It is really sad to see the way some people speak of these fine candidates who are giving up their personal lives for over a year to run for office. They are all fine people and don't deserve harsh words. Mike Huckabee is the finest politician I have ever seen and an inspiration to us all. He WILL win the presidency in 2012 or 2016 (depending on what happens in Nov)

grahambailey: when talking about millions of people, there will be thousands with SAT scores of 1600, thousands with 1599, and so on. Because of that, we can always find U.S. citizens who are as qualified as any illegal alien.

The question isn't why we would deprive illegal aliens, it's why we should deprive U.S. citizens, when illegal aliens are, by definition, citizens of another country and can seek education there.

Huckabee, realizing that his super soft record on illegal immigration was going to ruin his presidential aspirations, has just come out with a new "get tough" immigration enforcement plan - which gives all illegals 120 days to register and leave the country or face a 10 year ban on entering the U.S.

The question is - will those who register and leave be able to (almost immediately) return to the U.S. legally? If so - this is nothing more than the Kennedy-McCain plan in new dress.

Huckabee isn't even talking about tuition cuts for illegals, he's talking about the Arkansas Academic Challenge scholarship which is open to ALL qualifying kids. He's saying that if kids of illegals who have been in Arkansas schools since kindergarten can meet the qualifications, they should be able to apply for the scholarship. It's not about a tuition cut people! It IS available to all Arkansas kids, my own kids will be applying.

"Any tuition rate that is granted to residents of Arkansas shall be granted on the same terms to all persons, regardless of immigration status, who have attended a secondary educational institution in Arkansas for at least three (3) years and who have either graduated from an Arkansas high school or received a general education diploma in the state."

But that is not what he is talking about here. If you read through the provisions of the AACS, the qualifications he mentions here are almost word for word the same. Even if he were talking about what you said, it didn't pass.

Don't get me wrong, I hate that my state has been overrun by illegals. I haven't seen anyone out there with a solid plan to get rid of every single one of them. But like someone else asked me, if he stole my car and drove his kids around in it for 15 years, would I give the car to his kids? shojo29: if he was only refering the the AACS, then he should have specified that. As it is, he gave viewers the false impression that, had the bill passed, it would only give access to tough programs like AACS instead of giving them all the benefits that citizens are entitled to.

CNN REP DEBATE 11-28-07: Did you see/hear that ignorant fool, Jeff Toobin, the CNN "analyst" after the debate. He had no idea about the NAU or SPP. He said that the NAU/SPP "Was a figment of Ron Paul's imagination" . Video makers should have a field day with this!!!!

Absolutely. This is a non-issue if you look at the facts. Huckabee is strong on illegal immigration....he just also happens to have a loving heart. It's a nice combo. He doesn't apologize for that.

Last night's exchange caused me to doubt Huckabee's ability to make the tough choices that elected officials must make. He believes that his position on this issue is the compassionate position. But he forgets that the money he would give to the children of illegals is not his money. It's easy to spend other people's money on a so-called good cause. Liberals do it all the time.

StockDoubling: I never called it a "law", only a "bill". Nor is there anything in there implying that it passed. The fact that it passed their House and not their Senate is immaterial to Huckabee's contemporaneous - and continued - support for the bill.
