99% of drivers out there don't drag race, however, most people use the highway. The speed limit on the highway is usually somewhere around 60 MPH, so it's a practical measurement that almost anyone can understand. If you try to explain 1/4 drag times to your average person, they can't really picture or compare that. You can argue that 0-60 is 'stupid' or what have you, but it is the standard throughout the industry, alongside 1/4 mile times or not. enough said.
@CarbineGuy Nah man, 1/4 mile is absolutely a better gauge. In a 0-60 run RWD cars have a big disadvantage. Any reputable magazine will list a 1/4 mile time in addition to 0-60. Just think about it in terms of a race, do you want the car that get's to 60 MPH the fastest or the one that covers the most ground in the shortest amount of time?

0-60 by my stop watch is 5.4-5.8 sec... No mag has tested it faster than that.... only the IS-F does 0-60 in 4.6 sec which is about one full sec faster, which is about right for 100+ more hp in the IS-F vs IS350....... Even using the timer on the video and start/pause.. it comes to about 5.6 sec...
First that was a rolling start and doesn't not qualify as a zero to 60 run. ALSO the built in accelerometer is not a calibrated device up to the task of providing valid information.

@urbex2007 mileage in an IS350 hovers around 21 MPG with a good mix of highway and city driving. That's also assuming you have occasional lead foot syndrome. As far as insurance goes, it is far less expensive to insure than other cars of similar performance because it is classified as a 4 door luxury sedan.

Sadly the Vector FX2 is horribly inaccurate. I went to a drag-strip and used my vector on every single run, and no matter how I calibrated it, where I placed it, etc., it always stated I was faster than I really was. Friends tried it in their cars, and got the same results. Different drag strips. Same result. So, I'd take that reading with grain of salt. Just using my stop-watch against your video, you're probably closer to a 0-60 time of 5.5 seconds.

I dont know Ive had the opposite results, Ive been to the drag strip about 6-7 times on this car and the Vector has been a tenth slower than the track. I also tried this on a G35, C55 AMG, and MAzda 6. Same results.
Two weeks ago I ran 13.8 at the track and the Vector said I did 14.05....

Yes. Set the roll distance. Set the actual car weight (weighed the car at a truck stop) rather than calculating based upon the GVW + driver + gas. No matter what I did, it was never accurate. Maybe the one I had was defective. Glad yours works! Cheers!

It's annoying when magazines use it and it's annoying when people post it. Learn to launch.
While what you said about the Vector FX2 may be true, it's leagues more accurate than using a stop watch and timing a youtube video to determine 0 to 60. That's just..silly, let's not do that. 4.9 is consistent with numerous independent road tests for the IS350. Road and track cites 0 to 60 in 4.9 for the IS350, car and driver cites 0 to 60 in 5.1. This run may have been a 5.5, but all that suggests is that it was not an optimal run.
@addvali, what car do you drive? you don't even have to set the vehicle weight or anything. All it needs is properly secure it on your front windshield and auto-calibrate before the run, on a "flat" smooth surface. g-meters are based on measuring g-forces so any other vibrations you add to the car can throw off the reading. Try not to wheel spin too much, that will cause vibration and fuck up the reading too. Minimal wheel spin the more accurate it will be. FX2 and g-tech pro both are good.
I love the is350 .. amazing car .. incredible performance, incredible interior, super reliable.. I just wish it had a bit more of an exotic look to it...
and you have to keep in mind that the IS350's 1st and 2nd gear have a little bit stronger pull than the IS-F. I'm not kidding, this is serious. This is why I'm telling ya guys IS350 is one sick car... fast as fuck from a dig. If you'll be doing a lot of stop-and-go traffic you need the IS350. IS-F is good for 60 mph and up, like highway runs. IS-F is the highway demon you know what I mean?

@thingsdemystified, IS350 has more aggressive gear on 1st gear and almost on the 2nd. They will pull harder than the IS-F, trust the king. If you do enough digging at lexus forums you will find the same answer.
Oh that's Vector FX-2 from Beltronics. I think they are hard to find now.. jcwhitney *might* carry them. Or you could try asking juice14 to see if he could sell it to you hehe. If you can't find Vector FX series you could try getting a G-Tech Pro SS which is just as good in accuracy. BMW dudes use this quite a lot.

