But the listed corporations are petroleum companies; so you're point, or whatever you call that whining you're doing, pretty much fails. I'm taking it you haven't seriously looked through the proposed energy portfolios of most major utilities, because its sounds like most utilities are way more progressive on energy sources than you are.

The amount of fissionable material for fuel is decreasing very quickly. Nuclear power really only is a stop gap, but is a short term solution. In truth, nuclear power is just a stepping stone, and what needs to be done is a national energy research program. Fusion is our only hope, really.
Obama also authorized about 8 billion for loan guarantees for nuclear power plants. So I dont know where you get the "freak lefties" notion from.

Granted the containment vessel didn't get compromised like in Chernobyl but the #2 reactor still totally melted down thanks to a coolant system failure. The bottom line is you will have accidents (we've had many near misses before and since three mile island), even if you only have them once every 100 years. With nuclear the effects of an accident last for thousands of years, making it undesirable as a massive form of power.
