These guys are just fucking incredible, always have been. Its a shame that most casual listeners in this day and age only know them for "rock you like a hurricane" or MAYBE big city nights and no one like you. :( But us rockers know all the awesome songs they had, which is pretty much all of them. There's not many scorpions tunes that I dont love!
@cdg282 I love so many Scorpions songs...Blackout, Is There Anybody There, Lovedrive, Pictured Life, Virgin Killer, Make It Real, Robot Man, Bad Boys Running Wild, Holiday, Dark Lady, Speedy's Coming, etcetera etcetera.
@EVARS737 That would have been sooooo cool. I remember watching the Berlin wall come down and I still think all of the great music from the 80s had an impact as people behind the iron curtain could get a taste of western music and freedom and longed for it. Now I'm seeing my own US become tyranical and I worry about my own freedom. But I've still got all of my music from the 80s and I'll never stop rockin...rock on EVARS737
So, guys, what would you like to say? Kottak sounds better? I dont think so.. Herman plays simply, but, I guess, it is what their music needs. He performs according to Scorp's style and nothing else.
I think Herman is the type of drummer who sounds "average" because he plays simplistic on purpose...just like Steven Adler and Rob Affuso from Skid Row...
Then there are guys like John Bonham and Cozy Powell, who sound simplistic but aren't, they do a lot of odd-time and off -meter stuff... especially Bonham, who rules...personally, I much prefer that style over the Neil Pearts and Dream Theatre's of the world...although those dudes are AWESOME on a technical level....
steven adler did way more fills on appetite for destruction than rarebell ever did. also he was a much harder hitter, which is also good. here he has two bass drums, so why doesn't he use them? because he can't I guess. but yeah, his drumming on lovedrive is really weak. they probably kept him because he coud write songs.
Guess what. The Scorps are a guitar oriented band. Not much room for fills and shit. Have you heard Tokyo Tapes with Uli Roth? Probably not, or you wouldn't make such comments. The drum solo is excellent. The drumming on that live album is excellent. Love it when people don't know what the hell they are talking about and claim they do.
The drum solo from Tokyo Tapes is weak. I'm a big Scorpions fan but almost every Polish fan can say: this solo is WEAK. Rarebell was a great composer and had a great influence on the Scorpions, but his time is pass. Now they have younger and better drummer.
So, compare live performances with Rarebell and then with Kottak.
Compare Blackout, The Zoo, Dynamite... Compare their solos.
I like Rarebell and as I said: he had a great impact on a Scorpions style. With him this band had its greatest successes. But talking that he is better than Kottak is funny.
Never said he was better. Read my comment. I said Rarebell is a good drummer.
Good day. The drumming on Tokyo Tapes is very good.
By the way, the Scorps are known as a guitar/vocal band anyway. The drummer takes a back seat in this band. Guitar band all the way. Starting with Schenker,Roth and Jabs as lead guitar players, you gotta know this. Been a fan since 1981.
My comment was about other opinions. The drumming on Tokyo Tapes is very good. Solo is very weak. I agree that Scorps = guitar band, but it doesn't change the fact that new drummer and bassist brought a lot of energy to the band.
All of the bands that played there were probably in the largest crowd they ever played. I saw them at the Monsters of Rock tour (Headlined by Van Haggar) and they were the best. Sounded just like all of their recordings...1988 Orange Bowl Miami. Best Live Band ever!
thanks for the video, great to see them..i also have this on VHS somewhere but don't have a video player anymore ha ha....they were one of the best bands on the entire bill...
There'a 5 tracks in total from the Scorpions set. Thought it best to upload them as I couldn't find them anywhere on the site. Have uploaded a Cinderella track but there are some tracks from other users from this festival.

herman rarebell, just look at him. do you know any drummer that moves like that when drumming? he looks incapable of not being so tense like a robot.
IceCreamAllTheTime 3 years ago
vaya y enseñele a tocar entonces...
go and teach him how to play drums...
oscarivan1021 3 years ago
pff do you really believe that H rarebell can't play other style, just scorpions like a robot?!!!
If you tell him to play tango, he will play tango or salsa or jazz or anything.
Anyway you have the right to make fun of him but don't forget he is a very good drummer.
marc93700 3 years ago
are you a drummer? if you were, you'd know he's very average.
