I could have sworn Uru was an MMORPG world based on the Myst timeline. Yet, here I see this guy playing without multiplayer interaction and I even saw Uru for sale on STEAM. Anyone know any way to clear this up?

Also, I do remember playing Uru for free. I do feel as though I'm missing something.

@deathscreton It was later released as a commerical solo player game. Subesquent planned ages were released as add ons. Today, you can get the whole thing as one game: 'Uru: Complete Chroicles'

i got up to a land with mushrooms and it froze whenever i went there so i cant play it. it was fun exploring the worlds and figuring out what im doing but after a while i just couldnt find where to go next

I loved it.. but I came in just as they were closing down URU online. It was really interesting to get online to find that it had the exact same sense of loneliness and desperation that all the Myst games had. I wish it would have worked out. I would have spent hours and hours exploring there even if only to occasionally meet someone by chance. I really thought they were on to something by not having any way to communicate other then to actually come across someone. Brilliant.

The first Myst linkingbook (the one the stranger finds) landed on Earth after Atrus jumped in the Star Fissure with it and linked. So its only natural that some parts of Riven that were sucked into the Fissure landed on Earth as well. Even the stranger got back to Earth by falling into the Fissure.

This is my favorite of the myst games! It still has that same feel of running around by yourself in these eery and gorgeous worlds, solving puzzles that require you to keep your *own* journal of everything you see (so that the fantasy spills out onto the reality of your desk, lol), but you can run around anywhere you want to instead of clicking your way down paths, so it feels even *more* immersive because you can interact with it more like real world. :D

When I first come to the "wide open" scene, I was dumbfounded!!! I had a large monitor and said out loud "Why can't all games give us this wonderful 360 experience"!!! I could walk for miles in this terrain if they made it interesting. And the guy at the trailer scene, A laid-back classic! Music and All!!!!

I want Cyan to make a game purely about the D'ni civilization. they should make the entire city(not just Ae'gura) in the cavern-- sandbox gameplay, and it should be an RPG also where you can become a guild member of whichever class :) thumbs up if you agree! The MYST universe isn't over yet!

You can play URU live for free. Cyan started a free version last February. There are some differences. The core ages that you played in single player are there, but there is also extra content. There are also player created events such as marker games and concerts. Just go to mystonline , com and look for the play link.

Yep, they did, however, retcon the location of the cleft to New Mexico rather than somewhere in the Middle East (as shown in the novels).

@eugenm There is no save game section in Uru. You can "bookmark" places, touching the journey cloths and then returning to that journey cloth through the linking book.

Otherwise, the game saves itself automatically.

I had the fortune to participate in both Live 2003 (the original Uru Live) and GameTap's resurrection, Live 2006. While I enjoyed both, the first time around was a truly unforgettable experience: not only was it fresh and new then, but Cyan had a lot of manpower at that time and were able to do new content development and storyline building fairly quickly. During Live 2006, Cyan was frankly a shell of its former self and couldn't do as much active development as before.

And Cyan won't be hosting their own shards, but they have indicated a desire to release the code and tools to the public so that users can host their own shards and do their own development (essentially making it an open-source project). It's been a while since Cyan's said anything about that, though...
