This week's financial meltdown is just the latest Republican failure.

We have Bush, McCain, and the Republicans to also thank for

the largest deficits in history, the most mortgage defaults since the depression, the biggest income gap since the 20s, crashing markets, fleeing jobs, no energy policy, a $700 billion dollar war, 7000 dead, and Bin Laden still out there.

8 years of Bush and 12 years of Republicans produced these disaster.

Clinton put the screws to FRE and FNM to give loans to folks that did not meet historical standards -- the root cause. Dems in 90's and 00's repeatedly supported the bad lending at FRE and FNM --- you DEMs need to realize the problems of today are not all from our current pres. Clinton also failed to prevent 9-11 and take out Bin Laden. You should add to your stats the number of dead terrorists.

Kguy, I agree with you on most of those points.

From a close read of Obama's books and campaign, I think he's a genuine reformer, who wants to replace gridlock with constructive action.

As you note, he'll find enemies on both sides of the aisle and both sides of the street in Washington.

But I think his campaign shows he also has the strategic cunning and political skills to build a new activist base to support reform.

McCain couldn't do that.

I'm optimistic. It's about time.

Ayers is a bogus issue, raised by Republicans who can't defend their record.

Obama was asked by community leaders in Chicago to head a board that oversaw a large grant that Ayers had won funding for.

Obama did that job well and, in the process, won the respect of his board and the Chicago community .

Obama's board met with Ayers 6 times in 6 years.

Friday's headline says it all: "Obama Has Met Ayers, but the Two Are Not Close". Google it.
