  • Tales of Phantasia?

  • crono trigger vuela traseros

  • This whole week I have been playing Final Fantasy VI on my Samsung SNES emulator... and for this video to start with that game... well... that just made my day. :D

  • SNES had shitty kiddie RPG's just look at this video.

I preferred PhantasyStar2,4, Shining Force 1,2,CD, Lunar 1, 2, and then Snatcher and Vay.

LoZ LTTP, FF2, FF3, CT were all good but would have been alot better on Sega CD ;)

  • most of those games are ones that i love especially Chrono Trigger, Secret of Evermore, Brainlord, and Illusion of Gaia, but how could you not have Star Ocean and Tales of Phantasia on there

  • lufia 2 is incredible! my personal fav from this is chrono trigger. i bought that sucker for $75 new in feb 1996 from electronics boutique before gamestop the evil empire started and when funcoland was around

  • Secret of Evermore FTW!

    Love love love that game.

Ilusion of gaia is awesome to but not as good!

  • Old school or new school I just love a good game.

  • Glad Robo trek is in there. Rpgs aren't what they used to be sadly.. :( Good upload though. =) Btw, like Rpgs check out my channel.

  • I love playing RPG's, but the random fights were to frequent for my liking; especially when they were in dungeons.

  • SNES was the best Game Console. The best of the bests was there! And Terranigma can i play again and again. Nice Tribute

  • Need to add Star Ocean.

  • And you even used the boss-battle music from Act Raiser, one of my all time favorites. Well done, sir.

  • i miss Tales of Phantasia : /

  • Oh yea...Legend of Zelda a Link to the Past share the 1st place to Crono Trigger on my list. But I find it more adventuring than a Role play game, as you dont gain experience and levels like the rest does.

  • 1: Crono Trigger 2: Final Fantasy VI 3: Final Fantasy V (because of jobs) 4: Terranigma 5: The Adventure of Hourai High School (Japanese, but has been translated) 6: Earthbound 7: Illusion of Gaia 8: Secret of Mana 1 and 2 ("3") (Cant deside) 9: Lufia 1 or 2 (Cant deside) 10: Super Mario RPG (kinda like the Super Mario RPG Revolution hack better) This is my Favorite SNES RPG games. I wonder why we dont made 2D sprites games anymore....just because there is 3D now?
  • What the fuck is Illusion of Gaia? :P "Illusion of Time", pls!

  • @wolfsk1n I think Illusion of Time is JP version as Illusion of Gaia is US/EU version, but I may be wrong....perhaps opposite.

  • someone please tell me the name of the second game played in the video with hero vs. behemoth. I abso must know I never finished it but I was so young I dont remember the name of it..... PLEASE HELP!!!!

  • What about 7th Saga

  • Soul Blazer was such a dope game.

  • You forgot Tactics Ogre!!!

  • :O no actraiser? well i guess its not really an rpg

  • Aside from robotrek and Soul blazer, I have played through all of these countless times. Wonderful list.

  • The SNES IS a wonderful console!

I still have one. And some games.

  • I'll agree the ones I know that were in there are awesome but some rpgs that I had were pains in the butt because I hadn't play the for a long time so I had no clue what was going on.

  • I disagree that the SNES days were the golden age of rpgs. I think that the golden age of RPGs was from the time the PS2 came out up to this point. See, you don't distinguish console RPGs, most of which are from Japan, from western computer RPGs.

  • Uh..Zelda isn't an RPG...

  • @KissMeImPunk disagree.

  • @MrRedSnowman Has no leveling up, stat increases, no party members, nothing resembling a typical generic RPG.

  • @KissMeImPunk you gain hearts (in essence, levels), different armors and weapons (increase your stats), and having party members is not necessary for an RPG. I know where you are coming from, Zelda is more action adventure, but fundamentally, RPG's are role playing games, and you play a role in Zelda, that is what it comes down to. That is where I disagree with you and I have no qualms with Zelda being on this list, just saying :)

  • @KissMeImPunk Yes it is,

An RPG is a Role Playing Game, you play the role of link, I love love to see you post this on gamefaqs, oh god, I hope you haven't, that would be a shitshow.

