Here is where you went wrong man, the song is sung in two different octaves so unless you can go really high, you should probably start just an octave lower. It will sound smoother and more natural, also you might even enter your belting range ;-)

U know why he has to sing like that, because Mariah Carey songs are too high. You can't sing it with a male voice unless you are extremely gifted. He is using falsetto, anyone can do this, it's easy. If you want to listen to a talented high pitch male singing Mariah Carey, search for lin yu chun hero and listen to the 2nd video. He sings in the same scale as Mariah.

@BBQJester First, Lin Yu Chun is still just a kid, so like many young men at his age, they usually have the ability to sing in a higher key with their natural chest voice because they haven't fully matured yet physically. Second, he doesn't sing at the level of Mariah nor does his voice have the same capability as Mariah. He's pretty much using his voice just like Nick does. Listen to Lin Yu Chen sing "Without You".
