my parents would always explain to me that santa didn't get you that because he knew it was something that i want old enough to take care of. you say your 7 year old wants a phone? ask her what she would use it for and tell her the big responsibilities that come along with it. orrrr you could also say santa was running late and couldn't get it, that he left you a note...trust me..i read the same note for a couple years -.-
I'm with you on the cell phone. I think 13 is a reasonable age for a first cell phone. Because, it is when children are starting to hang out with their friends more often and not always with their parents. But, at 7? No, no way!
You have to make them feel that the gifts they are getting are just as good or even better than their 'top pick'. If that doesn't work, you should tell them to be thankful for the gifts they got. I know how they feel when they don't get the perfect gift, but as I was always told, be thankful for the things you have.
@mrjohnnyscarface Johnny - they only watch the videos I let them see.... They aren't on the computer without me around. (and still I was careful with my verbiage about Santa :) And thank you. The tree makes me happy.
@extraordinarymommy Gotcha! Just because you reviewed that Santa wont bring gifts that Mom and Dad think is not ok that's why I asked. I'm sure your kids will turn out amazing based on how strong you are Danielle =)
This is cmming from a 17 year ld teen.

I'm the worst. I end up getting them pretty much everything... except pets. They know we don't gift anything with a pulse ever.
But we don't celebrate Xmas so I can't blame it on Santa.
