Final Fantasy 9 has some pretty tough mini games, hardest overall in Final Fantasy games perhaps.
Vivi is based on the original Black mage design from the first game, and there's jokes that he's the son of Black Mage from the Nuclear Power comic 8-bit theater. If he was a youtuber, I would say he's closer to NintendoCapriSun without the bathroom jokes and singing, and his magic represents the power of So Happy and the Green Rupee Scream.
The pinion also improve chance of full life effect with the phoenix summon, which you will learn more about in disk 2.
It felt like you were trying to pull a Chuggaaconroy when you tried pronouncing the Japanese names, but I think it's just because I noticed he's starting a Pokemon Emerald LP.
You can press select in the menu to bring a moogle up to explain items, allowing you to see added effects of equipment. and as an added note, potions restore 150 hp in battle, but only 100 on the field.
You missed a few items in the dark room. Just a few potions and gil.
There's an Easter egg if you keep choosing the queen
Darkkefka. You know why it isn't being much supported much now? Google, Amazon, Twitter, Facebook and other big companies has actually publicized they consider nuclear to stop SOPA. That has worried many politicians I think as those companies are serious about it. Second Anonymous posted videos threatening any who supports SOPA. They got Sony, EA and Nintendo to stop supporting SOPA indefinitely. Don't worry, this bull wont get through unless the politicians want to get nuked.
People have already commented about how important it is to steal from bosses, but there's one really big thing to note. Late in the game, I think disk 3, Zidane can learn an attack that is stronger based on how much you have stolen. I don't remember his damage potential with regular attacks, but stealing may be something handy to invest in.

If you sell cotton robes at the weapon shop, you can make 610 gil a cotton robe.Wrist (130 gil) + Steepled Hat (260 gil) + mixing fee (1000 gil) -- you can get a Cotton robe. You can sell a Cotton robe by 2000 gil, so you can make money 610 gil by making one cotton robe.
@Darkkefka Gil IS important in this game. I repeat, GIL IS VERY IMPORTANT. In item synthesis, you'll want to keep at least two to three duplicates of weapons and armor to teach each ability to every character. Unfortunately grinding is needed to keep ahead of the expensive shops and synthesis prices. STEAL. GIL.
@Darkkefka Steal steal steal steal steal steal steal STEALl. Also, keep up on chocographs! Bosses will have at least three items to steal. Thanks DK, Final Fantasy IX will be a good one. The card game isn't nearly as frustrating as Triple Triad. Terra Master, is pretty fun. Pay attention to Freya's dragon abilities and Zidanes thief abilities.
Just a heads up DK, if you find the other Knights of Pluto you'll get an Elixir pretty rare during the first disc. Also yes you'll fight those two Jesters, but not right now maybe later on **SPOILER** in Disc Two or Three. The Card mini game is quite different/same from FF8 with how the battle system works. I think that there might be a guide, but it's not important like in 8 where you can refine them into items and what not so just skip that, but there are MAYBE some rare items to win over.
To help with Ability learning and Exp gaining, you will eventually find equips with the special abilities: Ability Up and Level Up. Also you can't max out character stats so no need to do any grinding or learn any special stat method. Also turn Zidane into a kleptomaniac because one of his skills is effected by that.
here's a tip when it comes to weapons sythensizing is a must you have to search thoroughly in towns for items and steal your ass off to alcemize better weapons and armor! if you're stuck dont be afraid to ask us for help.
you know @ 10:58 if you pick Queen Brahne, Baku will say yes we'll kidnap that fat ass but-ugly...lol if you keep picking the incorrect answer 64 times you get a ruby. but that's too much work! lol
I noticed a lot of people saying to steal from every boss with Zidane. I mostly agree, although i say include it to involve every FIGHT. Zidane gets a weapon late in the game that gives him an ability that deals damage based on how many times he has successfully stolen an item or something like that.
FF9 is a fantastic game! i highly recommed using Zidane for stealing from every enemy because some bosses carry rare items you can't get anywhere else plus it's important you boost up your treaure hunting rank.

Oh im sure it was already mentioned before but STEAL from every boss, they each have 3 things you can steal, it might be aggravating sometimes (some cases the stealing rate is really really low) but you get amazing items that way, and weapons.