@CarbineGuy Nah man, 1/4 mile is absolutely a better gauge. In a 0-60 run RWD cars have a big disadvantage. Any reputable magazine will list a 1/4 mile time in addition to 0-60. Just think about it in terms of a race, do you want the car that get's to 60 MPH the fastest or the one that covers the most ground in the shortest amount of time?

if your doing 13.8 at the drags there is NO WAY in hell your car is doing 4.9.. cars that typically do 0-60/62 mph in 4-4.5 seconds usually do the quarter in mid-high 12s..
cars that tyically do 5-6 seconds usually do 13s-14s..the fact your running 13.8 means you are NO where near the 4.9 second mark! do your research of stock times for 0-60 and 0-1/4 mile and you will see there is a correlation

You can make more mistakes on the Z06 and easily lose time. 4.5 sec on a bone stock (not even intake mode) IS350 can be accomplished. 0-60 by my stop watch is 5.4-5.8 sec... No mag has tested it faster than that.... only the IS-F does 0-60 in 4.6 sec which is about one full sec faster, which is about right for 100+ more hp in the IS-F vs IS350....... Even using the timer on the video and start/pause.. it comes to about 5.6 sec...

@urbex2007 mileage in an IS350 hovers around 21 MPG with a good mix of highway and city driving. That's also assuming you have occasional lead foot syndrome. As far as insurance goes, it is far less expensive to insure than other cars of similar performance because it is classified as a 4 door luxury sedan.

Sadly the Vector FX2 is horribly inaccurate. I went to a drag-strip and used my vector on every single run, and no matter how I calibrated it, where I placed it, etc., it always stated I was faster than I really was. Friends tried it in their cars, and got the same results. Different drag strips. Same result. So, I'd take that reading with grain of salt. Just using my stop-watch against your video, you're probably closer to a 0-60 time of 5.5 seconds.

I dont know Ive had the opposite results, Ive been to the drag strip about 6-7 times on this car and the Vector has been a tenth slower than the track. I also tried this on a G35, C55 AMG, and MAzda 6. Same results.
Two weeks ago I ran 13.8 at the track and the Vector said I did 14.05....

Yes. Set the roll distance. Set the actual car weight (weighed the car at a truck stop) rather than calculating based upon the GVW + driver + gas. No matter what I did, it was never accurate. Maybe the one I had was defective. Glad yours works! Cheers!

While what you said about the Vector FX2 may be true, it's leagues more accurate than using a stop watch and timing a youtube video to determine 0 to 60. That's just..silly, let's not do that. 4.9 is consistent with numerous independent road tests for the IS350. Road and track cites 0 to 60 in 4.9 for the IS350, car and driver cites 0 to 60 in 5.1. This run may have been a 5.5, but all that suggests is that it was not an optimal run.

@addvali, what car do you drive? you don't even have to set the vehicle weight or anything. All it needs is properly secure it on your front windshield and auto-calibrate before the run, on a "flat" smooth surface. g-meters are based on measuring g-forces so any other vibrations you add to the car can throw off the reading. Try not to wheel spin too much, that will cause vibration and fuck up the reading too. Minimal wheel spin the more accurate it will be. FX2 and g-tech pro both are good.

and you have to keep in mind that the IS350's 1st and 2nd gear have a little bit stronger pull than the IS-F. I'm not kidding, this is serious. This is why I'm telling ya guys IS350 is one sick car... fast as fuck from a dig. If you'll be doing a lot of stop-and-go traffic you need the IS350. If you can't find Vector FX series you could try getting a G-Tech Pro SS which is just as good in accuracy. BMW dudes use this quite a lot.

Did you know that Lexus has its own plants and separated from Toyota? IS350 is built in Tahara (I forgot the other location) in Japan. They don't build Toyota cars there you stupid bitch (4MATICBENzWhore). They don't even share same platform. The drivetrains are different. Things like materials and craftsmanship is totally different. The QC is nothing like Toyota. Toyota still has much better reliability than BMWs but not in the same level as Lexus, you stupid whore.

