Not even just to the store! Somewhere up in the comments, someone posted the crowd response to the doors being broken down. It sickened me. Even though they didn't actually know someone was hurt, I was bothered by the fact that they CHEERED when the doors came down.
I was pleasantly surprised (being the day after Christmas) today when I went out to get groceries that the department stores and even Wal-Mart were not nearly the hot spots they had been the day after Thanksgiving.
At least you are thinking in the right frame of mind! Freedom of speech would allow you to yell at everyone wouldn't it? Oh, yeah....it wouldn't...we don't actually have that. Ohhh Fairytales!
Lol. I know... and it's sad because the people who do have the power are busy yelling about something else that we don't need. I wish people could magically not be stupid.
People this link I'm posting is a must see. It's a link to video footage prior, during, and after this horrific incident took place. It will fill in any gaps this sad story has.
Wow! I couldn't even watch the whole thing. They were HAPPY when they broke the door! I know he said they didn't know anyone was hurt, but to even be happy the doors were broken and ...just wow.
Shame on these retailers! Making it seem as though the "only" day for a good deal is the day after Thanksgiving is all a method in which retailers compete for record sales and a way to boost economy, nothing more. I ask "boost" - how more debt? The economy has placed parents in a situation where there may be no "Santa" for some kids because they can barely afford the mortgage they would normally not have qualified for under a normal economic environment. Truly was a Black Friday if you ask me.
Plus Bush needs to get a good economy boost in before he leaves office. Just like gas prices suddenly dropping around the holidays to boost travel, lol.
I would be really surprised if we see any kind of boost before he leaves office. It's been talked about for a few months and that's about it. However! Obama has said, "he either does it before I get there or I do it after." So that part is promising!
Sadly, I don't think NY is the only place this kind of thing happens. In a town as small as Abilene, Texas a man was also trampled, ironically, also in a Wal-Mart. Thankfully, he didn't die, but it certainly wasn't for lack of trying.
I didn't hear about the incident in TX (and I live in DC), see the media won't tell us of survivors only death stories. I heard about a shooting in CA at a Toys R Us where 2 died. I bet there are 100's of other stories of injuries, assults, etc. I think it's a shame people have truly forgotten the meaning of holidays. Skip Thanksgiving?? I mean honestly! I hardly do any shopping at malls, its been a good 5+ years since Ive even step foot in one. I personally decided to boycot Walmart this year.
It's not really Wal-Mart that we should be ashamed of. Yes, it's pretty muffed up that they weren't ready with security measures, but I am far more disapointed in the fact that the people were so quick to run this poor guy over!
I agree!! I have other issues with Walmart in general, lol. But I can surely tell you if it were me standing next to those women fighting, I would have stopped it. Or if I saw that man being trampled. What goes thru someone's minds when they are behaving like that?? See society works with a "pack" mentality. All they needed was ONE person to make the move to help and others would follow. We are in a sea of followers not nearly enough leaders these days.
I guess I can not say for 100% what I would have done in the same situation, but I would like to think I would have not stood idly by to watch a man die. I can promise I wouldn't have been shopping for a TV.

They closed the store for a few hours... then re-opened. Sales quotas are more important the reverence for (or just the idea of) a human life.

I wish somehow I could yell at everyone in existence today about how stupid they all are... but the F.C.C. and businessmen won't let me.
I felt really sad when I heard this story because it only confirmed my contempt for hedonistic bastards.

Couldn't ask if it was ok and sometimes people are touchy 'bout that. I didn't think you would be, but you and Lisa I didn't get to ask.

it was more like a Bleak Friday!

I agree completely! I have 3 kids still at home and its tough!
The retailers don't care and I would venture to bet, without someone actually pushing for action, this "incident" isn't going to change their plans.
Money talks and is not nearly as important as safety which is truly TRULY disgusting.
