I may not be American, but his argument seems flawed. A very wide range of people migrated to the USA, not just western Europeans. For a long time, America depended upon but did not recognize these people. African slaves and women were not compensated for their labour, and other ethnic groups were barred from achieving success. Sure, America "stood for" its principles, but human beings are fallible and make mistakes. (Most) humans, however, learn from those mistakes. How else would science work?

They wanted to free people - the whole project was about emancipation from authoritarian dogma, alienated consumption, and misuse of rationality. Freeing mankind from prejudice, unreason, resentment, etc. - this has been part of the Western philosophical project for 100's of years...

The idea of property was even farther from how we today conceive of it in the world outside Europe. The modern legal/economic conception of private property had no meaning to the majority of the world's population until the 19th century.