I will repeat it again. These are two different cars appealing to different buyers. When you speak of daily driving, you forget again that times of 0-60 have been logged as low as 4.5 in the IS350. When during your commute (that is if you have a job) do you run 1/4 miles and exceed speeds of 100 mph, where the Twin Turbo six pulls away? You really have no central argument. However i must admit that you do posses correct facts, which most people lack.

These cars appeal to the same buyers. Both cars are entry level luxury sedans, sport sedans, posses around 300-ish hp, have similar technical specs in almost ALL respective catagories, have similar features, and cost around the same. Most people cross shop these two cars often. It's no surprise we all see more 3-series' on the roads.

They do not cost the same you idiot. nicely loaded is350 runs a little over 43k. 335i loaded goes over 50k which is way overpriced. It's a unreliable POS and is so expensive. You would have to be pretty fucking stupid to buy a 335i.

i wouldnt bet money on that. 335i is lighter, has alot more torque (which stretches across almost ALL of the rev-band), and is available with the stick. not to mention, every auto publication ive read including the 3-series and IS in a comaprison has ALWAYS gotten a quicker time in the 335i.

335i is not lighter, it's heavier than is350. is350 is in the 35xx range. 335i is at 3600+ lbs, you dumb ass. extra torque from 1500~ 5000 rpm doesn't mean shit when it's got much taller gearing. it *will* slow you down. is350 on the other hand is exact opposite. this is why we often see is350 beating the 335i from a dig. and Automatic is the way to go for straight line acceleration. humans can never shift as fast as automatic you stupid.. are you 13? you have low IQ.

A 335i outdrags this ricer in EVERY acceleration run. Go read a comparison test on Car and Driver for Christ's sake. there about 4 different comapros involving both cars. the 3359i will beat in in 0-60, 5-60 rolling start, 1/4 mile, and 1/4 mile trap speed. And your comment about the 335i's torque made me laugh. Yeah bc having a lot of torque stretched across the rev band Hampers the acceleration? wtf goes through your head?

Dont give me shit about C/D bias. People have been shouting bias at C/D for BMWs and Honda's for decades now bc they just cant handle the fact that some cars are just unbeatable. Okay, so i suppose you think Motortrend, Edmunds, Road and Track, and Motorweek are also biased for hailing the 3-series as the benchmarrk sport sedan. Stop living in illusion. Read the test numbers and what editors have to say about the 3-series in all it's reviews. You act as if every test editor in this world is on BMW's payroll. We both know which is the better all-around car. I'll give the nod to Lexus for reliability and quality but everything else goes to the 3-series. Tirade is over.

Why do you say that? I'll admit other brands like Lexus, Infiniti, Cadillac, etc. offer very compelling and worthy alternatives to a BMW or Benz. I never said German brands as a whole are superior.
But in the case of BMW 335i vs. Lexus IS350, yes the Germans take the win in this segment. Sorry...

Win? I'm not saying the IS350 is better than the BMW, but it doesn't deserve to be considered inferior. A fully loaded IS350 runs about $10,000 less than an optioned 335. And for what? A minuscule torque advantage that comes into play north of 100mph? A stiffer, race inspired suspension that gets used when during your commute? Please, this is a draw of two quality sports sedans.

I didn't hear, I see them break down on the streets every other day..even the guy who works near my office is keep getting problems with his 335i. He had to drop it in at the shop and got himself a loaner. Toyota build quality went down too, but Lexus still maintains quality and reliability. You're the one idiot, girl. First, dont get me started on Toyota. Lexus are Toyota and i cant even tell you how many times my brother brings his Toyota in for recalls. These cars are not problem-free. Second, yes they are BMW fans but also BMW OWNERS. Sure there are plenty of small issues, but nothing severe. And third, how do you know what i "sound" like? Toyota is the parent company of Lexus so of course they are the same family. But it doesn't mean all Toyota and Lexus cars are built the same way. Toyota as of late hasn't been good in terms of reliability. I'm not defending Toyota you stupid. We're talking about Lexus, IS350 in particular you stupid... and is no way the same as Toyota in terms of overall mechanical design and build quality as well the quality of the parts used.
