Well, water and ice behave differently under such high pressures of the deep ocean, but I suspect that the flow rate of the oil had a great deal to do with why both of the "Hats" failed.
The metal containment box BP made appears in the other video from BP to have failed because it was designed for a flow rate of 5,000 barrels rather than the actual flow of 50,000 to 80,000 barrels per day. It is just lifting off under the pressure of tghe flow. This may have been why the original drill pipe failed. It wasn't designed for the flow rate that exists.
I'm pretty sure they need to place a giant sleeve over this thing before they put a cap on it. Even if it has to be several hundred feet tall..... they need to get the area to be capped up to a level where it is easier to work with. Seems like they are dragging their feet on purpose?
If the containment box was really blocked by ice wouldn't the hot oil melt the ice?

Damn this oil spill will take 5-10 years to clean it about size of long island, CT, RI, etc. tiny ship won't do much....
