  • I presented a couple of radio progs each week in Abu Dhabi from1986 to 1988 and I played this on oh so many of them. Fantastic singing by Simon, great backing vox by Sheila and Sheryl Parker and a really nice fretless bass by Dave Pegg. In my view this is by far the best version of this song.

  • I love this version of the song because it is the only one I've heard which is non-secular. Most versions have " god" watching us from a distance and religion has been the cause of war forever.

Who needs imaginary friends who make it right to kill ?

  • Finally! I have fought my own memory for years, trying to figure out why my childhood memory of this song had background vocals! The only one I have been able to find has been the Fairport live version, which is beautiful, but every single time I listened to it I've had this nagging voice in the back of my head saying "there should be more vocals! There should be more! Why do I think there should be more?" And here they are. Only it's not a FC song, but a SN solo piece. Thank you.
