The team claimed the site was hacked and that they were developing the game in secret. You can however, still find some music samples and the teaser on YouTube; if you search the user/channel "MetroidEngine", you can see tests for the engine.
@person701 well, that game started development in 2006 i think. its dissapointing to hear "in secret" hell, for all we know it got cancled, ran out of money or something. but i think the biggest dissapointment, is how nintendo now doesnt realize just how many people still play the old metroids and pc. seeing a pc metroid worth anything is something very exciting. its been a very long time.

@person701 i know about the metroid 2 remake. its almost done, and im pretty sure im getting it. i have seen many metroid hacks. but im not into hacks, its like playing the same game, some different things. which does sound like every new metroid game, but a complete overhall with added features and with actual development teams i find much more intersting. when people hack they usually switch the sprites to look stupid or something.

i love the metroid games but this seems like an insult to all metroid fans!! you dont lose your abilities, fight the queen or see ridley, i understand that its probably still being worked on but all that is at the beginning!!1 its what gets you captivated to play more!!
While I definitely respect the work that's been put into this... what exactly is the point? I mean, there's no way in Hell this will be better than the original Prime if it's ever completed. Usually you'd think someone would make a 3D remake of a 2D game, not vice cersa.
three things I really wanted to see as I watched this video were the Parasite Queen Fight, Ridley and Samus losing her items and out of pure unfortuneness they are the three main things not featured in this demo
Creation of this is going ok as it seems but the main problem you should focus on is the demo part of the game if your going to release a demo of it you should have all the kinks worked out not screw-ups every part of the game. I am a metroid fan and i encurage you to keep working on it just need to be fixed 100% of the game. almost all games have that one problem that everyone hates i believe you should start the new trend of it being fully fixed
I have to say dude, its an impressive feat, but I have to agree with gmoney's comments. I think you made too much an effort to preserve elements that don't make as much sense in a side scrolling platformer. It's seriously a bit tricky converting from First Person to Side Scroller and I applaud your work. It just needs to be trimmed down *A LOT*. Its far too robust now.

Check out the new game Metroid Other M, it's pretty 2-D gameplay wise, but completly awesome graphics wise. I have to say the scanning segments suck, but the MAIN gameplay is fun. I do wish you could fire missiles OUT of FPS mode though, by holding the inored - and + keys or something, and use them to cycle between missles super missiles and regular gun, much like the SELECT button on Super Metroid and Metroid Zero Mission. It is a little hard to believe that Nintendo would overlook that option.
I just FU***** hate the music... No offence, but I don't like remixes that's all... :) If you have put the original thems then it would have been different...

I agree entirely with you. The very first metroid I ever played was Super, I am now 21 and have the original SNES Super Metroid on my computer through an emulator. I play it hours upon hours even now. Don't get me wrong, I like Other M and Prime but it started to feel a bit out of line when Prime 2 and 3 and Hunters came out. I really do wish they could remake the classics and keep to 2D format on them for the new DS or something.
@MrRyanTube100 - Metroid was NEVER meant for 3D, as far as I'm concerned. This game looks infinitely more playable and interesting to me than Metroid Prime ever did.
It seems to be run off the Super Metroid game engine, with the lag time when going in doors and pausing anyway. Would be funny if this would have been finished tho.
@CriticsConfession Metroid Prime takes place after the original metroid, throughout the game you clues leading to that it is after then finally you find out when you are in Phendrana and the stellar cartography shows you are only a planet away from zebes

@dbzelda123 I put it in there. It was to fill in the audio because I couldn't get cam studio to record audio back then. If you want to hear the audio, check the reuploaded vid on my page.
A nice idea, but you can't really make Prime into a 2-D game, Prime is a 3-D game and trying to recreate that in 2-D is impossible, it would be like trying to remake Super Metroid into a 3-D game, it just wouldn't work.
@person701 It takes place in between Super and Fusion. And that somewhat makes no sense, because it technically explained that there was no time in between those two games anyways. I assume (according to the trailer) that it starts you off at the Mother Brain fight, cause you see her killing the "super" Metroid in the trailer.
@CriticsConfession Also remember that we see a much younger Samus and that even if there isn't a huge time frame between Metroid 3 and 4 that Other M could consist of Samus reflecting upon her past.
@KingDiamondHead I have to disagree to that. Any game no matter what dimension is if you put the effort, thinking, etc... Then it can come up as good as the original... You will think that it is going to be bad, but just wait untill you play it...
@KingDiamondHead It IS possible, not on a game, but MAYBE felt(or other fabric) pillows, for a 3d Super Metroid. Just look up some game sprites and it's scenery, use the fabric you want and... That is how I made a Ridley doll from Super Metroid.
@KingDiamondHead I don't see why everyone says Prime in 2D won't work. Metroid started out in 2D. If Nintendo could envision it with different spatial properties, so can we!