  • @KissMeImPunk yea but it did give inspiration

to rpg's and has many rpg quality's

  • @Caydiem

i actually own secret of evermore for the snes (that actual cartridge), and after only playing it on a emulator, i'm very happy that i'll be getting to play the original version on my friend's snes. you can't get the full experince unless you play it how it was intended to be played

  • wait wait wait.... the official accepted "golden age of gaming" is from pong untill the 80's crash, the nes-n64 era is known as the silver age.. there is no name for the dreamcast to now era.

  • I thought Terranigma was awesome, but you don't hear much about it..lol

  • Terranigma rocks !!!!!

  • mystic quest lol i know lots of people who thought it was crap, but i gave it a try and couldnt stop playing it till i pasted it!

  • Hey!!!! I know that robot game!!!!

  • what game is at 3:21?

  • @CloudandZack1st

Terranigma ! The Secret of Mana Killer.

  • @TheZizazozu Thank You! Now i have something to play on my psp =D

  • When Games Had Soul.

  • wait... shouldnt number 8 be final fantasy number 2?

  • p.s. this is seriously the best rpg list i've ever seen for the snes. All these games are absolutely amaaaazing

  • hella epic intro music, is that act raiser music?

  • The SNES/PS1 era was the golden age of RPGs. No new RPG can never come close to games like Lufia 2, Final Fantasy 6, Xenogears, Grandia, Secret of Mana series, Tales of Phantasia, etc

  • People who actually didn't played snes rpgs wasted their childhood time.

  • What music is this?

  • @warri9 its from another snes game Actraiser but it sounds like a remix

  • ahh loved it great ending with the dual blade

  • Oh god I remember mystic quest

LMAO i had it wen i was lil and i couldnt get the hang out it LOL

  • this video brings tears to my eyes.... a great time for RPGs!

  • Zelda's not an RPG!

  • @violink4swords Just because its not turned based fighting system you think its not an RPG *Sigh*

  • @SevenLivesManyFaces it's not because of turn based, what defines rpgs are a stat system i mean ALTTP has HP and MP but then all of your strength is dependent mostly on skill. in zelda games you can still make it to the final boss with three hearts though usually the weapon upgrades are mandatory, let's see you take secret of mana and not to any leveling what so ever. seriously, post a video of you taking on a final boss from any game on the list without any leveling of your spells and character

  • @violink4swords I still don't understand why you don't think its an RPG, (Role Playing Game) just means you assume the role of a character and in a way imagine you are him, and RPG's can all have different styles of game play! developers can try new and different ideas!

  • @SevenLivesManyFaces by that definition though, you could refer to pretty much anyvideo game that has a main playable charcter so mario. animal crossing, pheonix wright, f-zero,

basically everything but tetris is an RPG then

  • @violink4swords We discovered something new!!!

  • @violink4swords i used to think the same thing.... but it is actually classified as a "action RPG" (similar to okami, or dark cloud) it's somewhat are unorthodox though

  • @sayastra no, those are action adventure like mario 64 but not platformer

my point is that secret of mana, soul blazer, and illusion of gaia are action rpg

if you compare everything on the list, Zelda stands the farthest away

    Rpg>ActionRPG<ActionAdventure

the only way to compare zelda to the rest is to look at Dragon Warrior 1

New sword replaces old, new shield replaces old, new armor replaces old

that Hp and Mp are the only similarities and ocarina of time actually kept all of your stuff

  • @violink4swords that doesn't work... mario 64 is a platformer, and it's emphasis is on platforming. It is further out there... but still, many consider it to be (the first if you're going with Zelda for the NES) action rpg

  • @sayastra mario 64 witout platforming just the kill things, get stuff and explore is what i meant like if you jut had a field with nothing but goombas, no need to jump or fall off cliffs in fact, majora's mask's flight segments and alot of windwaker's bonus area's show platforming, just not soley

when shigeru miyamoto was making zelda, he was aiming to create a whole new genre based on exploration, the adventure genre kinda.

combined with platforming and shooter= Super Metroid

  • @violink4swords okay i don't know what you're on about....i'm walking away from this one...