It's great that your finally doing the IX blind lp, but it would be great if you didn't skip through the dialogue so quickly because you will miss important parts of the story and you will get confused.
Yes you CAN skip cut scenes actually, all you need to do is open up your play station system while the cut scene is playing, close it, and the cut scene will skip, this is required to do if you ever play on getting Excalibur 2.
Not only will you get better items by stealing them, but it also increases the damage of one of Zidane's abilities.
Also, there are a few missable items that you can only purchase ONCE in the game. If you miss that opportunity, there's no way to get them (not to spoil anything, but the wand that teaches Vivi the -ga spells is one of those. I missed it in my first playthrough, so Vivi never learned them >_>).
Enjoy FF9, it's one of my favourite games ever (soundtrack, characters, storyline).

Zidane will have a skill called "Detect" which will allow you too see what items of mobs or bosses have, since your doing a blind playthrough. Steal is the key factor to obtain stronger weapons and armor earlier and also make sure to use "ablities equipments." to counter enemy's special effects. I suggest you do EVERYTHING on disc 3 before heading to disc 4 because disc 4 you can obtain Steiner's strongest weapon, The Excalibur 2, but you have to playthrough disc 4 within 12hrs to get it.
Battle control is if you want to play with a friend with 2 controllers during battles. Kinda useless. Oh AND when the time comes get all Chokobo treasures from the world map.

You should slap whoever told you to skip this game, its seriously one of the best FF games and is the series creator's favorite. Also you would love the Alexandrian Kingdom, cause all the knights are women, except Steiner and his troop.
Ashley can be a man's name as well as a woman. For example in gone with the wind, Scarlett gets involved with a man named Ashley (who they then named half of the things in South Carolina after).
You are gonna have so much fun with this game DK. You could have stolen a sword from the first boss with Zidane. Try to buy two of every thing for fusing items later. Trust me it helps out later. Another thing is try and do the chocobo side quest, you get the ultimate weapons that way.
I love watching a DK vid b4 bed lol anyway you should steal items from each boss that you can because you can get weapons/armor earlier then you normally would and equipping weapons and armor helps you get new ablitites in FF9, also the card game is optional except for one part in the game and If I remember correctly you don't even have to win lol regarding the pheonix pinion it has the same function as a pheonix down in battle and it can teach the summon pheonix to the characters that can learn
I wouldn't listen to anyone who's telling you to play the card game... it's terrible compared to FFVIII's, and when you "need" to play it, it's very easy and you'll have enough decent cards to get you through the games (you have to play it like 3 times, everyone is super easy and if you lose against the "master" it doesn't matter and you don't even get anything decent).
@wee187 Actually that's not true. It's not ENTIRELY optional. However, it is completely optional in VIII (which is ironic considering the game is more useful in VIII).
@Darkkefka You missed some good items that you can get later (Like a early Cactucar card :P) and if my memory serves me right that moogle you meet at the tower had a side quest item that you need.. I think.
@Darkkefka Not a whole lot but you do need to make sure and get good at the cards for a point coming up in the near future. Try and grind for cards in each town you enter.
@Darkkefka The only big things you missed would be the Mage Masher from the first boss and the 10, 000 gil and Moonstone accessory you get for impressing 100 nobles (which is damn near impossible at times) in the fight scene. Everything else was just small treasures hidden around Alexandria.
By the way, why do you always just skim through the dialogue? 8 made sense because you've played it so many times, but this is a new game with a great story. You should really take it all in.
take it easy man, play the cards, explore every corner, talk to everybody, enjoy the game. don't try to rush it, or you'll miss hell alot of a plot and bonuses
Usually when I play a FF game for the 1st time I always keep a list of perm missable items open so that I don't hate myself later in the game. I know one thing that I missed was the haste boots from the hidden boss in the castle(that's all I want to say without spoiling anything). And since there's only 3 or 4 pairs of haste boots in the game they are quite useful.
Steal everything you can. Do not sell any equipment until the endgame. Do not grind to level 50 at all costs, stay at level 49. Always remember these things and you will do fine.
I believe this bill will permit the US to restrict IP addresses if they violate their terms. I am against this because our rights are being taken away little by little over time. More and more laws are passed day after day which takes away our freedoms that soldiers have died fighting for throughout American history.
@Darkkefka Some advice. ALWAYS steal with Zidane (you'll thank me later ;) )
When you gain multiple party members shove him in the back row and make him style every round until it says the enemy has nothing. The enemy can carry multiple items and boss enemies nearly ALWAYS have equips to steal along with other goodies. Later in the game Zidane will learn a skill which does damage based on how many times you successfully stole.

