I agree that Murtagh is hot and bad-ass, but I overlook that when I watch this because it goes completely against Murtagh's character. He hates that sword! It was his father's sword and it's what gave him his scar! (Which is supposed to be a long line on his back, not a weird, tattoo-looking thing on his side).

yeah, and maybe make arya look a little bit more like an elf... besides, in the book durza manages to injure eragon´s back. why doesn´t that happen in the movie too? a great part of the second book is based on that, including eragon changing to some kind of semi-elf

Something I loved about the book that didn't really shine through in the movie is the depth of the relationships and the history in the charactors. Murtagh has had a very hard life, theres a lot of DEEP pain and anger in him. He should be un-readable, not so friendly at first and in the movie seems like him and Eragon hardly know eachother even at the end...Brom was wonderful though :)

Garrett Hedlund was absolutely perfect for Murtagh. Jeremy Irons was also perfect for Brom. Maybe if someone decided to make a real movie version of the cycle, and not just one to make a quick buck off fans, they could somehow manage to get them in there? But please, find a new Eragon. haha :)

I find it interesting that, after reviewing the movie, this is the only scene (along with a few others with Brom) that I didn't feel awkward at or cringe at...which is funny because both characters are so OUT-of-character here, AND it's a deleted scene. I have to hand it to Murtagh's actor; he may not have been in character in this scene (that's probably the fault of the directing/script anyways), but he stole it.
In my opinion, the only characters that were cast truly well in this movie were Murtagh and Brom (yes, I know that Brom doesn't look like he does in the book, but I believe that the actor who played Brom portrayed him very well regardless).
My favorite character is murtagh, I'm sad his role is that small, also in the books, but I look forward because the author said his character will be appear much more often in the 4th book!!! \(*_*)/
reading through ALL the comments on this page (i was bored) i think almost all us agree that eragons a dumb child that cant survive in the real world, murtagh is fabulous, especially cuz hes Garrett Hedlund whoès beautiful and makes alot of funny faces, and the movie was just plain dumb and a fail and every bad critic word you can think of n it needs to be remade by somebody who actually read the book
This shows you how much they fucked up the characters. Murtagh would never be so intrusive and Eragon would never be so rude. They were a lot more formal than that.

i still can't believe how they could have messed the movie up so bad. take this scene for example. Murtagh is the son of Morzan. @TakumiIchimaru You're right about how much they screwed up the movie, but not completly right about the sword. In the first book of the series, Murtagh said that he expected the sword to be the only good thing that he inherited from his father. Instead, Brom took when he killed Morzan and later gave it to Eragon. Even later in the second book when Murtagh turns evil, he takes it from Eragon. This might be one of the only scenes in the movie that they didn't screw up.

@VIBRAXBOY dude if you had read what i had posted you would see that i did read the books. i've read them several times now. and yes it's true that Murtagh shows some interest in Zar'roc but if you read between the lines, although he expected the sword (and eventually takes the sword) as his inheritance, he absolutely hated the sword. and besides think of it from a tactical point of view. riders' swords are virtually indestructible therefore Murtagh would have the upperhand when fighting Eragon.

reading through ALL the comments on this page (i was bored) i think almost all us agree that eragons a dumb child that cant survive in the real world, murtagh is fabulous, especially cuz hes Garrett Hedlund whoès beautiful and makes alot of funny faces, and the movie was just plain dumb and a fail and every bad critic word you can think of n it needs to be remade by somebody who actually read the book

This shows you how much they fucked up the characters. Murtagh would never be so intrusive and Eragon would never be so rude. They were a lot more formal than that.

I like how the sword is blue and somewhat looks like brisingr. Zarroc is a red sword and a one handed sword, not a blue 2h. Idiots

i still can't believe how they could have messed the movie up so bad. take this scene for example. Murtagh is the son of Morzan. Murtagh absolutely hates his father. why on earth would he be so excited to hold his father's sword?! and that's not even my biggest beef with this movie. this movie was so full of fail. the best thing that came from this movie was the Eragon bike that OCC built.

@TakumiIchimaru You're right about how much they screwed up the movie, but not completly right about the sword. In the first book of the series, Murtagh said that he expected the sword to be the only good thing that he inherited from his father. Instead, Brom took when he killed Morzan and later gave it to Eragon. Even later in the second book when Murtagh turns evil, he takes it from Eragon. This might be one of the only scenes in the movie that they didn't screw up.

@VIBRAXBOY dude if you had read what i had posted you would see that i did read the books. i've read them several times now. and yes it's true that Murtagh shows some interest in Zar'roc but if you read between the lines, although he expected the sword (and eventually takes the sword) as his inheritance, he absolutely hated the sword. and besides think of it from a tactical point of view. riders' swords are virtually indestructible therefore Murtagh would have the upperhand when fighting Eragon.

His expression at 0:28 makes me laugh. Murtagh's the best! Gotta love him! I'd love to cuff Eragon upside the head at the end though. grrrr he annoys the crap outa me in the movie! "What can you teach me?" he says. HA!! It's more like what CAN'T he teach you! Damn fool. Murtagh could send Eragon hauling butt to Carvahall with his tail between his legs like a pup that just got kicked (not that I'd do that to a puppy). dude ok they couldnt make the dwarves short or let arya have pointy ears, yet they manage to incorporate murtagh doing the hand twisty thing with the sword by which eragon later recognizes his swordsmanship. not acceptable.
