You should try eating fresh whale. It tastes great. I love it. I eat it often. It is just like tender beef. It is very healthy and good for your balanced diet. It has nutrients, minerals, oils and vitamins that beef does not have.
There is nothing better than a fresh whale steak with potato mash, chilli sauce and chips. It's great in summer with a cold beer.
I recommend it.

And yes, I agree with you that fresh minke whale beef is tasty, healthy and really nice to eat. I love a good whale steak, it goes well with chips, salad and an ice cold beer.

I think the intelligence of whales is a moot point. The question should not be about how intelligent an animal is.
We should be asking; "How much can it suffer". The high intelligence and social life of a whale makes it's abillity to suffer very high, and that's what should be taken into account.
People care about reducing suffering and I applaud anyone who strives to achieve that goal.

The whalers are actually performing those tests.
They're doing those tests so they can use those rapports to eventually open up commercial whaling again on a large scale. The stomach contents are weighed so they can point out how much fish the whales are depriving of the fishermen.
It's of course a bogus claim, whales operate in a closed nutrition cycle. But that doesn't take away the fact that the research is even worse for whales then when the research would be 100% fake.

Cetaceans have brains larger then humans. What you really want to look at is the absolute mass of the frontal lobes. This correlates well, with our estimates of how smart the dumb animals (pigs, cows, deer, seals, dogs, chimpanzees, grasshoppers) are.Unfortunately for mans vanity, whales and dolphins have much larger frontal lobes than we do. That suggests the cetaceans are smarter than we are.

Whales are sea creatures, they dont have concept of harpoon, except harpooned one. Comparing deer and whale is not good logic, please read mu posts from 3,4 page back. However, elephants are similar (up to a point) to whales. I said before that logical thinking is not genetic but social skill in humans. You learn cause-effect relation. Being smarter then humans doesn't mean that whales would have to think abstractly, they could think in ways that are completly different than what we can relate to , i mean imagine using sonar to find where you are because you are weak-sighted.
