Artists need a space to express their feelings. There are no correct feelings. Take away from this what you will but your reaction is your own. I wouldn't have done it this way, but I appreciate they did something. I did nothing but write this stupid comment.
@BobtheBoyWonderin what bothers me is that people are taking issue with my comments on how world war 2 really went down, instead of the fact that i greenscreened myself into a tragedy, which i struggled with, lost sleep and was completely fucked up from editing all this footage. its stunning really, america fucking disgusts me. the apathy, the ignorance, all of it will be our undoing. keep playing your fiddles on your couch yall, don't spill pizza grease on the couch, your kids might slip.
@soleonedotorg I really like everything what you've been doing with your music lately. At first, I didn't quite get what you were doing. Now, I'm starting to understand a little. It's teaching me a lot about how it REALLY is.
It is astonishing how on one hand Sole can afford to be offbeat for a whole verse without sounding amateur and how Jared Paul on the other hand sounds like a 15 year old trying to rap over a beat that a friend sent him with his last email.
"That's a fact, look it up !" dude, this is not a discussion in your basement about scientology. If you have to include this kind of mention in your verse, you're doing it wrong.
Sorry, just a big Sole fan disapointed by this collaboration.
@MrEcrelinf Sorry, but I'm a sole fan thats not disappointed. This was thrown together in a short amount of time, intelligently, and its disappointing that you can't appreciate that.
Sole is a true humanitarian and easily one of the greatest rappers ever to live. As Americans we must speak out and rest our hands from under a sink. Japan has endured so many atrocities in the last 66 years it makes me want to cry thinking about it all.
Why the need for subtitles? It takes away from you message. Do you feel your fans are dumb and can't comprehend? What if a quake does hit Wall St or the Bible Belt? Will you do a song for them? What do people's religious beliefs, World War II and their choice of profession have to do with this travesty? This is very skewed. Your message is mixed. You agenda is all over the place.
@thisisnotthetruth Who said anything about Sole fans? This isn't a new single from a new record, it's a song thrown together in a matter of days to raise awareness. This is the internet, not your indie hip-hop vinyl store. I have to assume this is intended to reach a broader audience.
As far as mixed messages & agendas go, I'm a firm believer that the onus is on you and I (and everyone else) to get exposed to information, then do our own research and draw our own conclusions.
@thisisnotthetruth Im just going to answer as directly as possible. i like the subtitles, they are useful. plus not everyone speaks english...and as a hip hop head, these lyrics are to be remembered, the information. wall st is the mecca of capitalism, the machine funding the continual production of environmentally hazardous materials, and the death of thirdworld populations for over a century. GLOBALIZATION.
@mks7 What does any of that have to do with the tragedy in Japan? Nothing, really. The connections there are weak, which is where most of the complaints about this song come from. Besides that, the rapping is fucking terrible. I hate to keep popping up talking nothing but negativity, but come on. Sole's not even on beat AT ALL throughout this whole track. What kind of fucking rapper with any skill can't get on the fucking beat? Just because he owns a record label doesn't mean he's any good.
this song blows. and by blows i mean dick. i am pumped that artists are doing what they can to help the victims in japan, but this song conflates their tragedy with misplaced emphasis on US foreign relations. that tsunamis do not hit wall street or the bible belt or that truman dropped atoms bombs on japan is totally irrelevant to this tragedy. you all are too quick to praise this garbage. japan's nuclear meltdown is ironic. i get it. but the US is nowhere near that irony. youreallsheep.getsome.
@getsomeatyousuckorg history is a chain of events. when you ignore history and its lessons, you are bound to repeat it. saying "truman dropped atom bombs is irrelevant," is like saying vietnam is irrelevant to afghanistan. we could have made a "we are the world" milktoast anthem, but i didn't, because the role of artist is both to raise money for japan, and inform. the non nuclear movement only exists because nuclear energy is DANGEROUS. and we are seeing first hand its human cost.
@soleonedotorg granted that history is a chain of events. but chains get attenuated. japan's choice to use nuclear energy is irrelevant the truman's decision to drop nukes. Even if history is a chain of events, does not change the fact that it is irrelevant that tsumanis dont hit the bible belt or wall street. you shouldnt make a milktoast album, but your 'informing' shouldnt import US policy into a tragedy of a 3rd party. nuclear energy is dangerous, but so is gunpowder, and fireworks are sick
More artists need to be making vids about japans plight (The earths plight) and not just saying they care in mtv bet etc clips. Thanks Sole for being honest.
@itsjustlikesleeping You mean like using the tragedy in Japan (the tsunami and the death and destruction it caused) as an excuse to talk about how bad the US, corporations, nuclear energy, and capitalism is? There are still reports of bodies being found in fields and other remote areas that were carried there when their villages were washed away during a natural disaster. The things addressed in this song need to be addressed, but not when the song is supposed to be about Japan and the tsunami.
@Crusader74 So you're okay with these musicians using the deaths of thousands of Japanese people to talk about their own agenda--stuff that is in no significant way related to the tragedy that happened? I personally think it's a bad choice. "Oh! Everyone's looking this way! Time to plug my own agenda and piggyback it into relevance by saying it's to benefit those suffering from the earthquake and tsunami!" This isn't even to mention the fact that the actual rapping done is terrible.
@Crusader74 You want to know something that's not a secret? 98% of Sole's music sounds exactly the same, talking about the same shit. By your own argument, he's basically using the tragedy in Japan and the thousands of people that perished during the tsunami to push his agenda (which doesn't seem to be helping those affected by the disaster). He's certainly not pulling the wool off of anyone's eyes.
