  • its clear you need 4:2:2, 7d is 4:2:0

  • so what's the final verdict?

  • with the 7d you got to go buy external audio, an external audio recorder and a monitor.

  • @alanscam there should be data recorded on the lens used for the canon cause when it records it leaves a data file laying around in the recorded sd card/compact card.

  • The Panasonic is easier to use and has better ergonomics, but it's sensor is too small to give that film-like image. The Canon 7D produces a more film like image and has better low-light capabilities.

  • regardless what the canon fanboys might say. The HMC150 clearly wins. More neutral image, no rolling shutter, better retail drawing, no drowning blacks and highlights. The crushing dark areas of the 7D footage makes it kinda useless for later grading.

  • canon 7d good points: More Depth of Feild, Sharper Image due to bigger chip, interchangable lenses, much cheaper, more compact and portable

Panasonic Good Points: No rolling shutter, autofocus, XLR, LCD and viewfinder, longer record times and cheaper media.

I've got a 7D and love it, my 2nd choice was the HMC150 but the 7D is better suited for the work I do.

  • @nicolmedia yea but by the time you buy external audio, and audio recorder and even a monitor they are closer in price.

  • you guys are making both cameras look bad ......you're fired !

  • The 7D has the bigger HD sensor then the HMC. If you want a camera that's way more versatile go with the HMC150. Although its not as good as the 7D in low light and you have to tinker with the HMC to get all your colors etc right. 7D is idiot proof and is amazing. Does this video happen to mention the lens they used? I'm sure with different lenses would blow the HMC away...

  • @skateemerica134 I don't remember off-hand what focal length lens was used in this test, but I'm pretty sure it was a Canon L-Series Zoom.

  • I KNOW you can get better footage out of both cameras

  • wb?

  • ehh not a good test it was just basic stuff no focusing on different subjects?? common people this isnt defining which is better aand they r too different of cameras the 7d is mainly for picture and the ag hmc 150 is more of a video recorder camera

  • canon 7d is better!

  • how come the hmc150 has no DOF??

  • @AshKilamande

Because it shoot on a 1/3'' imager, thus reducing the shallowness of the depth of field. Plus the HMC150 has a 28mm equivalent wide-angle lens and is not very conducive for shallow DOF.

What they don't tell you is that the AMC150 has tons of built-in features like a Black Balance, White Balance, Wafeform monitor and Vectograph monitor that the 7D doesn't have. When you are shooting professional footage, you NEED those tools.

  • @lazlochatter And then there's the lack of audio inputs on the 7D, and the record time is only 10 minutes maximum. Completely unusable with out two cameras or more in a sit-down interview. The HMC150 for me.

  • @atomterrible

Yeah me too. I shoot wedding professionally and I couldn't imagine not having 3.5 hours of constant 1080p/24 footage. You stop shooting for even a minute to swap cards and you may miss something major. I love my HMC150.

  • u guys need to do this with a Canon XH A1S and a Panasonic AG-HVX200

  • mmmh! HMC150 has better pan! Now crank it at 120th, awesome..

Terrible distortion on the fast pan with 7D WB was better in some parts but the HMC has many diff features like the scenes and dynamics.

For a more film like look, the 7D

Your slowmotion footage has resampling echos.

  • I'm curious what you set your picture style settings on the 7D to prior to this test. I find the 7D records footage with much more latitude if you turn the contrast setting all the way down, among others.

  • Canon seamed to have a bit better contrast I think, but one thing that I definitely noticed is that the canon is using a cmos censor, take a look at the skew from the fast pans.

  • lol ya it looks the same not hmc 150 is better in low light...

  • @FilghiProductions The HMC150 is actually not better in low light than the 7D or even the T2i. This test wasn't an in depth test. Put a fast lens on the 7D and use a higher ISO and the difference in low light would become more apparent in favor of the 7D. The 7D also clearly wasn't setup for better latitude. The HMC150 displayed higher latitude even though the white balance was off on the girl. The 7D needs its picture style adjusted for more latitude. HCM150 pans better for sure.

  • @skital also 7d has moire problems...

  • Good tests thanks!