but just for the commercial hype in Egoshooters, everbody wants action blood and violence, most of people not all...and so they did invent a new Metroid because of the 3D setting. Its kind a lame because there so much egoshooters there out there... (sorry for bad gramma iam german)
Sounds like you didn't even bother to play the game for very long. It's not even remotely like a standard FPS. Calling it an FPS or "Egoshooter" for that matter is practically an insult to the Prime series (especially Prime 1 for that matter). It's more like a First-Person Adventure.
The entire ideal behind the Prime series isn't solely "shoot stuff until it dies". There's quite a lot of puzzles, places to explore, and backtracking. The progression isn't shallow and requires you to observe your surroundings rather than kill everything until you get to the next area. It's not like an FPS at all. You clearly haven't played it that much.
I just like the grafiks theres is no doubt and i respect the fanbase behind the prime series but like i said i cant deal with this setting and stuff...end!
The music is really obnoxious - doesn't fit the video in the slightest - was forced to mute it. Also - not sure if that's something to do with the capture framerate, but Samus animation looks particularly choppy.
Yeah - I know this problem with sound capture - had to deal with it on several occasions. Kind of sucks that this isn't gonna see the light of day - I am johnsing for some metroid goodness. I guess AM2R is my last shining hope for that fix.
I enjoyed Prime, but this looks like it had so much potential to be awesome. Too bad the project is in neverland and will never be finished. Other M had better be a decent sidescroller for the DS or something.
Other M is for the Wii, and from the trailer, it isn't a sidescroller. It's more like 3rd person, but you can go into 1st person when you want. I don't really know though, if you're set on a path to go on (but probably not).
I figured that out after I searched for more information yesterday. So...Yeah...The game still appeals. Just not as much as I'd like. Too bad this is in Developer Hell.

the thing that kills this for me is the music. did you put it in here or is it in this game? i loved the subtle and eery music in all the official games :P

A nice idea, but you can't really make Prime into a 2-D game, Prime is a 3-D game and trying to recreate that in 2-D is impossible, it would be like trying to remake Super Metroid into a 3-D game, it just wouldn't work.

@person701 It takes place in between Super and Fusion. And that somewhat makes no sense, because it technically explained that there was no time in between those two games anyways. I assume (according to the trailer) that it starts you off at the Mother Brain fight, cause you see her killing the "super" Metroid in the trailer.

@KingDiamondHead I have to disagree to that. Any game no matter what dimension is if you put the effort, thinking, etc... Then it can come up as good as the original... You will think that it is going to be bad, but just wait untill you play it...

@KingDiamondHead It IS possible, not on a game, but MAYBE felt(or other fabric) pillows, for a 3d Super Metroid. Just look up some game sprites and it's scenery, use the fabric you want and... That is how I made a Ridley doll from Super Metroid.

He shoulda made it more similar to the 2d metroid games, get rid of the scanner, and unnecesary metroid prime things. Just have the main area and boss etc. like metroid prime.

I dont give a shit about Metroid in crappy 3d and Hardcore Killer Egoshooter Style...
So this Game would be nice, because there are many Castlevania Titles in 2D that are awsome too, but no good old Metroid since Metroid Zero Mission...
And beside this fakt i havent seen a complete finished Metroid wich is fanbased or a remake and i dont want to play that 3D Garbage just infakt to get the story Behind Metroid... that sucks...!!!

i played it at a friends place he has all titles, but for me it doesnt work on 3D... and yeah i know i was overdo it to that...
but just for the commercial hype in Egoshooters, everbody wants action blood and violence, most of people not all...and so they did invent a new Metroid because of the 3D setting. Its kind a lame because there so much egoshooters there out there... (sorry for bad gramma iam german)

Sounds like you didn't even bother to play the game for very long. It's not even remotely like a standard FPS. Calling it an FPS or "Egoshooter" for that matter is practically an insult to the Prime series (especially Prime 1 for that matter). It's more like a First-Person Adventure.

The entire ideal behind the Prime series isn't solely "shoot stuff until it dies". There's quite a lot of puzzles, places to explore, and backtracking. The progression isn't shallow and requires you to observe your surroundings rather than kill everything until you get to the next area. It's not like an FPS at all. You clearly haven't played it that much.

The music is really obnoxious - doesn't fit the video in the slightest - was forced to mute it. Also - not sure if that's something to do with the capture framerate, but Samus animation looks particularly choppy.

Yeah - I know this problem with sound capture - had to deal with it on several occasions. Kind of sucks that this isn't gonna see the light of day - I am johnsing for some metroid goodness. I guess AM2R is my last shining hope for that fix.

I feel I would enjoy this more than the actual Prime.
Super Metroid (and any of the 2d metroids) are pretty much my favorite games. It's unfortunate that I didn't enjoy the Prime series very well.
I just didn't feel very Metroidish while playing it.
I have high hopes for Other M though! Maybe it'll revive that dark platformer feeling that I oh so love.

I enjoyed Prime, but this looks like it had so much potential to be awesome. Too bad the project is in neverland and will never be finished. Other M had better be a decent sidescroller for the DS or something.

Other M is for the Wii, and from the trailer, it isn't a sidescroller. It's more like 3rd person, but you can go into 1st person when you want. I don't really know though, if you're set on a path to go on (but probably not).

The game itself, no. But, iirc, when you plug a controler into your computer, you can map keys on the keyboard to buttons on your controler.
