He nailed it. "We have to go on to school to learn about ourselves, We have to go on to school to learn about the nature of things. And until nature study is the the basis of our education, will we be in danger of all of the [isms] that one could make."
Your right, i do not read books or see documentaries on frank lloyd wright, that's why i got so angry about the topic. cause i know nothing about it, and i am definitly a submoron.
but i like to think there might be still hope, so please, spend some time reading his books and try, if you can, to UNDERSTAND why he behaved the ways he did.
He made exquisite buildings, but he was a ridiculous thinker... calling himself an 'individualist' but so godawfully dependent upon the institutions that provided him patronage.... and in that, he was a liar...
@uppopolo actually if you've READ brendan gill's MANY MASKS bio on FLW, or viewed ken burns' documentary series on FLW, you'd KNOW that FLW was indeed a liar and rather much of a charlatan -- this despite his amazing and stunning architecture, which i devoutly love...
but i'm guessing you're a submoron who neither reads nor views anything as substantive and perhaps boring as a documentary...
@bbbbmer You apparently have acquired all your 'truths" about Wright from one book. And you have the audacity to call someone else a moron? Actually, it is YOU who is the typical YouTube lowlife: ignorant and proud of it!
Part 2 - Quite naive, and presumptuous (in the manner of philosophers) - to take on a 3500 year old paradigm on man's relation to the cosmos and to G-d. Don't attack all at once, Wright devotees!
Part 1 - Wright was a bright guy, but alas, quite juvenile in his spiritual/theological speculations. He refers to a large and majestic church in New York as being "contrary to Nature" and this, somehow, points to a defect in it's spiritual aspect. But isn't this the point of the Western faith traditions? - to present the "beyond nature" to the faithful and hence to engender humility and reverence.
My goodness! It's as though Mike Wallace took an attacking stance on everything FLW believed in on purpose, deliberately. I think this is typical of the anti-Communist fervor of the late 1950s and early 60s: to go after anyone who did not take a clear stand against it and paint them as anti-American. FLW carried himself with great poise and dignity in spite of it.
This represents, to me, a moment in American history where folks could have gone for FLW, clear-headedness, human equity, integrity, etc. But, instead we went for the Wallace inane bantering and petty posturing. That's where we still are, and have always been, unfortunately.
@r5768 Exactly and so he unwittingly illustrates Wright's points. Wallace is intelligent but so hopelessly conditioned. Not much has changed except these guys can't chain smoke on TV anymore.

Why did Wallace have this uncomfortable look on his face when he said "I understand that you attend no church"? Did he mean that in a bad way?

What extraordinarily bright man. I wonder how he came about these ideas since they have a lot in common with oriental mythologies.

FLW was way ahead of his time in his architecture and thinking.
I'll bet he considered it an insult that Wallace interviewed him , I do.
