I have come up with an efficent way to end all mma ring fight trash talk on these traditional arts channel. Just gunn them all down with a rifle, they'll know how powerful their brute force physical strengths really are.
Until you cross hands with this master or one of his top students, you are all talk. Nothing but a keyboard warrior. Let us see you put your money where your mouth is. We are waiting to see a video of your encounter.
Also your strawman argument also falls down when it is publicly known by people who know this master has students that do compete, though the focus of training is not exclusively on sports. Also in the workshops, you can question any of the techniques and you will be allowed to spar anyone. These people cross hands with anyone. So lets see if your nothing but another keyboard warrior or not. Go to one of the workshops and ask to cross hands (respectfully). Video tape it for us.
I do not understand the comments on this page. What I see is a brilliant master who is teaching fundamental ideas of Tai Chi in a very simple way, and demonstrating effective fighting techniques at the same time. This video is one of the best tai chi instructional videos on YouTube. What are you people arguing about?
@lebarosky I dunno man. Some people just have their undies in a bunch. MMA, taijiquan, western/eastern boxing; it's all good, just get it on the floor.
so to people that talk about "real martial arts", how many people has this master killed in real life situations? lol. dont talk about how deadly something is until you kill someone with it.
@dxmakina I can talk about how deadly a handgun is all I want, and I definitely know my instructor has not murdered anyone with it. Think before you speak.
@mamba109 hey, real martial arts need to be effective. just like real medicine needs to be effective. people hiding behind the idea that its "too dangerous" to practice are also preventing ANY TYPE of testing of effectiveness, automatically assuming an art is deadly because an old man is teaching it to them. think before you type.
@dxmakina These forms were used for hundreds of years and are proven through WARS, not some scheduled fight with gloves. Look up Boxer Rebellion in China back in the 1900s, foreigners were slaughtered by skilled martial artists. Think before I speak? I'm not the one saying my teacher has to kill someone to prove that a martial art is effective. Read up on some history, then maybe you will know why some arts such as Tai Chi is called Grand Ultimate Fist.
@mamba109 none of that means the teacher has skill. it doesnt matter if someone was amazing a thousand years ago and could kill any man on earth in 2 seconds. YOU ARE THE ONE THAT MUST DEFEND YOURSELF, THAT MAN IS DEAD AND WILL NOT DO IT FOR YOU. if i called boxing grand ultimate boxing, it wont change the characteristics of boxing. the name has nothing to do with its effectiveness. if i called salt sugar, it would still taste like salt. think before you type.
@dxmakina You're argument is veering off into another direction. Are we talking about the martial arts, the teacher, or the student? Make a clear argument, and stick to it. You said the martial art is not proven deadly until a teacher has killed someone with it, I provided a counter point that it has been used in wars. Now all of a sudden you're talking about ones self, the student. Weren't we just talking about the art and not the person? Please, organize your thoughts, thanks.
@dxmakina And your main idea is "don't talk about how deadly something is until you kill someone with it." Guns are deadly, and I don't have to kill someone to prove it is deadly. You're argument is invalid.
Your logic is totally flawed with nothing but Strawman arguments (caricaturing (or stereotyping) a position to make it easier to attack..). Your error of logic lets us know that what you are saying about Master Chen Zhonghua is most probably BS!!! Nowhere in this video have I seen claims to deadliness. Please point out the specific minute and seconds where you saw that. I have never seen Master Chen claim that either. The burden of proof on that claim lies on you.
this is a good clip, and I love to be the dummy as this role is beneficial in better understanding the function of respective application. this master's skill is unique and outstanding !! thx for sharing !
HAHAHA, I've felt this master's power...tread very carefully. He's very gentle, but you can feel he has the power to take anyone down. With a smile. lol
Good Video...:-) It is very hard,(here in Italy) to find a school where TaiJi Quan is learned in its actual meaning, i.e. a martial art! IN 99% of cases, it's showed as some kind of very soft & sweet gymnastic for old & sick people or/and "new age" discipline... Don't misunderstand me : i'm a very pacific guy, i practiced traditional Karate for 15 years & i NEVER acted violently ... i hate violence & Martial Arts AREN't violent ...!
Ingve 1234: You talk about Ip Man movie and still you dont get it, look what Ip man says, Martial art dont have sex ore North ore south styles. Martial art is not only for fighting but a way of living. There is no style better then the other. It all depends on the fighter. Martial art is about helping people and gaining good health and making friends.
To win a hundred fights in a hundred battles is not the highest skill...but to win without fighting, is The Art of War // Sifu M.
That's why master don't waste time with ppl who don't understand, and think just because you have won something in the ring, then you are a great fighter. It just so obvious, I will only fight when I am in danger.. the journey to mastering self is within self, not the art of bashing someone else and bring home a medal or some prize.
amen- the key to a martial art is learning about balance & the natural way to move. only by ingraining this natural movement then in crisis situations u can learn to naturally apply it not the other way around
@Terryltk If you won something in the ring you acually is a great fighter, I dont understand why some ppl think you are not? But that dont mean you have a great understanding of fighting. So call master usually have great understanding of the art or fighting but don't necessary mean he will be a great fighter.
