One of the best scenes in the film. Martha going for the Jugular - much to her regret. George puts her "Gas at a Peep" well and truly. Once the secret is ousted about their son - its blood and guts everywhere. I can watch this film over and over again. Wonderful Post.
@Waszma Geeezz.. I wish you straight men could deal with a bit of teasing without starting to fantasizing about some violent retribution... Thought of the day: how about hitting back just with words?
@Waszma Ok, but it always feel like if a woman gets bossy and unpleasant men can't handle it very well and first thing they think is about ass raping or something of that kind... Unfortunately there are a lot of bossy and unpleasant men, but women just put up with it!
What a good movie I read the play first and could follow along exactly, plus it made me realize how talented you have to be, to be an actor, they really brought the words to life
The whole cast was brilliant and as much as I love Elizabeth Taylor in this role, Sandy Dennis practically stole the film. I'm happy they both received recognition, though.
This is where most marriages end up. Beware newlyweds. This is what love really is, in spite of all appearances. The sweetest words in the english language aren't "I love you", but rather "I'm sure you'll fuck that up too", or "I'll get it, your royal fucking highness".
@cheeriosinabowl Mike Nichols said he never saw her be unkind to a single person and treated everyone equally nice. But I'm sure she and Richard Burton had their drunken fights and passion. But I don't think Taylor was as obnoxious or cold as this person in the film is. It's just great acting. She was good when she was with a great director she could trust.
@RichardElden Look who made another unwanted appearance to unload more dung on the amazing Taylor/Burton duo..."RichardElden"...a useless tub of brainless goo.
@Nieves57 I'm Full Prof. and sadly she was/is correct. With the cuts in education there will be lot more women saying those lines. Regardless what a great movie. Liz was and Dick were a good team.
One of my favorite movies ever. The acting of all four--Taylor, Burton, Segal, and Dennis--was incredible! This was a real pivotal movie in Hollywood, perhaps the first movie where a beuatiful superstar played a dark character, wicked and unkept and anyting but glamorous. RIP Dame Taylor. You were not only a superstar in Hollywood, but an angel in your work for AIDS research. The world is a lesser place without you in it.
@RichardElden, Elizabeth Taylor was 33 when this was filmed and gained weight for this role and was aged to look 20 yrs older. THIS WAS FILMED IN THE MID SIXTIES. I had the pleasure of meeting Ms Taylor in the early 90's and she was beautiful and very very nice.,unlike you.

IF YOU CAN'T SAY SOMETHING NICE ABOUT ELIZABETH....DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL. SHE DEVOTED HER AFTER-CAREER LIFE TO HELPING OTHERS SUFFERING WITH A DEADLY DISEASE. THAT, IN MY OPINION, DESERVES A PURPLE HEART!...NOT RIDICULE.
What intrigued me most about Taylor was the way she always maintained, for her sex outside of marriage was wrong, so she always married the men she loved. Also for some one who oozed sex appeal and was so feminine and voluptuous, she also drank like a fish, cursed like a sailor and rolled the floor with Burton on many an occasion. So I think she was was woman of great passion and contradictions. Love this film and have seen it numerous times.
When she did this movie, she put on weight and. Was made to look older for this part. Elizabeth Taylor was in her mid 30's when she did this and was the most beautiful woman in the world. This is true acting
I don't know why but I somehow like the way she says "Getting angry baby? huh?" I guess it is just Liz's talent keeping my attention. She will be missed!

RIP Liz, and say hi to PI
Hell yes. And not to mention Eli Wallach, Mickey Rooney, Luise Rainer, Joan Fontaine, AND Maureen O'Hara.
Still, very sad that she's died. I was born a long time after she stopped making movies, but I felt quite hollow when I heard she was dead. RIP ELIZABETH TAYLOR.
@vocm10 Yes, you have a point. There are still some from that era who are still with us, but Ms. Taylor is such an icon from that time. Sad that this era is slowly fading away, but they left such a great body of work behind.

Elizabeth Taylor…truly one of the most beautiful women to ever grace the silver screen. I was born the same year as her, and this allowed me to follow her career from the start. Despite some of her personal problems, I never allowed it to change my opinion of her. A classic beauty and a great actress!.

@JuanMacready Dude, it's been at least 9 months since you've begun spamming this video with your distasteful comments. And it's been over 40 years since this movie premiered. Get over yourself!
Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf? Marriage counselors, the Catholic Church, priests, old fashioned parents, in 1966, the MPAA, etc. etc.... the list goes on and on.

This is acting at it's finest. The chemistry is magical and so are the camera angles.

So great. I hated her character when I first saw the film, then at the epiphany at the end, I reversed. What writing.

Great, but I wish I could've seen the 2 actors originally considered for the George and Martha film roles: Henry Fonda and Betty Davis.