I'll start by assuming that you've recorded the next episode and u r in evil forest.
1.Kill boss that has garnet trapped dont need to steal.
2.Get bronze gloves in 1st room you control Zidane they will teach antibody and they r good
3.You will fight Baku again. In the room to the left there is a rubber helm which cuts lightning damage in half got it?- good
4. Finally remember to steal iron helm from plant brain. Hope this helps with next recording session!

You should slap whoever told you to skip this game, its seriously one of the best FF games and is the series creator's favorite. Also you would love the Alexandrian Kingdom, cause all the knights are women, except Steiner and his troop.

Also by throwing tents at enemies DK, you can blind them and or put them to sleep. Do that when you fight Gizamulke in his Grotto.

You are gonna have so much fun with this game DK. You could have stolen a sword from the first boss with Zidane. Try to buy two of every thing for fusing items later. Trust me it helps out later. Another thing is try and do the chocobo side quest, you get the ultimate weapons that way.

I love watching a DK vid b4 bed lol anyway you should steal items from each boss that you can because you can get weapons/armor earlier then you normally would and equipping weapons and armor helps you get new ablitites in FF9, also the card game is optional except for one part in the game and If I remember correctly you don't even have to win lol regarding the pheonix pinion it has the same function as a pheonix down in battle and it can teach the summon pheonix to the characters that can learn

I wouldn't listen to anyone who's telling you to play the card game... it's terrible compared to FFVIII's, and when you "need" to play it, it's very easy and you'll have enough decent cards to get you through the games (you have to play it like 3 times, everyone is super easy and if you lose against the "master" it doesn't matter and you don't even get anything decent).

if you want to see the doors you should be able to hit the select button ( from what i remember ) and it should mark the doors for you

You missed a few items and quests already.
Get used to playing the card game, it's required later on to progress the story.
You save at Moogles. (So you'll see them a ton)
Also that fat blue thing is female and is the queen of Alexandria. (You addressed this, THAT'S A WOMEN!? LOL)
SFX is special effects they do no damage and are there for show in the play.
I'm not sure how many times you'll die. But you shouldn't die much as you're an experience FF player.

@wee187 Actually that's not true. It's not ENTIRELY optional. However, it is completely optional in VIII (which is ironic considering the game is more useful in VIII).

@Darkkefka You missed some good items that you can get later (Like a early Cactucar card :P) and if my memory serves me right that moogle you meet at the tower had a side quest item that you need.. I think.

@Darkkefka Not a whole lot but you do need to make sure and get good at the cards for a point coming up in the near future. Try and grind for cards in each town you enter.

@Darkkefka The only big things you missed would be the Mage Masher from the first boss and the 10, 000 gil and Moonstone accessory you get for impressing 100 nobles (which is damn near impossible at times) in the fight scene. Everything else was just small treasures hidden around Alexandria.
By the way, why do you always just skim through the dialogue? 8 made sense because you've played it so many times, but this is a new game with a great story. You should really take it all in.

take it easy man, play the cards, explore every corner, talk to everybody, enjoy the game. don't try to rush it, or you'll miss hell alot of a plot and bonuses

Usually when I play a FF game for the 1st time I always keep a list of perm missable items open so that I don't hate myself later in the game. I know one thing that I missed was the haste boots from the hidden boss in the castle(that's all I want to say without spoiling anything). And since there's only 3 or 4 pairs of haste boots in the game they are quite useful.

Steal everything you can. Do not sell any equipment until the endgame. Do not grind to level 50 at all costs, stay at level 49. Always remember these things and you will do fine.

@Darkkefka Some advice. ALWAYS steal with Zidane (you'll thank me later ;) )
When you gain multiple party members shove him in the back row and make him style every round until it says the enemy has nothing. The enemy can carry multiple items and boss enemies nearly ALWAYS have equips to steal along with other goodies. Later in the game Zidane will learn a skill which does damage based on how many times you successfully stole.