@mayoolkosw good.. so it means if you are a great fighter in the ring it doesn't make you a great fighter outside the ring because i have certainly heard of a lot of so-called champions in the ring getting whacked in real life...so when do we really need to "fight"..it is when our life is in danger not when we are in the ring glorifying ourselves with our ego to beat someone down
.. the methods of fighting maybe the same but the reasons and intentions for it i may say some are honorable and some may not be..sometimes we confuse ourselves on both...so again what was the purpose of learning the art of fighting, is it hurt someone or to cultivate oneself? that makes a difference between a sifu and a prized fighter, or a learned martial artist and a hooligan with many "skills" to beat someone
.. don't be mistaken because i have certainly heard of sifus or masters or sensei who can't fight but some of them know how to cultivate self compared to teaching how to break people's arm or beat up a guy with kicks and punches..the difference is what kind of masters or sifus
because the chinese saying : If you are a bad student - your sifu/ master/ trainer is at fault - when i say bad or unlearned it means one who has " lots of skills" but has no morality and no cultivation of self. the difference on the "product" of the sifu is either a human being with high morals or a senseless egoistic fighting animal. Thus as i know in chinese martial arts the sifus teach because it is part of chinese culture - the more skills you have the higher morality you should possess.
@Terryltk "Martial art is not for sport competition but for killing." This sounds cool at first but is actually flawed. The most effective way to kill is to use atomic bomb. Even gun is much more efficient at killing than martial art. In mordern society, most martial art masters never kill anyone. If they also don't participate competition, there is no way to know whether their skills are effective. This is like to claim self to be a swim master without ever swim in water.
@Terryltk Fighting without rule does not exist. Every martial art makes some assumptions about the fighting circumstances. It is only in these limited circumstances, martial art is effective. So, it does not make sense to say, without rule, my martial art is the most effective. In fact, without rule, any martial art will fail miserably against mordern fire weapon.
@Terryltk Therefore, the purpose of martial art is not to kill, but to improve physical health or to be effective in competition with rules, which is sport. I know some would argue that certain martial art is best at killing without weapon. But if one fails in a competition due to weaker strength, reaction, resistance, even one has some deadly dirty techniques, it is totally useless in mordern society.
some just don't understand that martial arts is not a sport. Its an art for killing and maiming, all the ppl fight in the rings with gloves? What for? Take off your gloves and the rules and really fight, and u will know how fast you will get hurt.just that fighting a true master will bring you down 10x more painful and 10x more faster. You want a real fight? How's death sounds to you??
Do not underestimate the ring fighters' techniques. If they are good in the ring with all the restrictions, they could be ten times better in street fights.
I would like to know if he would do some friendly sparring? Rarely do I see traditional styles willing to fight modern ones. I think new styles (and the MMA circle in general) could have things to learn, and such friendly sparring would also get exponents of traditional styles thinking more critically! Huxiang xuexi, huxiang bangzhu! Zenmeyang?
Well, I have never seen Master Chen Backdown from crossing hands with anybody. Come to one of his seminars and see for yourself. I only recommend that you approach him respectfully at all times.
I had the privilege to watch Chen Zhonghua push hands with Chen Sheng, one of Feng Zhiqiang's senior students, in 2001 when they came to Seattle (Calandra was there also). Fantastic skill (both Chens). It is truly a pity that I don't have a vid of that exchange! Thanks for this post - it is great to see the teaching style and the applications. Cheers.
What makes it even more intense is the fact that Calandra [the big guy] is as strong as an ox, was a NYC cop for 16 years, is a long time karate and jujutsu sensei, and teaches cops and CIA handcuffing techniques. Calandra ain't no little punk boy--he'll beat most people down in no time, but Master Chen throws him around like a doll.
The last sequence is more along the lines of a drill. When he's pushed he aligns himself so that the push goes directly to the ground and bounces back which forces the guy who's pushing to bounce back as well. I have experienced this with him before. It is not yang vs. yang, rather it is making a pure ground path through one's body and directing the redirected force where you want to.
IMO looks like he's demonstrating a (possibility to apply a) principle, not a technique. It's a simplified generalization of an attack. When a strong force is coming straight at you, one of the kind of forces you can generate for your possible counter.
Pretty nice stuff. I didn't understand the last sequence of the Master bouncing the student back though. No one would really attack like that. Furthermore, it seemed like Yang vs Yang, rather than neutralizing first.
In this video Master Chen is teaching application principles of the second form (er lu) of the chen style taijiquan Hong Jusheng practical method. My teacher is a disiple of Master Chen. When he teaches in seminars he actually crosses hands with participants to let them feel how effective the movements can be. He let me throw a punch at him and, trust me, my forearm was really sore besides being thrown to the floor. Chen style spiral movements allow you to neautralize and attack in one move.
I have come up with an efficent way to end all mma ring fight trash talk on these traditional arts channel. Just gunn them all down with a rifle, they'll know how powerful their brute force physical strengths really are.
