this race pisses me off so much i cant even catch up to the last car. i just watched this vid and thought "oh whatever". im going to try to imitate your driving path and see if i can make some progress. the time i have to beat on a lap is 45 seconds so im gonna practice there with that car

I finally did it!! I ve been a bit slower than you (6:47,2) but I did it!! I cant believe it!! I had given up that mission and yesterday night I did it in no more than 7 or 8 attempts!! I guess all I needed was to see somebody doing it so I realised that it was possible.
So thank you so much buddy, I think I owe you this win.
That was great driving mate. Even though, you made a few mistakes in the third lap, so I found it very surprising you managed to reach the first. I believe that the first might have screwed it up somewhere and you took advantage of that. Man I really got close to win this freaking mission but never did, so I gave up. I also found the special conditions races very tricky, but I managed with that ones.
So here's the deal, in response to your reply, I did give it a rest, went to bed, and tried again the next morning. STILL no luck after 30 attempts. I can't seem to pass the first car (5th place car) at the time in which you do. I was close on my 18th try, but still no avail.
Unfortunately, persistence always seems to leave me once frustration is at the doorstep; and that's why I can't beat any 3 lap missions, or the other 1 lap missions. I just suck at this game =(

also for anyone else needing help, I used automatic transmission and r2 to get max out of every gear- I found on the 1st lap you are looking to be 26.5 behind the lead car at 1st split and 23.6 behind on second split - hope this helps anyone who struggled as much as I did

I see you downshift very fast- I prefer automatic, as long as you hold this car out of first gear (in which the shift to second is very long). Thing with shifting down very quickly, as you mentioned, it makes the car very squirmy it seems. Your really good!
It does squirm a lot if you're turning - it only slows well in a straight line, so shifting down quickly didn't seem to make it squirm (for me, anyway!). Thanks. :D

No special technique: just got to remember this car does not corner well so you have to be at the correct speed going into the corner. You'll notice I brake hard before each corner & then coast (almost) around them - accelerating on exit.

You need to get used to braking very hard late. The car brakes in a straight line very easily so aim the car at a reasonable point for the corner, brake very hard & let go of the brake as you begin to turn (hoping that you started to brake at the correct time!). There's an "EyeToy" which is a webcam, but very few games support it.
You've got to get used to very late and very hard braking so that as soon as your braking stops you are at the correct part of the corner to start accelerating again. Slipstreaming helps too.

The TV output from the console goes via the VCR & the VCR output goes to both a TV capture card in the PC & the TV... Capture & play.

Damn that was some impressive driving, I've been trying that one for a week now and I can only get to within 3secs of the lead car.

Nailing the braking - all of the corners are sharp, so you need to be going slow around them but it doesn't mean you should be slow going in. ;)