  • @sayastra that's a good idea, i'll do the same

  • @sayastra as far as the newer zelda's go you may as well call them the Everything genre

the hack and slash action rpg puzzle shooting adventure platformer genre i guess

  • snes rpg's are better and more challenging then ps1 rpg's.

  • Earthbound is my personal favorite

  • what game is at 2:46

  • @Syndo breath of fire 2 i think

  • what game is that at 0:47

  • act raiser kicks ass! I remember playing it when I was a little kid and man was I scared by the pyramid level, and the underground caverns where you fight a minotaur. Scary shit. I loved fighting against the Ice dragon. I could never beat act raiser 2 though. The music of your video shows how bad ass the soundtrack to act raiser was.

  • Brother you forgot the ACTRAISER GAMES!!!!

  • Dude i think i love you, ive been searching so long for Ys III: Wanderers from Ys but i didnt remember the name, saw it on your vid and remembered right away, i love the game intro music thanks a million.

  • BUT WHAT ABOUT .... GAME!!!! Just kidding I enjoyed the vid. I actually like that the vid of each game is not simply the first thirty seconds but toward the end if the not the end of some of the games on the list. The SNES is responsible for me playing RPGs so this tribute is pretty nastalgic. Again, great job.

  • or like.. cant 5/5 anymore =S

  • Nice list! 5/5 and fave =)

  • Final Fantasy 3 is so damn good. I'm going to get Illusion of Gaia, never played it but it looks awesome!

  • the snes:the BEST console for non portable 90`s rpgs!

  • Epic.

  • I dunno whats more pathetic, the fact ive played all these rpgs... or the fact i beat them all lol

  • Great games no doubt, especially chrono trigger, but where are the dragon warrior titles? Those were amazing games.

  • terranigma and chrono trigger are my favorites from this list uhmm i wish they would make a remake of terranigma for nintendo ds like they did for chrono trigger

  • Comment removed

  • I'm glad you showed Secret of Evermore and Terranigma.

Almost everyone seems to forget about them.

  • what is the game at 2:23 ?????

  • That's Brain Lord. A very solid and fun game that never got the attention it deserved. Some of those puzzles will hurt your brain!

  • check his legend thingy to the right. has all games listed

  • Nice list. illusion of Gaia is definitely a great game that many overlooked.

  • Awesome Video!!!!

I pretty much played all those games.

Man the Megadrive and Snes era was truly the golden age of RPG gaming.

I would love to see a megadrive rpg tribute.

  • Nice tribute. And I agree, the SNES era was the golden age of RPGs. Many classics

  • Thanks! Yes, sure, the SNES had the best RPGs of all time.

  • @Retroup

    I think its playstation one.

  • @Retroup How about Ps1 rpgs vs Snes rpgs!!

I think the ps1 Wins in best rpgs!!

    Xenogears,ChronoCross,Legend of Dragoon,Wild Arms1,2,Suikoden1,2,Tales of Destiny1,2,Legend of Mana,Vagrant story, FinalFantasy7,8,9, and many more!!!!

  • @dazeofreality

Maybe -- but only if the term best encompasses notions of baffling incoherence and utterly senseless Japanese imports. Seriously -- did those games even make any sense in JAPAN? Truly awful, self-referential and infinitely derivative storylines, brother.

What you guys are feeling here is best characterized as nostalgia. Which is cool. You love what you first discovered and you have a soft spot for it. That's fine, if subjective. In reality, they suck.

  • what is the last game? at ;east give us the list of the games...

  • It's the Lufia II, and I put a list now.

  • Nice video!! Great selection!! Nice music!!

  • Thanks friend. ^^
