly outstanding. Bravo!

  • i am in this play right now and i realy liked what you did with this part. . its one of the most intence parts. . good job with it tony was great riff meh. . it was good no where neer as good as i thought tony was tho. . sorry dude

  • Good shot!!! Quite professional. But I have to say Tony was the weakest among them all...
